Is Lidge worth anything right now? He's been clogging up a DL spot for me all season and I'm absolutely desperate for saves. Drafted Lidge, Franklin, Broxton, and Rodney (thought what the hell, it was late in the draft) and have managed only 12 saves before every one of these imploded or got hurt. Only replacement I was able to end up with was Boggs who lost the job after a single blown save after getting me three of them. After Padilla went down I drafted a bunch of Dodger relievers only to get a couple of blown saves and got my ratios inflated.

Madson has a pretty good grip on that job for the time being, but given your situation, you might still be better off hanging on to Lidge and hoping for the best.

Just read in the Café closer thread that if KRod gets traded before the deadline, which is likely, Isringhausen will move into the closer role.

Phillies are looking for bullpen help. Could trade for Heath Bell, which would likely mean Mike Adams steps into closer role for Padres.

Already picked him up... I think this is likely to happen. If fact the only question I have is will Izzy be traded with K-Rod.

I have no reason to doubt you guys in saying this will happen, I just wonder what the Mets' line of thinking is with that decision. Izzy is a last leg kind of guy, and the Mets are going nowhere this season. If they trade K-Rod, basically conceding they have no need for a veteran closer, shouldn't they be looking at other arms in the organization for some potential 9th inning work? You know, evaluating the make up of some of the guys they can use in the long term, etc..

Maybe they bring a young guy up to pitch the 8th. But I honestly don't know much about what kind of relief arms the Mets have in the minors.

Just grabbed both, to be safe. Had some baggage to dump and we don't play this week, so I can afford to see how it shakes out.

Start hiding Isringhausen.
I'm going with Parnell.
Agreed...I think Parnell is the correct play here. Better skills, unlikely to be traded this year and the type of guy the Mets can use in 9th innings for the foreseeable future.
Isringhausen is having a good year, they want to increase his trade value and he's closed before. Short term I'd be surprised if it wasn't him, but good idea to pick up both if you need saves. Could be a mess though, we'll see.

Excellent points...Placing my bet on Parnell, but the best bet is probably to add both if you've got the room.

Don't be surprised if Pedro Beato gets a shot at closing too. For what it's worth, I'm a Mets fan.

I clearly don't watch the Mets much... saw the references to Isringhausen and thought it was a joke and the follow-up would be Roger McDowell.

Quade says Marshall could get some looks in the 9th.

link
Marmol comes in up 2-0, allows an earned run and gets yanked. Was lucky Hanley got caught going for second. Marshall comes in and cleans it up for the save. Looks like we might have something here.
Total meltdown by Marmol.Guy just can't throw strikes right now. He's relying heavily on his slider.....it's not a strike unless they swing at it.

So who is the closer in Philly?

Madson, Lidge, Bastardo, or do they trade for Heath Bell? I'm hearing rumors!

I have Bastardo because Madson is on my DL and Lidge is abvailble on the wire.

The Phillies are too rich in the bullpen right now and they just don't have a reason to rock the boat. I think they will stick with Bastardo until he loses his edge. I think Lidge is several weeks away from being as effective as he was in 2010.

For those of you holding out hope...from yahoo:

RHP David Aardsma's hopes to play with the Mariners this season are over. He will undergo Tommy John-style ligament replacement surgery in his right elbow in the next week or so. He began the year having hip surgery in January, then made five injury rehab appearances at Triple-A after recovering before the arm injury cropped up.

(Yahoo! Sports)

Ken Rosenthal reporting that the Padres traded Mike Adams to the Rangers, not Heath Bell. Good news for Bell owners if it's true.

Parnell has been really bad lately and Izzy has been lights out.Gotta think Izzy is the guy the rest of the year unless he gets dealt in a waiver trade.
