Cold weather effect on passing games... (1 Viewer)

Does anyone have any insight or links to support the positive or negative effect of below freezing conditions on a teams pass offense?

I remember in the snow last year Brady torched TENN but usually in slick conditions the reciever has the advantage

Anyone have any thoughts as this might influence lineup decisions to get into the playoffs

I don't think cold weather itself hurts passing games, or even a little snow (except for maybe a dome team having to play outside in them). Wind is the biggest ##### when it comes to slowing down passing games.

From the subscriber area regarding the Jets/Pats game (hope its ok to post): "In sub-freezing conditions, the football gets hard and slick, which can cause ball handling issues in all phases of the game. Also, this venue is known for swirling and unpredictable winds at this time of year - owners of Jets and Patriots will want to check a shorter-term forecast before setting their lineups this week"

 This. A few years back, in FF playoff weeks, Brady and Moss were playing in 35+ MPH winds and it was raining/sleeting/icing sideways. That didn't go well for either passing offense that day. It's the wind, not the cold.

Thats the year Brady threw 50 TD passes- I had him and got hosed week 15 with a first rd bye- having deja vu

Early weather forecasts for this game are upper 20's, with wind about 13 mph. At what point do we think wind (as in how strong does it have to be) affects this game?

you know the weather report for week 15 already? Calm down people, weathermen are not good enough to predict Monday nights weather on Thursday.

Yep. Guy in my league had him and Moss - started both against me. I had Jamal Lewis who also was playing in snow. Brady and Moss did squat. Jamal Lewis rushed for about 150+ and a TD. A week later....CHAMPIONSHIP!

I actually think this sets up perfectly for the Pats. Their passing game isn't a down the field game plan, it is short passes. I don't think the weather affects their passing game at all - much different than when Moss was there.

I'm interested in seeing how Michael Vick performs tonight. He hasn't won a regular season game in weather under 40 degrees. We shall see.
