Cole Hamels (1 Viewer)

Michael Brown

Hamels was interviewed on FAN earlier this afternoon, and was asked whether he thought the Mets were choke artists. He said something along the lines of agreeing with it, that three years ago they smoked everybody but now they were. So the interviewer repeats the questions and asks, "So are you saying the Mets are choke artists?"

Hamels: "Yeah, yeah...For the past two years, they've been choke artists."

I'm not a Met fan, but this is really becoming one of the better rivalries going.

First, they ARE choke artists. And I am a huge Mets fan.

That said, Id rather be a fan of the choke artists in the greatest City in the world than be a part of the worst fan base in the universe.

Good - let them talk - they shoud they are the champs.

I hope every player on the Mets hears it loud and clear.

Almost wish the Mets opened the season in Philly when introduce the World Champion banners.

It should piss them off. Hopeully it will.

I've had this argument with plenty of Phillies fans that I live with. Some people said that "a classy player would've skated around the question and not have said much". Others said "Cole was just being honest". Personally, I think the Phils should talk all they want - they had a tremendous 2008 season. I just hope the bulletin board material sparks a fire...sound familiar, Carlos Beltran?

Cant argue with the little wussy pretty boy
That's NLCS and World Series MVP wussy pretty boy to you.And Hamels just said what everyone, even the Mets players themselves, already knew. Big whoop. If you need bulletin board material to play better, whatever.

Worst fan base?! Please explain, and don't bring up Santa Claus, that's old and tired and you probably don't know the whole story anyway.

You are right, no need to bring up all the actually reasons that would do the explaining. So, Ill just leave it at common knowledge and accepted fact.

I've lived in Philly for the past 5 years. Moved from Boston. Philly has a great fan base. Please name 5 "fan bases" in the country that are better than Philly.

I think it would be different if he came out and said it on his own. The way it was explained, he was asked the question directly twice. His first response seemed like an attempt to not offend the Mets and their fans. When he was pressed again, he said the obvious.

What was he supposed to say?

Question: "Cole, are the Mets choke artists?"Hamels: "Nah, they beat up on everyone a few years ago but we got their number the last two."Question: "So would you say the last two years that the Mets have been choke artists?"Hamels: "No, I just think we Phillies came together as a team. We just played better than we had the seasons before it. I don't think it's anything they did wrong but more what we did right."Obviously that'd be bland and boring and not entirely accurate, but it would be the typical canned baseball player response. I'm glad he said what he truly felt -- shows a little bit of swagger, which you need as an ace of a World Series winner. Now I'm waiting to hear the Met response. I don't know, I just like stuff like this. Too many teams are all buddy-buddy with each other. I much prefer when guys on teams hate one another. (See: Posada vs. Pedro)

:goodposting: So all you have is the Santa story. Shocking. That story is actually counterproductive to your foolish statement. Here's a little history lesson for ya... 54,000 people showed up that day in a snowstorm with 30 mph winds to watch a team that was 2-11. (0-11 to start) Teams can't even sell out a domed playoff game these days, yet we show up in force to watch a wretched 2-11 team in a blizzard. Horrible fan base for sure.

Man, Philly fans are more easy to rile up than Yanks fans. You guys are champs. enjoy it. Plus, you aren't changing anyone's mind with your non-refutation of the Santa incident. So enjoy the victory and take pride in being the worst fans in the world.

So now 54,000 fans who have already PAID for their tickets show up at the stadium because they're too cheap to miss a game that's already paid for... They take out their frustration with the miserable weather and their 2-11 team by pelting poor Santa with snow balls, who they believe is actually Clubber Lang in disguise.Years later they redeem themselves by booing Donovan McNabb at the NFL Draft. Chunky discontinues their extra-chunky "steak & cheese" soup from the Philly market.

Doesn't the fact that he's a wussy pretty boy only add insult to injury that he called your team a bunch of choke-artists?

I hope everytime Hammels strikes out a Met this year he looks directly into their dugout and says the following:

"WHAT"S MY NAME, CHOKERS. I'M THE WUSSY PRETTY BOY THAT JUST STRUCK YOU OUT!!"
