Colts Defense (1 Viewer)

Every year a bad defense shines for the first 2 weeks. Are the Colts for real or are they a two week pretender. Was it injuries that made them so bad last year before the playoffs??

they are younger, bigger, faster, and more physical than last year:

Changes

Cato June LB, out

Freddy Keiaho LB, in

Keiaho is more athletic, faster, and a bigger hitter than June. June played safety at Michigan, Keiaho is a trained linebacker.

Nick Harper CB, out

Kelvin Hayden CB, in

Harper played sparingly in the last 2 post-seasons, and was getting on in age. Hayden, who was a 2nd round pick 2 years ago, replaced him in the playoffs and the super bowl, returning the game sealing INT vs. chicago for a TD in super bowl XLI

Jason David CB , out

Marlin Jackson CB, in

Jackson was a 1st round pick 2 years ago, they had been planning on this upgrade. If you don't believe me, go watch tape of of the colts-saints game and check on #42 on the Saints...yes, THAT was one of the KEY defensive losses of the Colts.

Lost Booger McFarland...last time I checked Booger didn't help them with thye run last year. I'm sort of "nowhere to go but up" when you give up 173 yards per game. Could you get "worse" at nose tackle.

Lastly, Bob Sanders. Not only is HE a playmaker, he makes others playmakers. When you feel you can risk more because a guy like Sanders has your back, you do..and more confidently.

This same defense played exceptionally well against 1st team offenses this preseason, and obviously last post-season.

Hey, I'm a homer, but I picked them up before the Saints game, I think they'll suprise.

Obviously impossible to say and I think Saints were off their game this past week, but Colts played much better D than I expected this year, least of all this game, so who knows. Sanders definitely is key, and losing David and June was addition by subtraction, but losing Harper sucked and not a believer in that DL......but who knows. But they keep this up and Dungy deserves some kind of award, SB or not.

desperate teams that fall behind to Peyton are forced to air it out - make stupid turnovers - lead to lots of defensive points!

I think there's a lot to be said for this. Indy defense was $$$ the year Manning hooked up for 49 TDs. Virtually every 2nd half was the DLine pinning their ears back and the secondary ballhawking. Far better for DT scoring than a heavy dose of running plays. Now that said, everyone's gameplan against Indy will be to utilize a heavy dose of running plays to shorten the game and keep PM off the field.Generally, that strategy seems to be more effective when Indy's on the road on grass than when they're in the RCA dome.Indy DT at home: great playIndy DT on the road: not enough info at this time.

NFL Defense- they'll be just OK.

Fantasy Football Defense- pretty good.

The points they put up on Offense will force teams to air it out & will lead to lots of turnovers.

As other posters have said, Indy D at home looks like a solid play. For weeks when they are on the road, look for a better matchup.

I guess I've been more fortunate than you to not stumble on more. I don't plan on torturing myself by reading through all of his idiotic recent posts.

I've read that Keiaho hurt his elbow and will be a GTD. Just an FYI.

It was in the Indy Star this morning.

For the record, as a Colts homer, I think the DBs are MUCH better this year at supporting the run. They are also better at the cover-2 and cover 3 pass coverage.

The LBs slightly better since Gardner is gone and June was a running game liability.

D-Line, the jury is still out.

Overall a slight upgrade at skill, moderate upgrade at speed, and moderate upgrade at technique.

Much better with home crowd and typically playing with a lead at home. This increases the advantage of Mathis and Freeney.

Top 12-15 is where I'd put the D.

Hope this helps.
