Colts Defense (1 Viewer)

What are the thoughts on the Colts D this year? Better or worse than last year? They seem to have a good starting schedule for a fantasy defense, with games against Chi, Min, Bal, and Hou. Looks up and down after that. Any chance they lead the league in PA again?

What is better than last year - depth at DE, especially the pass rush.

What is shakier than last year - LB depth - especially early in the season (with injuries to SSLB Hagler and rookie Wheeler), and DTs (especially if they play Raheem Brock at DE on rushing downs).

Brutal schedule, tougher competition, better teams in their division now..

not guaranteed to go 12-4 anymore..

this team might struggle to get to 10-6 in 2008.

Depends a lot on your scoring system.

A team like Indy that forces other teams to throw a lot and generally press to keep up on the scoreboard is great if your scoring system favors sacks and turnovers. The Colts D ought to rack up a lot of both.

It's not so hot if your scoring system favors points and yards allowed. The Colts D could cough up a lot of both.

If your scoring evenly weights all of those, then the Colts D is midpack.

Are these guys going to be bad all year or can they turn it around and be a respectable DEF? When does Sanders come back? TIA.

It looks bad now - but I have 2 small rays of hope. One is Sanders will be back in by likely either the Titans or Pats game. Two - SSLB Ty Hagler will be back for the GB game (which is the game after next). Hagler isn't great by any stretch, but at least he won't overrun every play like Clint Sessions currently does, which is killing their run D right now.

But, if the two small rays of hope turns out to make a big difference - the Colts still won't be a decent fantasy D until the offense gets out of its funk. The Colts D is about working with a lead, not slugging it out in a time of possession battle.
