Colts have gone from Best to Worst in 5 years (1 Viewer)

In the 2007 draft, the Colts won the Super Bowl and with it got the last pick in each round of the NFL draft. Now they have the 1st overall pick just 5 years later. Thinking about this I'm wondering when the last time a team has gone from the top to the bottom in the NFL so fast. Has to be a long long time, no?

Can't find a team falling to #1 overall pick but...

Packers went from World Champ in 1944 to 2-10 in Curly Lambeau's last season.

Giants went from Super Bowl champs in 1990 to 5-11 under Dan Reeves in 1995.

The Packers nearly got the honor, but the New York Bulldogs (1-10-1) prevented that.-QG

While the draft was done differently, the Lions have done the 1st to worst thing. Actually they pulled a neater trick in the 50s.

1952 Won Championship

1953 Won Championship

1954 Lost In Championship Game

1955 Worst Record in the League

1956 Finished 2nd in the conference by 1/2 game

1957 Won Championship

The Bucs won in '02 and then had a losing record the next year. The 2nd season after their championship they went 5-11 and drew the #5 pick that was used on Caddy.

True - but a number of teams have done that. The first to worst rapidly is really what I'm looking for. The Lions of the 50s make the grade. Not sure if any other team do though.-QG

The closest would be the 91 Skins who went 14-2. Two seasons later they were 4-12 (but not the worst record) followed by 3-13 the next year (but still not the worst record). In both of those seasons they were a game away from having the worst record in the league.

The Baltimore Colts won a Super Bowl in the 1970-71 season and by 1974 finished with a 2-12 record which was tied with the Giants for the worst overall record although they somehow ended up with the 3rd overall pick in the following draft.

You'd have thought Ray Handley's Giants belonged in this thread. I imagine there will never be a group of fans so upset about a .500 record.
