Colts vs Jags (1 Viewer)

If you're the colts, do you tank this game to get Luck?

You can point to player/organizational pride as a reason not to. You just beat the Titans and Texans--may not have had some guys, but you didn't have Peyton. 3 Straight wins all against divisional foes--that's got to be a lot of confidence going into next year expecting Peyton back. But really, why not just lay down to get the top draft pick---tell yourselves you could have won that game. You get nothing to show for winning. The Colts 10 years from now will have who on the current roster? But Luck or whatever you get for the pick will still be there.

If you're the Jags do you lay down to keep Luck out of the divison? Again, you've got the player pride business to worry about, MoJo surely wants to end on a good note. Maybe get one last real look at Gabbert this year, try to get his confidence up going into next year. But, do you want to "win" and give the Colts the top pick in the draft, knowing Peyton is heading back next year?? Is it unethical/collusional to tank this game if you're the Jags?

Discuss?

The Rams won't select Luck even if they get the #1 pick. They need a WR and RB far more than they need a QB.

perhaps.

I don't see either team laying down - people were saying that all last month until the Colts won two straight.

They would probably be smart to take Luck and flip Bradford for picks or whatever.
don't think they'd get much for Bradford after this last year . . .Bradford was a #1 pick himself and he had an injury ravaged season - I think they have to keep him and grab Richardson or Blackmon .

They would get something decent for him. He's much better than Kolb and teams overpay for QBs every year. I'm sure someone would take him and would send high round pick(s) in return--especially with Barkley returning the school. Personally, I think passing on Luck (who doesn't have the question marks Bradford had out of college...injuries, gimmicky spread offense) and taking a WR or RB that high would be a myopic move. But if they were to take one of those guys (or Khalil) they should be able to pick up quite a bit in return for the #1 pick. If they play their cards right, they could end up with a very good draft one way or the other.

good points - it will make for a good spring.

I would say there is about a 0% chance that either teams players would try to lose. It is absolutely crazy to think that the Jags would roll over to keep a college kid out of their division, IMO. I would guess their egos are far too large to say that a college player scares them. I could be wrong but that is my opinion.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bill Polian forced Caldwell to start a non QB at quarterback.

No disagreement on that. I definitely think the front office would not mind throwing it, but no way the players or coach would.

To this day, I've never rooted for the Jags to lose and I've never rooted for the Colts to win. But there is a large part of me that wants both to happen Sunday.

Most likely true, but also no way that Luck will get past the #1 pick barring for something completely unforeseen happening. Somebody would offer the Rams a boatload to trade down.

So how do you envision this working? Do the Colts just make Jim Caldwell and the coordinators the Colts coaches for life because they wouldn't be able to ever fire them without the risk they'll reveal they were fixing NFL games? If there is one thing that would get a death sentence from the NFL, and probably make them take the team away from Irsay if he was in on it, it would be destroying the public confidence that NFL games are not fixed.

This is a huge game for the Browns. If the Colts win and the Rams get the #1 pick, trade talk will heat up between the Rams and Browns as the Browns want Luck, and have that extra first rounder to add to a package to trade from when they traded down a year ago.

Sorry.

I was attempting to generate a discussion about something I found fairly interesting.

It's always annoying when people do the whole "Anyone who would ask this question clearly doesn't know anything about playing..." thing. Get real, it's an attempt to generate discussion, and it isn't a matter of the players not tackling or just lobbing interceptions to the other team.

ESPN now has a piece up asking the same question on the Colts end.

NO, as players you don't just lay down and take it. But, a number of the fans have voiced their opinions they'd rather see the teams sit the starters to lose. The Colts brass has said to keep on winning.

But, if you're running a team, do you say hey guys, let's bench everyone and get that top pick? You can say the Rams won't take Luck, but can you really see Luck going #2 or later? Do you think the Colts go into trade talks to get him?

If these two teams were trying to throw a game, how would we know?
8 safeties in the first quarter.Btw, I don't think either team lays down. I do think that Luck will be the #1 pick regardless. Kinda want the Rams to get the pick as there's more room for intrigue there. If the Browns get the #3 or #4 pick it'll be interesting to see if they make a big play.-QG

We would know by the Jaguars sitting out MJD to rest him for 2012, the Colts starting the guy Orlovsky replaced to get another look at him for the future.

Considering the Jags have placed about 30 guys on IR and are playing guys at DB they just signed off the street, I'm not sure they need to lay down.

If the Colts want it, the recvrs will be open.

Absolutely, the players and coaches don't have a monetary interest in the future of the organization and don't even know if they'll be with the team next year.

Stephen Jackson and Brandon Loyd are awful. They are stacked on Defense and O line so ... Yes this is spot on.
The miles are adding up on Jackson, but yeah they probably need offensive line help more than anything. That means they'll almost definitely trade down since they could still get a top lineman at the 4th spot or so.

You mean Painter? That's how they got here.

The Colts players will play hard and will play for Manning to be their QB next year.

Plus, they've actually been good under Orlovsky.

The Jags will just play their usual game as the Jags, which is poor.

The Colts will win.
