Comeback player of the year award nominations (1 Viewer)

It's Moss unless you discount him because he wasn't "coming back" from injury, but from a lousy attitude.

No denying he blew donkey in '06.

Hard to give it to Moss since he was the cause of his own demise. Yah yah I know...it was Oakland. Just doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the award. Supposed to be coming back from adversity, not getting thrust into the best possible situation ever and deciding to not take the year off. Stats wise he fits the criteria but that'd be like giving it to PacMan next year because he had such bad stats this year.

If Priest can contribute he's a good candidate.

Seau had a pretty badly broken arm and is already old to be performing this well

Favre

Or give it to Brees again for overcoming that awful first 4 games.

Just throwing things out there for discussion:

For the legitimate NFL comeback player of the year (overcoming injury or adversity) I'm having a hard time coming up with a name, but I'm guessing I'm overlooking several guys. Has it been too long since Big Ben's crash for him to get comeback? Would he had to have played well enough last year to win it then? If Hasselback finishes strong could he get it after offseason shoulder surgery (albeit non-throwing arm)? Isn't Portis coming off injury second half of last year? If he finishes strong he could be possibility.

For fantasy football performance, you've all identified the top candidate in Randy Moss. How about adding Favre? Big Ben could be on this list too? Travis Henry (it's a stretch with his performance of late, but we'll see how rest of year goes)?

Can't really say Moss when it was his own laziness and poor attitude causing him to be so terrible. (I know the Raiders drug him down too, but he so dogged it last year it's not funny.)

Priest is a good option, especially if he does anything at all in the next couple weeks.

How can Kevin Jones be up for consideration when he was never that good in the first place so far?

Moss should be excluded simply because his poor play over the previous few years was because of laziness and a bad attitude.

I would give it to Roethlisberger, although if Priest Holmes comes back and does well, he could have a strong case.

Yes, how is that possible? You dont try and have a lack of effort, but then get a league comeback award for doing your job and not coming back from anything?

 Seriously?

If Favre takes that team to the superbowl he will get mad props. Even here in Chicago... at least until next season starts.

Hard to believe it won't be Moss in a runaway. Valid question about what he's 'coming back from' but I simply don't see the voters skipping him.

Tom Brady. He had a decent year last season but didn't win the Superbowl which was a huge letdown for him and NE fans. If he keeps putting up big numbers and wins the Superbowl he deserves it.

god, lots of candidates this year. depend whom is voting, ...can't recall, players, coaches, or...?

Moss - perceived attitude, how bad the injury really was... the Raiders are bottom of the NFL, the Pats are at the top... Josh McCown throwing to him, vs Tom Brady....comeback vs circumstance... hmmm

Favre - everyone's darling... done for... other than Driver, a bunch of nonames... and they could post 13 wins.

DAnderson - no. he's on his way up, nothing to comeback from.

Kevin Jones - i dig him, but not a fan of coming back from injury, unless devestating. he recoverd a little quicker... but the perserverance of injury recover doesn't do enough for me.

Priest - will have to have some productivity. gotta commend the bravery, getting back into, etc at his age.

Many ppl miss the objective of the award:

Some other "legit" nominations1: RB Clinton Portis (Played 8 games last season. Already has 629 yards rushing in 8 games) - injury2: WR Andre Davis (Has 2 catches all of last year. Already has 441 yards receiving in 7 games) - um, coming back from what? he just improved.3: RB LaMont Jordan (Played 10 games last year. Already has 521 yards rushing in 8 games) - fizzzled out badly, no way.4: RB Kevin Jones (Played 12 games last year. Already has 343 yards rushing in 6 games) - injury, but much more severe than Portis5: WR Brandon Stokley (Played 4 games last year. Already has 351 yards receiving in 8 games) - injury, not much to write about6: WR Keary Colbert (Has 5 catches all of last year. Already has 270 yards receiving in 8 games) - again, improving player... not a once stud, returning back to form against odds/circumstance/personal/etc...So NO to any injury for the sake of injury (save Priest's and KJs sitchs, but Priest needs to perform...somewhat). And GAWD NO to players like Andre Davis and Keary Colbert.Priest if he performs, LJ is out the rest of the way, and media tugs at the heartstrings

KJones if he blows up.

Otherwise, this is Favre's too lose. He's carrying this team, and it's a great swan song tribute to him (love or hate)

Too early to say for sure, but the Pats have some candidates:

Asante Samuel: from a holdout

Rodney Harrison: from a suspension

Tom Brady: From the delivery room

Tom Brady: From Gizelle's apartment

Belichick: from the video room

Priest will win the "should not have come back" player of the year award when is fragile neck snaps.

I vote KJ, or Brett Farve. Yes Brett has not come back from an injury but he was simply awful last year.

How can Kevin Jones be up for consideration when he was never that good in the first place so far?
:lmao: Seriously?
Okay, Jones had a better rookie year than I remember him having, but he is on pace for a whopping 686 rushing yards, which is less than he had last year, so I am not sure why so many are listing him. I think everyone is just assuming he is going to run all over the place in the second half of the season now that the Tatum Bell threat is all but gone, but with Jones, nothing is certain.

What about Eli Manning? All the criticism and Tiki gone, losing Jacobs in the 1st game. Giant's are in good shape, if they win the NFC. Just saying.

I always thought this award should be given to someone who "comes back" from something. One year they gave the award to Tommy Maddox, and he had a good year that year, but what exactly did he come back from? You need to be good in the first place, then bad, then good again. That being said, there are really only three candidates: Moss, Big Ben, and Farve. Moss should get it, but everybody hates him (and rightly so!) Big Ben was great only two years ago, so its not enough of a comeback.

And that leaves Brett, everybody's great hero (mine too!) Sure, it's not like he was terrible the last couple of years, but his team was; that's enough. I'm betting Farve wins this award...

Not quite sure Dallas Clark cuts it for this type of list, but he's having a much improved year after missing 4 games last year, already equally his numbers for those 12 games. Hasselbeck might fall into this same type of category.

Kitna could fall into this category given how much he has improve over last year and the fact that the Lions are playing much much better which would make him the 2nd 2-time winner along with Garrison Hearst. Hearst is actually an interesting case study in that he shared the award in 1995, having really done nothing in the league in 1993 or 1994, so it certainly is possible to win it with no prior resume. (Barry Word won in it in 1990, rushing for 1000 yards after missing a full season. Prior to that, though he only had 2 touchdowns, 36 carries and 137 yards in 14 NFL Games played.) Hell, in 1985 they picked NOBODY.

I think Priest is gonna start too late.

Kitna is a real possibility, when he won the award the first time, he came off a mediocre season for a losing team that improved greatly.

Moss certainly has to be considered a very solid chance - the only drawback I can see is that there's a perception that he jaked it for the Raiders. Would they reward him "coming back" from poor stats that were possibly due to poor effort?

The list is dominated by QBs and RBs with a few WRs and Defensive players (1 LB, 3 D-line). TEs, Ks, Ps, DBs, and O-linemen have never won the award.

If I were to take a guess at this - I would think Portis will win it. If Kenny Watson finds a way to get 1000 yards and a few more TDs, he seems like the type that fits the bill as well.

Derek Anderson is right now a lock for "most improved player" or something like that. He hasn't comeback from anything.

I think it's Favre vs. Moss - and Randy might need some records to win this one. Right now, both are legit MVP candidates - which is not the norm for this award. Problem is, Moss is coming back from not really caring a lot - as others said - and that's not going to win a lot of sympathy.

Are there any candidates on D or linemen of note? I can't think of any.
