Commish needs advice: ESPN scoring "update" screws up waiver (1 Viewer)

Team A and Team B both put in a waiver wire claim for Deion Branch this week.

In our ESPN league (really starting to hate that league site :) ) ESPN made a correction to the scores on Thursday, which caused Team A's score to be lowered by 2 points, which caused them to lose to Team C.

Prior to the scoring update, the waiver wire process had concluded, awarding Deion Branch to Team B who was lower in the standings, and thus higher in waiver wire priority.

Team A is now arguing that Deion Branch should be his, because, but for the scoring error, he would have had waiver wire priority over Team B. This is true.

Team B is arguing it should retain Branch because, all year long we have just gone by what ESPN's website determined, rather than open up Pandora's Box. Tis is also true.

I can see both sides of the argument.

I am appealing to the collective wisdom of the Shark Pool to help me figure this one out.

So who gets Branch, Team A or Team B?

Tough one. I think if you allow the scoring fix to change the outcome of the Team A/Team C game, I think you have to allow it to change the waiver priority. So I would lean towards giving it to Team A.

Team A should get something out of this, either the victory over Team C or Branch. Maybe in the future the waivers should be processed after the scores are finalized.

I agree
I also agree. By team B's logic, the Thursday correction should not have been allowed to change the outcome of the game - and Team A should have kept the victory. That makes no sense.

 Done. I don't think it's even that tough.
