Commish Question (1 Viewer)

Someone dropped Derrick Henry when waivers ran Tuesday and picked up JJ Nelson.  Henry was put on waivers and I won the bid today.  The team that dropped Henry just posted a message on the Yahoo league site saying that Yahoo had Demarco Murrays injury information under Henrys and that is why he dropped him.  He says he tried to get him back after they corrected the information, but could not.  I put a claim in on Henry as soon as he was dropped.  I never saw the incorrect information, but have no reason not to believe him.

What should I do as commish?  Leave everything as is, reverse the waiver moves or take a league vote on what to do?  The only problem with reversing waivers is I have no way of knowing if anyone else had a claim in for JJ Nelson.

Sounds like a genuine mistake that he quickly tried to rectify. Reverse it and allow JJ back into the waiver mix. Teams will just have to accept the human error factor here. It's not life and death.

This is what I was thinking, but he waited until Friday to say anything and the waivers ran Tuesday.

For me it would depend on the type of league.  If its a friendly league I'd reverse it (probably).  Laugh it off with a "hey, do your research next time" type comment.

But if its a competitive league I'd let it stand. Everyone's responsible for their own research and roster moves.

I don't care what kind of league it is. I would never reverse it. Who makes a decision based on one source? It is on every owner to make informed decisions.

I undid the waivers.  If it had been another team besides mine that got Henry I probably wouldn't have done it.  It is a low dollar work league so I can love with it.

Very commendable of you. If it were me I wouldn't reverse it. Frankly I also wouldn't have the  balls to ask for a reversal. User error, poor information, etc. No one ever wants to own anything these days.

Friendly work league, good call. Sometimes the right move is keeping the peace, especially if its casual friends & family or low buy-in work leagues.

For competitive leagues, Friday is too late. If it’s Tuesday waivers & he posted Wednesday morning, I’d consider undoing it, Still a “shame on him for relying on single source info” deal, that’s his fault for not paying.

In my 25 year redraft league, we finally instituted IR slots this year. Can’t stash suspended players there, D or Q have to stay in the active roster, but once they’re declared out they can go to IR & you get another BN spot. Before Week 1 somebody flat dropped Luck. I reposted how IR works & texted the person who dropped Luck. They told me it’s their own fault for not understanding how the new IR works. The guy who won the FABB sent me a text asking if I wanted to undo it. Told him nah worries, everyone has to learn the rules, not his fault, you won it fair & square.  Since those two were cool with it IDC how the other 9 feel.

:excited: ;)

Good call imo.  Agree with others that the type of league does matter here. I wouldn't reverse it in my league unless it was a somewhat obvious phone error, and we were immediately contacted (dynasty with deep benches so dropping Henry would be a fairly obvious mistake) but not because the guy didn't do more research.

Yeah I kinda missed the Friday part but you still did the right thing. Nobody would intentionally drop Henry right now. I agree with the others that as a commish you have to weigh the seriousness of the league at times vs. the need to take a hard line stance. If JJ Nelson were a highly sought after player, you might have had a much stickier situation. I would correct this situation BUT I'd make an email statement/website post reminding people that they are responsible for their transactions and you are under no obligation to overturn them.

Undoing the move is fine, but I think there is an obligation on you and the rest of the league to sink a few barbs into him for being a #######. Unless he antes up some quality mea culpa beer or something, of course.

He waited 3 days to actually say something on the league message board?   For me...that would have been an immediate response when I realized I had made a mistake like that.

Not buying it....

Seems to me that, even reversing things, you are still entitled to Murray.

Unless you didnt want to pay that much for him...

Agree. If you are gonna drop someone of value check multiple sources.

how could a Henry owner possible make that mistake given the usage last weekend?

Never reverse that - I would quit any league where the commish allowed a regretful drop to be reversed.  What if another owner besides you claimed him? Would you reverse that?

Sounds like a great way to blow up a league to me.

This is a hard lesson for some fantasy owners:  use Google before dropping a player. Especially considering ALL the news about Henry has been positive he last week+.

also color me skeptical that a league news update had Murray's info under Henry. More likely he misread the update where it said "Murray hurt, Henry to be used more".  I've read several of those updates where it's great news for the replacement & they talk at length about the injured starter.

I call BS on wrong news and shenanigans on taking any commish action to reverse.

One man's opinion.

I guess you can do whatever you want.  Even owners in the lowest stakes leagues should do a quick fact check.  It takes 1 minute to jump on Twitter or google "Derrick Henry Injury" before dropping a guy.

Are you even sure that what his excuse was is true?

I made a rule a few years ago that I wouldn't reverse any mistakes, so I told them be careful with their drops.

His reasoning wasn't even a true accident. Anyway, you probably did the right thing to keep the peace especially since I believe that Commissioners need to have an extra level of appearance of fairness.

In a work league, where there's the slightest possibility that the guy could mess with your livelihood at some point, you probably have to reverse the waiver.

But that guy gave a pretty weak excuse.
