This league is as close to being an NFL GM as you are likely to find
anywhere!
We normally use the term Franchise to describe the league because Dynasty
does not come close enough. The 3FL (FFB Franchise League) is based on the
dual challenges of salary cap and contract lengths. You can't keep your
whole team as long as you want (Dynasty) - you need to have foresight. You
can't just pick guys who will be good, you need to decide if their salaries
are in line with your expected performance, and keep your team under the
cap. We don't use an auction, but instead calibrate salaries based on
projected performance and existing contracts. This allows owners to know
the market ahead of the draft and plan for a series of four drafts without
the aspects of a rapid-fire auction.
We don't go out of our way to create complexity, but these two concepts
require plenty of details to make them clear. Our rulebook is 15 pages
long in MS Word! If the sound of that does not get you interested then you
may not be a good fit for the league. In reality, once you know the rules
you don't need to worry much about details - but you can't be afraid of
complexity and challenges.
The league is going into its 4th year and we are still in search of the
right 12 guys. Six of the original 12 remain and the rest have decided
(for various reasons at various times) that the league is not the right fit
for them. 8 of the 10 current owners live in NJ and our drafts are usually
in Brielle on the shore off of exit 98.
We have added 2 new people for this already this offseason.
The new owners will have an expansion draft from the players on the
departing teams (including L.T. and some other great players). The owners
who do not get to pick first (and have first shot at L.T.) will get the
chance to pick first in any of our other 3 drafts (rookie, free agent and
half price draft) with tons of talent available. This is not a normal
Dynasty format - and roughly half of the players are free agents every off
season. These new teams could definitely win it all this year, or take a
long-term building approach.
If you want more details please reply or PM me ASAP.
