Computer guys, perplexing problem (1 Viewer)

Trying to fix my brothers computer........

His internet is slow and intermittent.

Seems fairly easy, check router, modem etc........ Only problem is, every other device on the network works fine. Two iPads and two phones. Only his computer is the problem.

I brought it to my house to work on it, the internet flies. No problems at all. Back to his house, same thing, it comes and goes and is slow.

WTF?

The only thing that I can think of, is maybe it's the wireless printer they have? It has it's own web address etc. Could it be trying to access the same port? Is that a thing?

Can anyone offer an opinion here?

I'd try wiring it straight to the router/modem or manually configuring the IP address/DNS.

How old is the laptop? Wireless modem might be an older model. Also how much bandwidth is his provider giving him? Check speed test when at his house. The devices could be eating all of it.

Yep, you can also try wiring it straight to the wireless router and see if the wireless is the issue. What brand wireless router does he have vs what you have?

The laptop is only a couple years old. I will try hardwiring.

Not sure what router he has. I know he has a combined router/modem from Time Warner

IP Conflict? That's really the only thing i can think of...

from the command line do

ipconfig /release

then

ipconfig /renew
