Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (2 Viewers)

Going to some local fireworks thing tonight.  Five for Fighting and The Fray are  playing.  Don’t really know anything about them but my wife is excited.
I am willing to bet you will be underwhelmed.  Unless you love sappy love ballads from the 90's.

The Cult any good live?  They're coming around in a bit.

I am definitely going to Chvrches - they're coming around in October.

Radiohead at MSG next Friday. Have heard no rumors of new material, so curious of the set mix. They play Chicago first,  so will get a view
@Big Blue Wrecking Crew

Getting excited.  The wife and I are going to the first Chicago show on the 6th.   I have been looking at setlists from their South America leg of the tour and it is a mix from all the albums, but the ones I saw were fairly similar with a tweak here and there.  Here is the setlist from the last show they did down there:

Daydreaming

Ful Stop

15 Step

Myxomatosis

All I Need

Pyramid Song

Everything In It's Right Place

Let Down

Bloom

Reckoner

No Surprises

My Iron Lung

Exit Music

Weird Fishes/Arpeggi

2+2 = 5

Idioteque

Identikit

Nude

Street Spirit

Lotus Flower

Bodysnatchers

Creep

There, There

Paranoid Android

Karma Police

I will update when we get back about how it was, what they played, etc..

This is the other concert we are going to this year.  Not sure the date, but I think my wife said they were in Milwaukee.  (and coming to Madison, but I think that was announced after we got the tix to the show we are going to).

Some takes from Arroyoseco weekend

1) Robert Plant killed Zep stuff but his own music is all over the place

2) Chrissie Hynde is a baddass at 66. Pretenders were awesome

3) Fantastic Negrito was the find of the festival. I’ll see this dude anywhere. Saw he’s playing at Antoine’s in San Antonio soon. I’d kill to see him at that venue. Phenomenal performer.

4) Third Eye Blind is in fact very fun to see live. Crowd ate it up

5) Kings of Leon were solid  Just not my favorite music

6) Prince’s band, Revolution, was great

7) The Specials were anything but  Worst lead singer ever

8) Violent Femmes sounded like a bad version of the B52’s  Couple hits but bad

9) Los Lobos - huge, huge fan of these guys  Great

10) Gary Clark Jr - love him but thought he could have played louder. Might have been the mix.  I've seen him several times including opening for Eric Clapton and he was brilliant.  Off day I guess.

11) Neil Young - first time seeing him  Mad respect  What a musician  Every song was  a 15 minute jam. Don’t know why I haven’t seen him before  Very good
I was there for the second day, a birthday present from the girlfriend. I was mostly there for Robert Plant, and the old guy has still got it. He started off the set big with The Lemon Song, Four Sticks and What is and What Should Never Be as three of the first four songs, and I was like this is awesome. The third, fifth and sixth songs were newer ones he's done with his backup band, the Sensational Space Shifters, and those songs are pretty good. Sound like something you could hear on the radio today, similar to The Lumineers. Then the seventh song is Going to California. From there is where I thought it went off the rails a bit with some cover songs when I would have rather had more Zep. He came with Whole Lotta Love in a medley for the final song. Would have rather heard the whole song, and it was the first of the Zep songs that seemed to be missing something, probably Page but also it didn't have Plant's epic close. So I was a little disappointed with how the second half of the set played out, but still really happy to see him for the first time.

You must just not like the Violent Femmes, as they were the ones I liked second best, but that's just because they were the band I liked second best growing up out of the ones there. I thought they had some good energy and that the lead singer sounds exactly the same, which is now a little strange given how he looks. The Bangles were the first concert I ever went to as a kid, with my parents taking me in the late 80s, so it was fun to see them again even though I only like three of their songs. Going to see them again in a week when they play for free at Pershing Square. I saw Alanis' set and thought she was kind of boring, but a lot of recognizable songs.

Still can't find pavilion seats for the Foo Fighters for less than $200.  This may have to be a Friday last minute deal if it happens at all.  The good news is I can buy the tix and be at the venue within a 1/2 hour.

Have tix for Dead and Company Saturday at Dodger Stadium.  Bunch of my friends are serious Deadheads so this was a bucket list.  Good thing it's a 7pm show.  Major heat wave (like 112 degrees) coming to So Cal.  I don't do any drugs, just drink. Any shot of me liking this show?

Life-changing experience.

I’ve got VIP tix(booze/food) to see Steven Tyler play at our local rib fest tomorrow

I haven’t seen Aerosmith since 86

Radiohead show was fantastic.  More the chill side of the band as they focused on the new stuff, but they did mix in some Paranoid Android and other guitar heavy songs.  Don't remember the full set list,  but the 2nd encore was: Blow Out, No Surprises, and There There.

What do you define as "new stuff"?

Why would you buy tickets days earlier if money is an object?  Always wait as long as you can, this isn't the stock market.

Especially when you can be there within 1/2 hour!  Hit stub hub and find and download your tix an hour before the show.

Touche

No brand new stuff, just a focus on AMSP/KOL/iR.   When I looked at setlists for their South American tour it felt more spread out through the albums.

As usual, they sounded great and even songs that aren't at the top of my list sound better live.  It had been awhile since I had seen them, and it's the best show of theirs I've seen when you factor in lights/background, Thom's playfulness and confidence on stage,, etc..

Looked it up because I have a crap memory, and here was the setlist:

Daydreaming

Desert Island Disk

Ful Stop

Morning Bell

Myxomatosis

All I Need

Pyramid Song

Paranoid Android

Decks Dark

Let Down

Bloom

The Numbers

How to Disapper Completely

Reckoner

Lotus  Flower

Idioteque

Everything in its Right place

Encore:

Burn the Witch

Weird Fishes

Fake Plastic Trees

Nude

15 Step

Encore 2:

Blow Out  (I guess first time since '08?)

No Surprises

There, There

The Cult any good live?  They're coming around in a bit.
saw The Cult the last time a few years back.  Wasn't the best show I ever saw but wasn't horrible.  Ian Astbury's voice seemed a little off for some reason

Foo Fighters tonight in Camden from the lawn - I really hope they don't play a lot from the new album (should be called "Concrete and Off The Medal Platform" instead of "Concrete and Gold").

Deadheat tie dye T shirt purchased.  Bar is set up.  Limo picking us up in 2 1/2 hours.  If I don't make it back it's been a good run

night two Chicago Radiohead. Holy hell. can't say I was disappointed. Haven't seen a setlist, but know they played The national Anthem, bodysnatchers, The Gloaming, Lucky and Karma Police. Want to see them again.

Erasure was pretty awesome last night.  These guys are still going strong on their latest 401k tour.  It was interesting that St. Pete was the 2nd stop on the tour.  Andy Bell lives in Miami so it makes sense I suppose.  Next up for me is David Byrne at the end of September.  I’ve already seen 4 shows since May which is more concerts than the rest of the time I’ve lived in FL.  Great summer so far.

Did not pull the trigger on the Foos.  Watched all the ticket sites and decent pavilion seats didn't drop to $175 each until 8pm.  That was just too late and combined with the new album heavy set list they've been playing, we stayed on the sidelines for this one.

Headed to T Swizzle with the wife, daughter, and her friend Tuesday at FedEx Field.

The Camden setlist looked really good. Might look closer at the MSG show now

@ericttspikes

I saw that you guys got Airbag too.

HERE is where I have been looking to see what the setlists for the dates on the tour have been. We were very tempted to try to find tix for last night's show too.

Thanks. Wish I went Friday too. The National Anthem and Bodysnatchers are a few of my favorites so I'm glad I caught them live. Haven't seen them for 6 years, so it was a treat. Sounded tight. Lighting and visuals are great on this tour. I'm assuming most of the tour is sold out, but plenty of great seats released both nights day of the show. Got to think the same thing happens for the MSG and Boston shows. Could of gotten into the building for $40 once Stubhub prices cratered a bit too. Well worth it.

Dead and Company was phenomenal.  I get it now.  Dodger Stadium was a perfectly fine place to see a concert.  First of all, rumors were they were going to be very strict as they've had no tailgating and have been very tough on alcohol since the Giant fan incident years ago.  But they let Shakedown Street happen and the Deadheads were in fine form.  Some unbelievable party buses made out of old VWs.  Pretty cool.

Stage was set up in center field.  We were right back of the pit 9 rows back.  Sound was surprisingly good.  John Mayer is just unbelievable on guitar, will be interesting to see where he goes down in history.  But loved the entire vibe and sound.  Set list:

Playin' in the Band

Bertha

Jackstraw

Big Railroad Blues

Peggy-O

Ramble on Rose

Cumberland Blues

Deal

Sugar Magnolia

Scarlet Begonias

Fire on the Mountain

Althea (Phenomenal BTW)

Eyes of the World

Drums/Space

Stella Blue

Sunshine Daydream

E - Brokedown Palace

E - Not Fadeaway

Was on the lawn for the Saturday night Foo show in Camden - caught tickets in the public onsale, but game day lawn tickets were $125+.

Would consider it a very good show, but not great - if you have seen them in the past, then I would not consider it a must-see show this time around.  Agree with @James Daulton that too many "meh" new songs, plus the extended outro jam of The Pretender, different versions of songs (Wheels has a new arrangement) and the lengthy cover song block in the middle of the show combines to stunt any momentum this show builds to send the show into the great zone.  But when they got rolling, it was a classic FF show.

I'd post one setlist item as a spoiler, but I do not remember how to do that.

Interesting commentary. Foo Fighters are at the top of my “must see” list. Would love it if they headlined Arroyoseco next year. They show up randomly around here, including unannounced at our local Conejo Valley Fair and then playing at a local small pizza joint of all places.

I was poking around youtube tonight, and saw a 1hr clip of the Radiohead concert from Saturday night (the one I wasn't at)  HERE.  Gives a good idea of the show, but still doesn't do it justice.

As a side note, I am still surprised at the amount of dumbasses who pay money to see these artists live, just do **** around on their phones half the time or watch the show through their phone as they record the show.

@dal_boys_phan Any tips on attending a show in Camden?  I've never been and am headed up to see a show in a month or two.  I'll be coming from Baltimore and will drive there and back.  Pavilion seats.

The radiohead subreddit does a good job of compiling this stuff, has links to live streams during the shows, etc.  Pretty sure you can still watch the full periscopes now.  I watched most of both nights in Chicago live from my couch.

Definitely.  Will post them here to help out any other FBGs (or to solicit additional advice).

Since you are in the pavilion, no need to worry about going in at the right time to catch the best seat on the lawn.  For the pavilion, the 100's are closest to stage, 200's are furthest to stage.  Sections 102/202 are the center of the pavilion, Sections 100-101/200-201 are considered the "Walt" side (for the Walt Whitman Bridge to Philly) and Sections 103-104/203-204 are considered the "Ben" side (for the Ben Franklin Bridge to Philly).  Reason I note this is because I like to park on the side of the building where my seats are (I typically swing for seats on the Walt side) to make getting out of there easier logistics.  Parking is $30 (or $40 if you picked up VIP parking during the on-sale), unless you head to Victor's Pub (on Ben side) before the game and spend $40+, which allows you to park there during the show for free and just a five minute walk to the venue.  Sometimes, you can grab a VIP parking pass from StubHub - if you do, make sure it's actually on the NJ side and not the PA side where you then have to take the ferry across to the venue - VIP Lot 1 passes are the best for the Walt side, as that lot is right outside of the entry gates.  A handicap placard does allow you to park in the VIP lots with a gameday price of $30.

If it's a sold out show, I try to get there about 20-30 minutes after lots open and tailgate up until when I want to go into the venue.  If you try to time it "just right", you may get stuck in some heavy traffic as all of the ways into the venue lots are through city streets, so I will try to eliminate that unknown if I can.  Same for going into the venue - I try to go in 30 minutes before the first artist I want to see in case it's backed up going in through security.  You are allowed one unopened bottle of water per person.

Assuming the artist has a "standard" setlist, if it's a work night we typically start walking out after the guitar solo of that last song.  Puts me in front of 80% of the crowd heading out and prevents me from getting caught up in traffic heading out.  Camden is not the greatest of neighborhoods, so I typically stick to getting out as quick as possible after the show and I don't go sightseeing.  If my seats are in the center of pavilion or Ben side and I happened to park on Walt side for tailgating, then I will try to hang out on the Walt side of pavilion for the last song of the show by sliding into an empty row.  Tailgating is fine for any of the lots around the venue - work everything through a red Solo cup and should have no issues, although security is pretty good about giving 1st warnings if you are not acting crazy.

Follow the venue on Twitter for details on when the lot open, gates open and possibly set times.  Another way to get the set times is to go by the snack stands in the pavilions at either end (Ben or Walt) of the venue as you enter - they typically will post them on the side of one or two of the pretzel or popcorn machines.  Food options other than pretzel or popcorn are at the OUTSIDE stands at either end of the lawn section - Chickie and Pete's Crab Fries at either end, Guy Fieri burgers only on the Ben side.  Pretty easy to traverse from Ben to Walt side as there is a walking channel between the pavilion and the lawn to allow for this.  Ben side is along the Delaware River across from Philly - you can check out the Battleship NJ that is parked there if you take a walk back (that is also where they would setup any "B" stage for a festival concert date).  Bathrooms in each of the pavilions or outside near the food stands.

Lastly, BB&T Pavilion has a seriously good beer game - probably about 25+ different stands from various local breweries, plus every standard brand.  When I counted last year, I think I saw about 75 different varieties of beer from your standard Bud/Coors/Miller up to the various craft styles on tap.

Holy chit, I was just looking for some parking and in-out tips!  Great information, thanks very much.  Going to see Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town, haven't acquired tix or parking as of yet.

You are welcome on the advice and if you do end up going, we may have to meet up - already ticketed for the lawn to see that show myself.

One thing I meant to mention earlier - as would be expected, the best sound in the pavilion is with the middle sections 101/201 to 103/203.  Hit or miss with the sections on the ends, unless you are on the side closest to those center sections - had a really bad sound experience a few years back with Brad Paisley (but similar seats for MMRBQ were fine for sound).

I bought Radiohead tickets for the July 28 show in Boston before I realized it conflicted with my family going to Italy. I'm trying to give the tickets to a buddy as a wedding gift but the Transfer Tickets feature in my Ticketmaster account is not enabled for this show. Tickets are mobile-only and "will be ready prior to event – anytime after 7:30pm on Fri, Jul 27, 2018 (we'll email you a reminder when they're ready)."

Can someone else who bought tickets for this tour, and has already gone, comment on whether I'll be able to transfer them the day of the show - or better yet sometime before? I get that they're trying to limit the resale market but this is a hassle I don't want to be bothered with while on vacation. And I don't want to promise them to the guy and then have an issue getting them to him.

Yes, I was able to transfer them no problem from my Ticketmaster account. They were available 24 hours prior.

Tough to say at this point if they will turn the transfer on, but I would imagine you should be able to transfer once the tickets are enabled, otherwise why wait until the night before the show to turn on ticket visibility.

Worst case, you can give him your Ticketmaster log-in info, and he can download the app and view the tickets on his phone.
