Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (4 Viewers)

Modest Mouse tonight in Santa Barbara.  3rd time seeing them.  Scored 3rd row at the Arlington Theater.  Should be a good show.  Hopefully i get some passes left for me at will call.  My friend Jim is the guitar player...

Heading up to Rock on the Range in Columbus tomorrow night for Tool.

Got pit tickets for Slayer's farewell tour on June 6 in Cincinnati (6/6, one six away). Lamb of God, Anthrax, Testament, and Behemoth opening.

I just grabbed a ticket for Horse Feathers tonight. I am not a fan of this venue but I am hoping for a good show. What I have heard from this band I liked.

Dirks Bentley at Meriweather Post last night.  Dirks spent a lot of time running through the crowd and was high energy the entire show.

He sounded great and the show was awesome.
Was going to go tonight, but passed due to rain in NJ.  May hit that show at MSG in the fall.  How were the openers?

Great.  Lanco and Brothers Osborne.  Both acts were fantastic openers.

Horse Feathers was entertaining. I was amazed how often he had to tune his guitar. It was literally after every song and took some time. I get it that its your guitar and you have had it long enough that its beat to #### but seriously?

Was a good show for a VERY small crowd. Maybe 40-50 people?

Got 2 U2 shows Tues/Wed this week (followed by a screening of Solo Thursday night). David Byrne in a couple of weeks, and Radiohead in early July. Not much else on the docket this summer, which is financially a good thing.

Took my daughter and 2 of her friends to Thomas Rhett Friday night. Openers were Russell Dickerson and Brett Young and it was a surprisingly good show. May have a line on Bayou Country Superfest tickets in Nola next weekend with George Strait and Stapleton to name a couple. Really hoping that comes through.

How was the show?  Last two times they’ve been here I’ve done the headphones and snowcones thing.  Highly recommended.
Pretty good.  I didn't notice anyone with headphones.  May not have been in a state to notice, though.

That looks pretty cool.  Even in nice venues with great sound the band can be turned up so loud everything seems muffled too me.

I've always been told a good way to maximize your experience is to wear ear plugs.  Never personally done it, but I like the idea.
It's a great experience.  It's $40 extra, so I wouldn't have done it when I was younger, but now that I'm a boring old Dad who rarely gets out to shows I always spring for better seats, or the better experience in this case.  It's also a great ice breaker to chat up some hot chicks at the show, if that's your thing.  Sharing the headphones for a song is a boss move.

Saw Courtney Barnett @ The Chicago Cultural Center's Preston Bradley Hall last night. I've lived in Chicago my whole life and have never seen a rock show inside the Chicago Cultural Center. The building is crazy; built in 1897 it's all marble, wood and brass with mosaic covering the walls and floors. The kind of place you could dose and spend the day getting lost in the detail. The hall where she played has a 40 foot wide Tiffany stained glass dome in the middle of it and the acoustics were great. There was only a couple hundred people there and plenty of room. Great venue for a show.

Courtney was great. She played her new album in it's entirety then played about 8 of her older tunes like Avant Gardener, Elevator Operator, Pedestrian at Best and Depreston. Depreston is one of my favorite songs by any artist. Kind of Waterloo Sunset territory for me. Glad to see it live again.

I was a huge fan of PJ Harvey in the 90's, and Courtney is everything that I loved about that era of PJ's music. She just plays great guitar rock. Really reminds me a lot of Cobain's playing; not a great guitarist per se but she shreds. The new album is solid and she puts on a good rock show.

bought tickets to see Social Distortion Friday, October 12th at the Fillmore in Detroit.  saw them over 25 years ago.

looking forward to a Friday night show for once

Caught Joe Bonamassa (Easton, PA) and Steven Wilson (NYC, always a freakin' trip!) last month.

Coming up:

Journey/Def Leppard in Philly with my wife. Neither of us have ever seen Journey and DL is one of her favorites.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd w/Beth Hart in Asbury Park, NJ.  I don't know anything about KWS but really wanted to see Beth Hart.

You are in for a treat. He is awesome.

Dead and Co in lovely Camden tomorrow. Venue actually not bad (typical summer shed) but don't take a wrong turn. Not my bag, but the girlfriend is old school Deadhead who says Mayer is the closest anyone has come to replicating Jerry's playing. Me, wouldn't be able to tell if he couldn't.

Should be entertaining sightseeing as well...

Funny you mention Beth Hart.  I barely remember seeing her well over a decade ago but I do remember thinking this chick is going places.  I haven't followed her at all, should I re-aquaint myself?
I'm not a die-hard fan, but I know she had to clean her self up and has come back with a new outlook.  She's kind of a modern day Janice Joplin.  I know of her from her work with Joe Bonamassa.

Check her out on Spotify.

I've been going through his catalog to familiarize myself.  I like it, but he seems to border on country-rock quite a bit.  I'm sure the show will be great though.  I also really like the venue, so that was plus in deciding to go.

Mayer is entirely different than Jerry, but still awesome.  Have a toke and have fun.

Camden’s shed has awesome sound (except when Brad Paisley plays there) and an even better craft beer game, if that’s your thing.

Paul Simon's farewell tour last night in Dallas. Can't believe how great he will sounds and how energetic this 76 year old is. He and his 14 race band played for over 2 straight hours non stop. Every one of them a multi instrumentalist. As good as I've ever seen him. Hope he keeps making music (he said he plans to)...

Phil collins coming around.

How is he live?

Im not a huge fan but one of those guys that i realize i like alot of his catalog.

Melissa Etheridge tickets go on sale next week. Has anyone seen her lately? I was a big fan 20 years ago. Does she still have it? What is a fair price?

Saw David Byrne's "American Utopia" tour Friday night, the first of three sold-out Chicago shows. An absolute inspiration.

Please, if you have the opportunity to see this tour, go see it. I've been going to his shows since '97, and I've never seen him achieve something so ambitious. I never got to see the Stop Making Sense tour live, but I've seen the film on the big screen, owned it on multiple formats, etc.--and this tour is up there with that.

Saw them in Hershey over Memorial Day weekend.  DL opened and had a great set.  Journey was plagued with sound issues and what seemed like endless guitar, drum, and piano solos that took the audience out of the show.  Which was disappointing since Journey was my favorite band of my youth.

Hopefully they have worked out some of the kinks since the Hershey Show.

Is he doing the marching band inspired set he did at Coachella?

I saw her 2 years ago when she was the opening act at.  1st time I've seen her.  Bad ###.  Thought she was great.

Nope.  KWS is all blues, man.  Maybe rock.  No country.

We saw Johnny Marr last night.  He's playing a few US dates in advance of his new record out this month.  He'll be back with a longer tour in Sept-Oct.

He's a decent frontman for a guy who became famous as a sideman for Morrissey.  The Smiths songs understandably still get the biggest crowd response (along with one Electronic cover) but his solo stuff fits in well.  His setlist had a lot of songs from his upcominng album.

Prices dropped for depeche mode in philly.

Glad I waited.

Will be pulling the trigger in a few. Paid off to wait this time.
Lost my "value" when my 9 year old son said he now wanted to come. Buying 3 tix made it a challenge and raised the price a good deal.

Still worth it. Very fun show again. Hearr a few songs i never heard live before.

Was a long nite as we got home after midnight and kids were somewhat disinterested and waiting for the 2 or 3 songs they know....but came home today and my son was singing "the grabbing hands grab all they can....everything counts in large amounts"

Mission accomplished
