Connection to NFL players (1 Viewer)

Former Lion Jay Bledsoe "Bluto" is now a Brig. General in my state Air National Guard. I only know him in passing, but he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. I don't recall what position he played but he only played for 2 or 3 years as I recall.

Johnny Unitas used to bring his kids into my parent's hobby shop to buy skateboards for his son. That was pretty surreal.

Two minor connections to NFL players ...

My son went to elementary school with Matthew Stafford.

Less recent (yes, that's possible), when I was in 4th grade, my math teacher was Jerry Rhome's mother (he was a backup QB for the Cowboys at the time), and she used to pass out autograpned 8 x 10 photos of her son in class. I don't recall anyone ever actually ASKING for one.

oh yea... my stepfather's dad was a scout on the Buffalo Bills back in the heyday. He gave my stepdad and his other two kids his AFC championship rings.

baseball, but in gradeschool i played lots of kickball with chase utley. good teammate encouraging the younger kids and i remember him being the captain or first pick and always getting at least doubles. rangy build, great fielder. i remember him because hey i played a ton of kickball.

I have tutored a few. I have to say, not all of them are stupid, just disinterested. I guess I would have been too if I were in their position.

I was high school teammates with Derrick Johnson and LaMarcus McDonald(cup of coffee in NFL, great college player). I've met LT2 a couple of times since I'm good friends with 2 of his cousins, that's it for me.

My BIL married a woman whos daughter got impregnated by an offensive lineman. BIL says she did it for a money grab. My BIL is going through a rough patch in the marriage and some of it has to do with his wifes adult children, so he may be speaking in anger.

I am not naming teams to protect the not so innocent and I dont need an O lineman hunting me down. :goodposting:

* I dont think the money grab thing is working out. Last I heard he dropped her.

I got Ed DeBartolo Jr.'s autograph outside the Football Hall of Fame when Montana was inducted. He said he thought it was terrible that all these Hall of Famers were there and fans were having to pay a few hundred $ to meet them and get autographs. He said it should be part of admission to the museum.

Same day, Mean Joe Green signed my Iron City beer can with his picture on it. Nice guy. Limos were lined up to pick-up HoFers, and Joe held everyone up while he signed autographs for 15 minutes, inductee Howie Long's limo was behind Green's and he was getting pissy about having to wait.

High-fived Barry Sanders at Detroit Metro. I saw him coming by me and shouted "BARRY!" he held his hand up, I slapped and he kept going.

Not football related:

Went to high school with tennis pro Todd Martin & ran into him at Sparrow Hospital after he came back from Wimbleton.

NY Yankee Brian Doyle lived with my aunt & uncle during home games, so he didn't have to get a place in the NY area.

I was friends with a girl whose mom was best friends with Magic Johnson's mom. Her mom sat next to Magic's mom in the audience when he was on Oprah after his announcement of having AIDS

My ex-girlfreind and Lance Moore's girlfriend were roomates in 2007 (the year before Colston got hurt and he blew up.) We'd hang out at their house all the time, he is a really nice guy.

My current girlfriend is really good friends with Rob Ninkovich's fiancee and we hang out whenever they are in town.

Also, I work at a popular downtown N.O. bar on the weekends that a lot of current Saints and NFL players come into, but I wouldn't say I'm actually "friends" with any of them besides Moore and Ninkovich. I have given Shockey a few rides home, though.

Sean Considine, FS for the Jags (used to be w/ Philly) is a 2nd cousin of mine. I never met him but my cousins that live in Illinois know him. Also, when I was a kid, Howie Long's wife used to work at the same law firm as my father and he would go to the Xmas parties and stuff... I shook his had a couple times.
I know Sean, great guy. We spent some time on the water this year when he came to visit. Him, his wife and little boy are good people.

I work out at same gym as Tim Hightower in Richmond, VA.

Brother-in-law went to HS w/ Ken Oxendine.

HS Basketball team got our ### beat by Alonzo Mourning's Indian River team in 1987.

We played against Thomas Dale when Oxendine was in HS. Although I was only on JV when we played them.My sister actually went to Thomas Dale with William Henderson the long time FB for the Packers. And my Dad played at VA Tech with Tiki and Ronde's dad. Also, don't like to see my boy Kris Jenkins going down with another knee issue. Hope it's not too serious. He's a good dude.

Kerry Collins spends the offseasons in my hometown of about 15,000 people. He used to come into my dad's gas station and buy cans of dip. He was really nice about 25% of the time and a complete jerk the other 75% of the time. I haven't worked at the store in 5-6 years though, so I'm not sure if he still comes in.

In all of the times I saw him (probably 50+ times), no one ever recognized him. I did, of course, but as a Panthers fan it was my duty to pretend I didn't know who he was.

Wonder if the good days were when he had been drinking..or the other way around?

I used to play pickup ball with Randy Moss when he was at Marshall. Still friends with one of his close friends.
See a couple people with Moss connections here. Reminded me that I played youth football and am still friends with Doug Chapman, the RB who played with Moss at Marshall and had a few years with the Vikings.

Current players, just Dwight Lowery.

Former players, Johnny Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Reggie Stephens, Femi Ayanbadejo, Brendan Ayanbadejo.

I know Dwayne Gordon. Not really fantasy relevant since he played D in the 90s. But good guy.

For those that don't know him - he played with the Chargers, Falcons, and Jets.
