The DBT became my obsession a few years back and this album is a hidden gem, and one of the three albums from when Jason Isbell was in the band. I had two of their albums make my Top 70 with other finishing at 1,159th.

Those that have participated in music drafts the last year, and read my posts, are as unsurprised to see my lofty ranking of this album as I am that this was a unique album of mine. It was released early 2024 and entered my ears at the right time in my life, a truly life-changing experience. I under-ranked several of them last year because I was unsure if they'd stand the test of time, but aged a year I'm increasingly confident they're sticking.
My play list contribution - the title track, Born (do I need to add), it starts off as a campfire sing-a-long then builds into a blow the doors off rock 'n roll banger
For those that willing to dabble with country I recommend This Too Shall Pass and Few Good Stories
For those not I recommend Thinkin' Bout and One More Sunset
For those about to rock - Long Gone
For those that covet mass consumption - Just To Say We Did and Take Her Home
And for those that want a good cry - Wherever You Are Tonight

I am surprised that I am the only vote for Curtis, but maybe another of Curtis Mayfield’s albums will show up on this list. The Middle-Aged Dummies here probably could have figured that he’d show up high for me (here’s my MAD playlist of my 31 favorite Mayfield songs, ordered 31-1).
Curtis was his first solo album after he left The Impressions. After all of his message songs with The Impressions, this album represented more of his anger about the failures of the civil rights movement, and moved away from some of the soul/R&B sounds of The Impressions to more of a funk sound. Lots of great songs on this album.
I had “(Don’t Worry) If There’s a Hell Below, We’re All Going to Go” (Spotify) #1 in my MAD playlist, and it is still my favorite with the grittier lyrics.
But @KarmaPolice , for the playlist here, I’ll go a bit more uplifting with the chalkier pick of “Move on Up” (Spotify). (ETA: Just added myself.)

I love The White Stripes, and like seeing De Stijl get some love. It was a tough choice which to include, but opted for another one of their albums.

I originally didn't have Houston Texas added to the title, but then added it so it wouldn't screw anything up. That ended up screwing it up.
I left off 1971 at the end of my Live at Massey Hall title. I'm consistently inconsistent.

On this album you'll here guitars, piano, mandolin, banjo, accordion, cello, violin. Biggest single was Superman's Song. It has a really good cover of The Replacements track Androgynous.

Grand Funk was basically a bar band that hit the lottery. At one point in the early '70s, they were selling an album every 3 seconds without having hit singles. Critics hated them. The bass player was the only good musician in the band. Sales started to slow, though, so the record company brought Todd Rundgren in to produce and tone them up some. The result was this album. The title track hit #1 on the pop charts (an almost unthinkable accomplishment for this group a year before). It's their best LP, though there's another I like just as much.

Carbon Leaf's album Indian Summer is excellent and I've seen them a few times in concert...sad to say (for me) that they've tried to become more of a jam band, extending songs to 10-15 minutes or more.
I have never been a fan of jam bands. I know some people love them. Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic, MMJ, etc... but I want to hear the songs I like. Not endless improvising. No shade at people who love that, it just isn't for me.
