Converting VHS tapes to DVD (1 Viewer)

I want to purchase something that can convert vhs tapes to dvd but I don't want to spend over $80. It doesn't even have to play dvd's, as long as it can record onto them. Anyone have any ideas?

DVD burners at costco are in the $100-120 range. That's a little more than you stated but it's very clearly the easiest way to do it.

Anyone still doing this? Gotta be some decent advances in transferring video tape to hard drive/dvd/cloud. I don't even have the video camera anymore - vhs-c tapes and they are somewhere in the attci.

For anyone interested, here are three that have gotten decent reviews, though two of them have so many one stars it is concerning. Seems like it is kind of hit or miss depending on how your pc is equipped and what you are running. If you're lucky, it seems like it may have gotten simpler, but still full of minefields. I hate this #### - really need plug and play.

Panasonic makes some good devices that do this, but they cost at least $150 new. Would have to go the eBay route to get it in the $50 range.

I bought the DMR-ES40V for my dad and had good luck with it. But that was many years ago.

Used one similar to the first one that is more of a box than just the connection cables. The video capture software is pretty much the deciding factor with conversion IMO.

Did it work well? Was it easy to set up and use? What were you running on your pc/mac and what speed processor - icore3, 5 etc.

Think I made a mistake. I used Pinnacle software with a Dazzle box like this: http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/products/dazzle/dvd-recorder-hd/. Wasn't too bad to set up, but editing got tiresome. Pretty easy to use and not super expensive.

Are there private businesses that do this as a service? Vs buying equipment to do it yourself? It's a one time thing, so why invest in equipment you'll only use once?
