Copper Grill Mat (1 Viewer)

I just saw a commercial for a copper grill mat.  Has anyone tried these.  You get the burger gripper/flipper free with it. Tempting.

Great for one time. Trying to clean the thing is a nightmare.  I just threw it away on the spot.

I just tried the Yoshi Grill Mat last week. Picked it up at Home Depot when I was getting a new grill brush.  Grilled some halibut on them. They worked great. Fish had grill marks and taste of being grilled. Turned out great. Mat washed up very easily, like a new non-stick pan.

buddy of mine got one of these, made a FB post after the initial use praising it to the highest of heavens ...

... fast forward a day later, when the NON STOP BARRAGE of curse laden tirades began  :lmao:

Avoid.

with extreme prejudice.

I look at that link and the burgers they have on the right have grill marks on them but they did not get those grill marks on the mat. Look how the grill marks are indented into the meat. That only happens if they are sitting directly on the grill grates, not on a grill mat that is flat. I was able to get a little bit of a grill mark, but not nearly what I could get with the meat right over the coals.

I'll admit, they are probably really good for fish, but so is my fish and veggie grill pan

Yes, I wouldn't trust the advertising.  Just describing my experience and we used it once.  We had great grill marks on the fish , although no indentations, and the fish seemed to cook just fine. The mat didn't seem to affect the heat getting thru to the food.   I don't think I wouldn't use it for meat. A lot of the grill flaover is from the drippings dropping on the coals/heating elements and vaporizing. We usually grill 3-5 times a week.  The grill marks may depend on your grill. We got a new grill (gas) last year also and it can get very hot so I usually preheat it on med-high and then turn it down to low when I put the food on the grill.  I use grill pan similar to your link also for the veggies.

I did the same, I have used it 5 straight days for vegetables, still in good shape and super easy to clean.
