Utter Chaos

The Giants and the Jets are one of the top teams in each conference if not THE top team.

I think it's possible that they could face each other in the Super Bowl

at this point, its no more likely than any other combo of some of the top teams in the AFC (Colts, Jets, Pats, Steelers, Ravens et al (not in any particular order)) or NFC (Giants, Falcons, Eagles, Redskins, et al)

They may be two of the hotter teams right now, but championships aren't won in week 7.

Its a possibility for sure but both teams have to maintain their current momentum through the end of the season. I honestly feel the Giants might have lost against the Cowboys last night were it not for the good fortune of Romo getting knocked out. They are a good team but not head a shoulders above other teams in the conference. Its still a pretty long season and a lot can happen but certainly and all New York Superbowl is in the realm of possibilities.

Highly unlikely, but if this were to happen in Jerry's house it would be the greatest thing ever as a Giants fan next to beating the Pats.

The Jets maybe. I still think the Giants are frauds in terms of being genuine Superbowl contenders. They are a good team, but not great.

The best four or five teams are probably in the AFC.

Food for thought last year the Giants started 5-2 and didnt make the playoffs, that being said they are a much better team this year with the emergence of Nicks, and an actual defense. They have as good as shot as anyone but I think that one of three (NO,GB,Minn) will actually wake up and play to thier potential.

Actually, I think the giants are legit. A team thats a Fraud folds after going down 20-7 last night. They fought back and won against a desperate team. Giants right now are the best team in the NFC.

This is actually the reason why I see it possible that the Giants make it and not the Jets. The Jets have to get through some combo of Baltimore, Indy, KC, Pats, Steelers and Titans. The Giants will have to get through the Eagles, Packers and Bears (all whom need to get healthy by the playoffs), and some combo of the Tampa/Saints/Falcons.I think this is like the NBA in the late 90s/early 2000s, where the easiest road to the finals was in the East. Same thing as whoever makes it through the East, probably only has 1-2 tough games (including the Super Bowl) whereas in the AFC, it will be extremely hard for anyone to make it out of there.

My money is on Atlanta in the NFC. AFC has too many good teams to forecast, so I'll just say that while my money is on Atlanta to win the NFC, the Jets, Ravens, Steelers, Colts, Patriots would beat the Falcons.

:goodposting: From an Eagles Fan.BTW...No way the Giants beat a Powerhouse Undefeated Patriots Machine in Superbowl XLII

Okay, but what team in the NFC is great? I would agree that the Jets are a better team right now, but the Giants are more likely to be the NY team to make it to the Super Bowl simply because the AFC will be much, much harder to get out of. Looking at the Giants schedule, 11-5 and home field is definitely doable. 11-5 in the AFC East will only get you a wild card spot, most likely.

Right now the Jets and Giants look like thery're headed towards the playoffs. As it is said anything can happen on "any given Sunday" in the NFL. It is quite possible they could meet in the SB but the probability is that they won't. Still, there is no reason to believe that NY/NJ won't have 2 teams in the SB. There is not one team that is head and shoulders better in either division.

As a fan of both the Giants and Jets, that would be a dream matchup. Can it happen? Definately. Will it happen? Not very likely. Even if you consider the Jets and Giants as the best teams in their Conference, the odds are that neither team gets to the Finals. The same goes for any team regarded as the best team. With parity as it is in the NFL, any team making it to the playoffs can beat any other. Even if it is 60/40 in each of the two home games the Jets/Giants would play (assuming they have the best record in their Conference), the odds are still much less than 50/50 that they each make it to the finals.

the NFC is so wide open.To me the team to beat in the AFC is Pitt.
I would agree. I think Pitt is the best team in the NFL right now, despite their narrow victory. I think the Jets are likely the better team, but the Giants may have an easier road to the show.ETA: Sweet Love beat me to it.

This is impossible........

Actually, I think the Giants chances are better than the Jets of making it. The fact is, there just aren't that many very good teams in the NFC. Many of the good ones are inconsistant or have major weaknesses. Atlanta and the Giants are probably the top 2. I mean, who are they going to play in their first playoff games? The Packers? The Seahawks? The Bears? Philly? I really don't see how the Giants and Falcons don't face each other in the NFC title game.

On the other hand, the number of very good AFC teams is simply too big to presume the Jets make it. You've got Pittsburgh, Indy, New England, Tennessee is playing well, heck, even Houston and the Chiefs are looking good. (The Chiefs defense is legit). I just think the probability that the Jets make it out of the AFC is so much smaller than the Giants making it out of the NFC, that the chances are remote.

Figured I'd catch something for that. There was a thread a while back about NY fans and how they viewed the NY (NJ) football teams and NY sport teams in general. I was born in 1960, so became a Met and Jet fan, but my father's only sport team was the Giants. Therefore, although I only root for the Mets, Rangers and Knicks, I also go for the Jets and Giants. If both made it to the Superbowl, I'd be one happy camper. Can't say what team I'd push for.

I think its a 50-50 shot.....although only a 10% chance of that....

As a Giants fan I hope so. Would be a civil war here in NY. I doubt it will happen though. I must admit the Jets are the better team but they have a much harder road to the SB as others have pointed out.

As far as I'm concerned there's one team that is playing far better than the rest. The Steelers. Quality run game? check. Elite QB? check. Top notch defense? check.

Everybody else lacks at least one of those attributes.

Pitt D is going to struggle against any team that can spread them out & throw the ball. Back on topic... Surely one of our stats nerds can figure out the odds of a NY/NY superbowl.

No it is not. I am the biggest Jets fan I know. My sundays and overall football season worth of fun lives and dies with the outcome of Jets games. With that being said though, I still like the Giants and the only time I'd ever root against the Giants is if they are playing the Jets.
