Cowher joins CBS gameday crew. (1 Viewer)

Looks like he's taking that time-honored next step for ex-coaches before getting back into the game full-time.

Not sure how that = fraud. Seems like a random thing to say.

Get your waders out should that lineup ever interview John Clayton.

Wasnt he taking time off to spend with the family? He jumps at the first job that comes along. Tired of his family already? Only so many girls basketball and volleyball games that he can attend. Wow, that lasted a long time.
So, you think that being a Sunday Analyst takes as much time as being a NFL Head Coach?
seriously. he takes the morning flight from R-D and can be in the studio before the opening credits...

Im just happy hes not coaching in Cleveland, Cowher is a great guy, itd be a shame to lose him. As for broadcasting, def. not even close to the committment of HC. I said earlier that seeing him coach anywhere else would be very awkward but I wish the man well. Thanks for XL. I cant wait to hear how he turns out as an announcer.

I honestly think he wants to get back into coaching in a year or two, and I'm afraid that will make him a horrible analyst. All the players are great, all the coaches are great, blah, blah, blah, so he won't be on anybody's #### list when he goes back in.

I can't believe Mumblemouth kept his gig, what a dope.

This will be a case of too many

cooks in the kitchen.

I'll stick with the ESPN boys.

Most people didn't think Bradshaw would be any good and he's done alright for himself. I think Cowher will be fine in the studio.
Bradshaw's good? When did that happen?
He said he has done alright for himself, not that he was good. Whether he is good or not is pretty irrelevant. He has lasted a long time on the Fox show, that alone makes his stint a success.
He's better than plenty of other guys who "grace" the studios of those programs. That being said - I'm not much of a Bradshaw fan myself.

Of course not but it certainly seems like he didnt spend much time "at home" before lining up his next gig.Like CBS needed another voice with Shannon Sharpe shouting unintelligible remarks over everyone else.

I certainly am not knocking Cowher's decision - that's his business - but there's a little more to being a gameday studio analyst than commuting to NYC once a week.

But you'd admit it's much less work than being an NFL head coach right?Besides that he wouldn't even start till the end of August at the earliest - 6 months from now.Tell me who wouldn't need a break from their family after 6 months of doing nothing.

Like I said, not being critical, and yes it's certainly less work than the head coaching job.

Probabaly 1/20th of the time. For an NFL coach, that is.And certainly way easier on the psyche away from the work enviroment/desk (Ive reported and coached).

I'm sure Cowher was going to be keeping up with the everyday events of the league anyhow. I highly doubt the job will require much more than he was going to be doing anyways, other than flying to NY once a week.

Pretty damn good point. Using your family as an excuse to quit a job you don't want anymore is pretty weak.

It amazes me at what people criticize around here. He said he wanted to spend some more time at home and to be able to watch his girls play basketball. This job will allow him to do both and his former job didn't allow him to do either.Sorry Bill Cowher isn't living his life to your expectations.

Seriously. Come on, guys, Capella said it already, but.. he was going to be keeping abreast of everything that's going on in the league - he already said so. He loves the game. Flying from his home once a week to do a studio show on Sundays is infinitely different than living in another state and working 16 hours a day year round to prep a football team. It wasn't a matter of using his family to quit a job he didn't want. If he still wanted to coach, he could have gone to Atlanta, Miami, Oakland, etc. You don't think those teams wouldn't have jumped at the opportunity to replace an outgoing coach with a future HOFer? Please. He could have gotten whatever money he wanted. He wants to live with his family for the next two years until his youngest daughter goes to college. If he spends one day a week doing a studio show, that isn't going to change anything. Getting away from the grind of coaching a team and having the ability to live in NC with his family is what he wanted.

It takes more than that to be an analyst. There will be show prep to do with the other analysts, etc. That said, he could probably do most of that stuff via confernce call.

Isn't he under contract for this year? It's not like some other team could have just signed him to be their coach without providing the Stillers with some compensation.

No matter how long it takes, it's not going to be remotely close to the time it takes to be a head coach in the NFL.

Your point being? Look what the Bucs coughed up to get Gruden in the fold, or what the Jets forked over for Parcells.. you don't think another team would be willing to part with some draft picks to get Cowher?

I've got no dog in this fight, I'm just calling it like I see it. Whatever. Hope he and Boomer become real good buddies.
