Crazy Baltimore Raven trade scenarios (1 Viewer)

First off, let me say that I don't even pretend to understand all the rules of the salary cap, so forgive me if this is impossible....

The Ravens clearly have the defense to contend for a title, but their offense lacks spunk. Even with bringing in McNair, they were still way too conservative and lifeless, especially in the playoffs. These trades would change that. This would definitely leave them in a high risk situation with a lot of volitile personalities on their team, but I'm tired of boring offense.

Trade #1: Steve McNair, Jamal Lewis, Derrick Mason to Falcons for Mike Vick.

While they won't come out and say it because it'll hurt his trade value, the Falcons don't want Vick. They want Schaub to be the QB of the future. Bringing in McNair will give Schaub a great mentor for maybe 1-2 more years and then its his show. Even in his old age, Mason gives them the best WR they've had in years(which isn't saying much). Jamal Lewis still has a few years left and gives them a real nice RBBC with multiple strengths.

Trade #2: Combo of draft picks that does not include this years' #1 to Raiders for Randy Moss.

I have no clue what Moss' trade value is right now, so its difficult for me to assess this part. However, I have to think that the Raiders are looking to get rid of him, and I have to think that they want depth so draft picks are enticing to them, and I have to think that hes as cheap now as hes ever been. Maybe something like a 2nd and 3rd rounder this year and a 2nd rounder next year?

Trade #3: Trade up and draft Marshawn Lynch.

The Ravens have the 29th pick, and Lynch has been projected to go 15-25 range. Perhaps the Ravens give their pick this year and next years' 1st as well.

That leaves them with a skill position core of:

QB: Vick, Boller

RB: Lynch, Smith

WR: Moss, Clayton

TE: Heap

Maybe if the Raiders didn't like that offer, we could even include Boller in the trade and pick up a cheap veteran to play backup, although thats a dangerous option with Vick as your starter.

They'd have few other draft picks this year and potentially next year after giving those up in these deals, but I think that its worth it to make the team a contender immediately. I realize that this is far fetched, but are any of these deals really that impossible?

Baltimore can easily get Lynch if they choose to. He'll probably be there at 29, but they could make a move up if they need to for a 2nd round pick or less.Moss is attainable, but for a much, much cheaper price than you have listed. He might even be released at some point. Dont know why youd want the Ravens to take on his contract though, given how his production and attitude have fallen off.

The first trade scenario is absolutely ridiculous for many reasons, but especially so given Jamal Lewis is a UFA.

Ok, so since the last two trades are much easier than I thought and the first one is tougher, then maybe whatever they'd "save" by giving up less in the last two they could add on to the first one to get Vick?I want Moss because I still think he has something left. If you pair him with Clayton and Heap, a huge weakness all of a sudden looks like a strength. But I've always been a Moss fan, so maybe thats clouding my judgymentalnessie.

Sorry I was unclear. Its not that McNair and Mason + whatever theyd save from the other two deals isnt enough "value" for Vick...its that neither team would be able to handle the caponomics of dealing those players.

although technically Jamal isn't a UFA, he will be once he's released.
True...but for the purposes of what AF is talking about, hes a FA. ATL isnt going to take on Lewis' $5mil roster bonus and $10mil salary for next year.He signed a one year deal that was 3 years long.

While they won't come out and say it because it'll hurt his trade value, the Falcons don't want Vick. They want Schaub to be the QB of the future.
:ninja: I don't believe this for a second. The Falcons definitely want Vick, and they want to keep Schaub around as a reliable back-up unless they get overwhelmed with a 1st or high 2nd round offer for him.The Falcons don't want Vick? That's a good one.

I too believe the Faclons want Schaub over Vick but the shareholders (fans) wouldn't approve. I'd sell that team. They're in a no win situation.

I'm a huge Vick supporter. I think hes one of the best QBs in the league(not pure throwing QBs, but overall skillset which including rushing ability). But I think that the Falcons don't like problem players. They value character perhaps more than any other team. They love Schaub. There are tons of rumors of them looking to shop Vick. Its not that far of a stretch to conclude that they'd rather trade Vick for good value and go with Schaub.

If Vick is traded, there is a cap implication that is MASSIVE - like $22M.

There is no way Vick isn't a Falcon this year. 2008 is a different story.

As for Moss, that'd be a tough sell to the team but I believe Billick has coached Moss before. Still, I think they like Mason, Clayton and Demetrius Williams to go with Heap.

M. Lynch is the best scenario you put forth.

Mcnair, Jamal Lewis and Derick Mason have little to no trade value

They love Schaub? As an above average back-up, sure. As Vick's replacement? I don't think so. RE: valuing character more than any other organization -- not only did Vick get cleared of charges, but there ended up being no residue in the water bottle. Whether we believe that or not, those are the final facts from the "incident." If the organization valued character so much, they wouldn't be running "Big Hat, No Cattle" DeAngelo Hall out at CB every week. That guy's mouth is a continual embarrassment to the organization. Is Vick?

Not only is Vick not going to be traded, but I think he's THE #1 must-get buy low dynasty property this offseason.
