Culpepper to the Colts? (1 Viewer)

dotman

Think about it, The Dolphins wouldn't want to trade him there, so CPep has to force his release to go. Peyton Manning has been an iron man, but they could be screwed if he got hurt. What has him Sorgi ever done? And if there was some freak injury CPep could step in and put up big numbers. Maybe get some PT late in the year if they clinch.

Anyone think there's a chance of this? Or is it crazy?

Cpepp probably wants to you know, PLAY football. Probably the worst spot ever for him to end up.The Colts will offer him the most money? They have no cap room.So besides it's impossible, and neither side would want to do it, I could see it happening.

I think IND regards Peyton as an Iron Man, and won't waste time on a solid backup. If he goes down, they go down... simple as that.

On the rare occasions that he has been called upon to play, Jim Sorgi has done just fine. Obviously, those of us on the outside don't have much information to base an opinion on, but the Colts coaching staff does and they seem comfortable with him. That's good enough for me.

Soooo.... Culpepper is going to pass up the backup job to Trent Green, one of the most unlikely QBs in the NFL to get through the entire season without being hurt or failing because of his age, to back up Peyton Manning. Are we just assuming he doesn't like playing football anymore?

Yeah, let's see

One of the most cerebral offenses in football run by probably the smartest QB.

Back-ups gonna be a guy who's knock on him is his inability to read a defense.

Don't think so.

How about CPep to the Falcons?

I think Vick is going to busy building his defense for the Dog Fighting racket. And Joey H certainly isn't the answer

There is no reason to. It will never happen.

Yup. And he's likely to get hurt again if he takes a big hit. That's my point.

Since when did Culpepper pass on the back up job. The Dolphins can't afford to pay him that much as a back up. And do we know that he will be healthy enough to start early in the season somewhere else? Atlanta is the only place that makes real sense but Vick's contract is huge too and he may be gone for a season but I can't see them cutting him outright. It never hurts to think outside the box, I mean no one said the Eagles would take a QB with their first pick in the draft. But it happened. I never said it was a lock.

If he leaves the Dolphins job, he'll go somewhere where he has a chance to start. It might not be a lock, be he's certainly not going to a place where he has no chance to overtake the starter. Like Indy, for instance.

No freakin way will CPep take the vet minimum.
He is coming off of a major injury...he is unlikely to sign long term...he will not be a starter...why would anyone pay him much if anything over the minimum? He has to prove himself all over again.

There was some other writer speculating on this, so it isn't just dotman - but it still makes no sense. If the Colts had no faith in Jim Sorgi and wanted an "experienced" backup with playoff experience, they would have kept Shaun King last year.

If I'm CPep, I make a list of teams that might have starting jobs opening soon, or where I can get PT.

After I get past the first 30 or so teams, I might get to Indy - depending whether I think Brady or Manning is gone first, and which teams values their guy more.

The fish are going to trade him or cut him - he didn't turn anything down.... They won't even let him practice.SMART move by CPep to announce the intent to Trade Block - it forces his release and lets him negotiate as a UFA.

This is laughable. What has Sorgi done? Absolutely Nothing! I wonder why.... If Colts Iron Man gets hurt, why would they want to rely on a guy whos washed up and knees are made of chipped ham (Culpepper). Sorgi can probably be a capable backup, but who knows.

Maybe the coaches, since they see him practice every day. If they didn't have confidence they would have likely grabbed an experienced QB to be the backup.

That would suck being Dungy having to figure out who to start every week. It's one of those situations where whoever you bench is going to BLOW up that week, lol.
