I don't know where to stand on this. It seems like a croc to buy some time to see if the big money guy can't straighten himself out while they look at Porciello maybe, but you'd have to think they'd cook up a phantom groin strain or something.

And then if he's really having anxiety problems, is being public with it going to help him when he's got to deal with fans on the road? But then on yet ANOTHER hand, I sort of admire his and the team's openness and this progressive step to treat this problem in the open instead of burying it like I"m sure so frequently happens.

But it does seems strange, I can't recall anyone else going on the dL with this.

They were just looking for any kind of excuse to DL him because they have no idea what to do with him. You can't put a guy in the rotation that is going to put up a 9+ ERA and you are just wasting everyone's time pitching that expensive of player in the minors.

Anxiety disorders are real.
Just to be clear, I don't question this, I just question this particular diagnosis potentially.
I don't know. He used to have decent stuff. He appears to be a genuinely nice guy and now he's getting lit up like a homecoming bonfire. Understandable to me.
Yeah, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he turns it around. It's got to be terrible to stand in the middle of the diamond in front of 40000 people and get lit up repeatedly.

If he would have stayed with the marlins, it could have just been 4000.

Willis has gone from 22-game winner for Florida in 2005 to 24 major league innings for Detroit in 2008. He walked 35 batters in those 24 innings. In his first 8 2/3 spring innings, Willis allowed 17 hits with seven walks for an ERA of 12.46. The Tigers only owe him $22 million over the next two seasons.

Straight up trade for Zito right now

He started going downhill at supersonic speed as soon as he started fiddling with his leg kick in his delivery. I think some of his early stats came the same way Ziegler's did last season, batters were just thrown off by the uncommon delivery method which helped amplify his stats. At this point, I don't think there is any coming back for Willis from mediocrity. He has been working on emphasizing the kick again based on reports I've read lately, but I think once you lose that advantage, you have very little chance of getting it back.

If he is finished, he's had an eventful career. He'll leave the game with a World Series ring, a RoY award, a 22-win season, about $25M and a mother who really loves him.

Dude could rake. Maybe he'll pull an Ankiel here. He had much better hitting stats than Ankiel did while Ankiel attempted to pitch.

Willis had a WHIP of 2.25 last year. I the spring this year it is even higher.

I got some info today. The Tiger are going to try to collect the insurance on Ds contract by claiming he has a disorder and can`t pitch again.

The Tigers would love some mediocrity from Willis right now. With the offense they've got, a 4.50 ERA innings eater at the back of the rotation would be a valuable thing. The walk machine they currently have doesn't do anything except collect paychecks.
