Damian Williams upside in 2011? (1 Viewer)

News out of Tennessee is that Damian Williams will start across from Washington in place of the injured Britt.

How do other evaluate his ceiling and floor this year?

He will be playing with a pretty good QB in Hasselbeck. He will have limited competition for looks--Washington is ok but no superstar. The Offense historically has run through Chris Johnson, but they haven't been able to rely as much on him this year so they need to pass.

What kind of numbers are people expecting? Is he startable this week or do we have to wait a week to see?

I don't think he has much fantasy value for now. I see Cook getting a big increase in looks.
Could you or someone else explain why? Has Cook been getting open but Hasselbeck has just been focussed on Britt? Or has he been used more in a blocking role but now you expect him to be used more as a receiver? I know people rated him as a break out TE this year but I wasn't sure why. I don't see TN play much but his statistical production has not been great. I know the old Titans under Fisher used to target the TE alot; does the new OC?Thanks.

I can't help but think that we're putting too much attention on Cook and not enough on Williams! The kid has some talent and they ultimately drafted him to be the #2 opposite Britt.

I've had my eye on him since the beginning of the year. I was disappointed with his start to the season, but now the opportunity is there. I haven't seen enough of him to know what kind of route running he has, but this guy made some explosive plays in college. If he can put himself in the right spot at the right time, Hasselbeck will make him a star.

The scouting report on him is that he is a very good route runner with good hands and size. Isn't the fastest guy but he has similar speed to Stevie Johnson. With teams keying on the run and opposing defenses worrying more about Washington there is opportunity here.

I don't know his measurables, and granted it was only in college, but he looked extremely quick at USC. Maybe he's a guy that has more football speed than track speed? If he really is a good route runner, I see big things in his future. This could be one of those breakout situations everyone is looking for.

Every time I hear about this guy I keep remembering the person in the LA Riots who brained truck driver Reginald Denny with a brick was named Damien "Football" Williams and LMAO.

The FF community as a whole is usually myopic. We key on certain players despite their actual production on the field. Cook isn't even STARTING, yet his name comes up time after time in thread after thread - Cook has done NOTHING this year . . .

Good post. Between Hasselbeck's history in the league and throwing to tight ends, and Cook's short history in the NFL, what leads people to think Cook is suddenly going to step up and produce? It's not like there was an all pro tight end starting instead of him. A WR got hurt. I expect a WR to step up. Will it be Williams? Hawkins? Someone else? I'm not sure, but what I am sure of is what I saw from Williams in college. He showed great play making ability and even better hands. If he knows the playbook, and runs good routes, watch out. This could be the perfect storm for production and a breakout. I guess we'll find out this Sunday.

Thank you.... that is solid reasoning. While I like Cook, I don't see him taking advantage of the situation. With Nate Washington drawing the top DB, Williams could be in for a good stretch. Will he capitalize?

I pick up Damian Williams off WW this week (lost B Edwards, Maclin & M Austin).... torn on the starting him over David Nelson or Chris Cooley.
