I was in discussion with a fellow owner when he told me that Damon Huard was a young QB. I replied that he was 34 but the other owner said that he was young in the sense that it's his first starting gig.
So that brought up this question, what his Huard's dynasty value?
Even in deep leagues he is barely rosterable. Not only does he have age going against him, but also if the KC reports I am reading are correct, it is Brody Croyle's job to lose versus a fair competition. Even if wins, Huard is a one year starter who is a bad game or .500 or worse record from the Chiefs just seeing what they have in Croyle anyway.
Only example I could give of another QB breaking out at that age would be another KC guy named Rich Gannon. KC let him walk to OAK at this exact same age, and he has three All-Pro seasons. That is the reason some KC people like me think Huard should start from day 1 this season...because this time, we actually ante'd up and re-signed the 34-year-old journeyman QB and we did not in 1999.
He doesn't have much value, but he is QB #3 on my roster behind Palmer and Kitna.
I figure at this point I would stash him away hoping that he breaks out like Gannon did, but he probably won't. If he struggles, is benched, or is just not that good, I will cut him early in the season to pick up my bye week kicker.
I thought Huard was rock solid last year, and really don't see why they are in such a hurry to put him on the bench. I thought at the very least he earned the right to have to be beaten out for the job.

Huard is more or less equal to Kerry Collins at this point. I have weak QBs, meaning guys like Campbell and Jackson so I am looking for any port in the storm.
Huard looked surprisingly sharp on Sunday. Unlike Croyle, he can actually utilize his weapons -- i.e. Bowe and Gonzalez.
However, if your league penalizes INTs and fumbles, avoid him completely. To balance his occassional good play or score, he throws some of the dumbest INTs you'll ever see. Case in point: Sunday he leads KC down the field and tosses a TD. Next drive KC forces a three-and-out, and Huard comes back after that to throw a ball into triple coverage which was easily picked off. D'oh!
He's definitely good for Gonzalez/Bowe owners. He forces the ball to those guys regardless of coverage.
IMO, if Huard has the team winning, KC will be forced to stay with him for fear of losing the fan base. The only Brodie Croyle supporters left are the KC brass.
