Darren Sproles (1 Viewer)

the spanker

SD seems to be losing faithe in Mathews in my opinion. I watched the game last week against the Pats and all the Chargers did was go pass heavy abandoning the run. I don't even remember Tolbert being in the game at all. Are there factors I'm overlooking here? Was this a special case of the Pats getting the jump on SD? I can't remember because I was watching several games off and on.

What's everyone's view of Sproles production moving forward? This guy has caught 15 passes in the last three weeks.

The Pats had a 17-point lead before the Chargers touched the ball in the second half. That had a lot to do with why Sproles played pretty much the whole second half instead of Mathews.

Still, Sproles should continue to have a decent role in the passing offense as long as the WRs and Gates are so banged up.

Thanks I couldn't remember how the flow of that game went but it seems Sproles may be more instrumental in the offense going forward:Rotoword - Updated Oct. 24: Darren Sproles rushed two times for seven yards and added nine catches for 70 yards in Sunday's loss to the Patriots. The Chargers' fans and media have been calling for Sproles to get more touches, and this is why. With San Diego giving up on the run without a fight, Sproles can make people miss out the backfield in this pass-heavy offense. He has 15 catches in the last three weeks. Is Sproles a RB2 in PPR going forward? Like you said Gates and the WRs are banged up so how much does this boost him going forward?

I don't think he's a #2, at best he's a decent #3/flex. I wouldn't want to trot him out as a starter on a consistent basis even if he is catching a few passes -- I think those receptions will drop a bit in the next couple of weeks as others get healthy/come back from suspension. Then he may be an afterthought like he was to start the season.

But Mathews just doesn't seem to be able to avoid getting nicked up. Between the ankle and elbow he's just a mess. If Mathews sits some games then Sproels could get some decent yardage.

Sproles never has been a great runner other in a COP role -- he has has 2 or 3 good days as a runner in his career - he is a decent #3 though if they continue to be nicked up as he is an explosive player taking short passes long.

What about in return leagues? He's still returning punts and kicks. In PPR does this make him a #2RB?

If so, is he a high or low #2?

Even in return leagues he has disappointed all year long until Week 7 when he got active in the passing game. It's just one week and I wouldn't bet on it to continue on a regular basis.

Sproles has never changed. The fans he has have altered their excitement over his play and thus went a little nuts for him in FF a while ago, but he's still the same. He's an exciting little bugger that if given the opportunity could either be squashed or make a big play.

Everyone that plays FF knows there's a big risk/reward to planning on getting a big play from one of your starters.

He's had 4 productive weeks in return yardage ppr actually, and as long as the SD receivers are banged up, I'd keep him in.

Gents what's the verdict. Another strong performance for Sproles.

Neither Tolbert or Mathews look like they can nail down the job resulting in Rivers continiuing to air it out.

In PPR he look to me like he's a low end #2 RB. In return PPR leagues, a solid #2 RB.

I'm playing the Rivers owner this week so I'm strongly considering starting Sproles as my RB2.

It's not even a PPR league but I think Sproles may very well get 100+ yards of Rivers' passing yardage this week. I have Tolbert too but think Sproles could even be the better play this week - maybe not as safe a play as Tolbert but more upside for a long distance TD.

(FFChamps) The San Diego Chargers will likely be without Running Back, Ryan Mathews (ankle), for the Monday Night game against the Broncos according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. Mathews re-injured his ankle during the team's Week 9 win over the Texans. He did not practice this week.Analysis: If Mathews cant play on Monday, Mike Tolbert will be a solid RB2 for your Fantasy squad considering the Broncos ranked 30th when it comes to stopping the rush. Darren Sproles would be a decent Flex play if you are in a PPR league.
Sproles looking like a decent start this week
