This prob means little to anybody but I love throwing darts mainly cricket.  Discovered it a few years back and have a pretty good setup in garage. been playing steadily for the past few years.

I have dominated all in my hood except one guy.  This guy grew up on darts and played religiously growing up and it showed.  He was schooled and had natural ability.  We have played multiple times and he always won.

Until tonight.  I beat him 2 out of three and kicked his ### the last game.  So satisfying. Just wanted to gloat a bit.

I LOVE darts.  I used to carry around a couple of sets. Multiple flights and tips in my car just in case.  For a while I had a cheapo soft tip board at home. Big hit at parties.

Yep!

As a KY weirdo survivalist, the very front pocket of my "breaking if bad comes" backpack contains 3 dart sets.

1) Typical old school metal tipped dart set with multiple replacement flights

2) Back-up to set for #1

3) A set of "goood" plastic tips darts for when I have to compete in the....eh...not politically correct to say anymore... :(

Ok. Since every one has asked...I'll tell my great dart story.

My dad had this rec room/ bar in his house.  The previous owner had built it. Basically looked like a miniature 1970s dive bar.

About 1983 some old friends (a couple and their kids) of my step mom's came to visit for a few weeks. They were from the U.K.  The male component of this couple, as a thank you gift, gave my dad this beautiful feather/regulation dartboard and all the fixings to hang in his rec room.

Dad let it sit for a few weeks.  I was about 16 at the time. I went to the local library and did some research. I then set up the board and chalkboard in the rec room. Then I taught myself to play.  The dartboard was right next to my dad's awesome stereo.  So while I was making tapes and crap I would play darts.

Fast forward a couple of years and I went to the U.K. as my "senior trip" after HS. I spent about a week with same said family. One night I went to a pub with one of daughters and all her friends.  We were all about 18-20. Somebody suggests we play "Killer" (great dart game, look it up).

So there were like 12 of us playing. Daughter says "don't fell bad if you get knocked out early...Nigel over there is the reigning junior pub champ",

Well, much to their limey surprise, I took Nigel down to the last dart.  He won but none of those royalist bastards knew what hit them.

My favorite set of flights had James Cagney on them with the caption "Dirty Rats". Made no sense at all but loved them.

My current favorite set is a a copy of the British Lion crest.

Too bad bad I can't find some squirrel head sets...I'd rock those bad boys till their tails rotted!
My buddy and I would joke about my Dirty Rats. Each one would have a name, like some stupid medieval sword.

The name-taker

The heart-breaker

The money-maker

We get it on TV here(Canada) all the time.  Pretty much every day between 10 and noon.  It is fantastic tv.  I can't get enough.

That sounds awesome man. It always feels good to develops a skill and beat the old timers.

I was going to type a similiar anecdote but I don't want to hijack the thread.

Keep waxing him til til he gives up darts.

Moved to a neighborhood in Reno backinaday where the nearest bar was a dart bar. Knew much less about it than you'd think a Boston Irishman would, but my heritage musta kicked in or sumn and the magic combo of meth/jager/cricket consumed much of my last few years in Nevada.

Anybody have a specific brand of dart they run with?

I have been using a heavier dart I got off Amazon who's name escapes me.  They weren't cheap.  Like 15 or 20 bucks for three.  Good darts though.  But I'm down to try something different if anyone has a suggestion.

I've got pretty decent game.  I used to play a bunch many years ago.  I never bothered to hang my board up in the house we moved into 13 yrs ago.  One of my kids saw an old board in our storage room about 3 months ago and he got curious. So, I hung it up and have been playing again recently with the kids.  They are amazed at how "good" I am, which compared to them is true.  They were much less impressed with my game after we watched the most recent World Championship on TV.

I just got a nice set of Winmau darts...if $15-20 isn't cheap, these were really expensive.  I'll be honest, I can't tell much of a difference in expensive vs. average darts, but I liked the way the ones I got looked.  I used to play A LOT when I was in my 20's, then stopped. I tend to play 23g.  I've got 2 sets at 23, and 2 sets at 21g.  I like a little texturing on an otherwise straight dart.

Just finished building my dart board surround and scoreboard for my basement a month or so ago and I've started tossing some for fun again.  Nobody to play against regularly, but I still basically play cricket and just see how quickly I can clear the board.

The ones I have are harrows voodoo brass tip at 25 g.  Just looked up some winmau darts.   Wow.

I have the lastest winmau board so I know their quality is top notch but not sure I can spend 70 bucks on a few darts.

I love the heavier darts....the cheap ones that they throw in with the board are so bad.

Yeah its cool if you can create a circle of dart buddies to play. I am up to about 5 guys in my neighborhood that come by to shoot and drink some beer on the reg.  But i throw by myself alot.  Great practice.

I love darts. I used to play every weekend with friends for probably 3 years. Now I rarely play, but still really enjoy it when I do. We always played Cricket. At one point I was really good, but kind of lost it now because I don't play that often, it used to be really fun to beat up on people at a bar who thought they were good. Was always an easy way to get a free drink.

Have a dart board in my garage. I would consider myself a 3-9 beer player. Anything between 3 and 9 beers I am awesome. Before or after - terrible.

A few years ago, I'm sitting out there with a couple of my neighbors drinking some beers, and decide we want to play darts. We needed a 4th so we could play teams, so one of my neighbors called another guy who lived a couple blocks away who I hadn't met yet.

He rolls up, and he is one of these dudes who brings his own darts...the whole bit.

He comes in talking about how he used to be in the military stationed over in England. Starts bragging about how he would go in and just wax the English boys at the pubs at their own game. Blah, blah, blah.....Keep in mind this was the first time I had ever met this guy.

So after about 5 minutes of the talk, he says this: "Man, I could beat the English but I could never beat the Irish. The more they drank the better they played."

So I look at him and say: "Well, you're fooked then, because I'm Irish."

So me and my one neighbor completely waxed the other two for 3 straight games of cricket. We were both pretty drunk and just played lights out - we were hitting triples all over the place. It was glorious. We still laugh about that today, watching him wave the white flag.

That's funny as hell

I grew up playing on American Style dartboards with wooden darts (we sharpened them with a raw potato) and the game we played was "baseball".  Always thought this was the norm. Later in life, I discovered most people hate these boards (and the wooden darts) and no one knows how to play baseball.

If you're playing steel tip darts, I would suggest using hammerheads https://www.houzz.com/photos/38285491/Bottelsen-Hammer-Head-Original-204E-Black-Steal-20-Gram-Dart-contemporary-darts-and-dartboards

Honestly, once you get a good set of darts, you'll just need to buy flights and tips ever again.  Heavier doesn't necessarily mean better.

Cricket is a fun game to play, as it's universally known, but honestly 301 or 501 DI/DO are much superior games which will increase your skill much faster.  Only downside is once you get good enough, no casual player will want to play against you any longer.  I actually prefer playing mickey mouse (http://www.teachdart.com/darts-games-teach-dart/how-to-play-mickey-mouse-darts-game.html) instead of cricket as it's a bit longer (and more difficult game as you have to shoot for numbers you aren't accustomed to throwing).
