Dash cam video of police running over suspect...BOOM (1 Viewer)

Or perhaps they could have used their superior numbers to corner him and stop the obviously mentally Ill person without trying to kill him. Nah run him over or shoot him were the only options. No one has tasers or pepper spray on them.
That would put the officers at risk.

And if there's one thing we know about modern cops, it's that their own safety is paramount.
Right? Cops can be so selfish sometimes.

Just completely bonkers that the police actually argue this was proper.
So how do you handle a guy walking towards a populated area shooting a rifle into the air?
You get out of the car and shoot him. Hitting him with a car is just excessive force. He could have killed him.
Yeah, shoot him, because, you know, bullets have never been known to like, kill people.

It could very well be argued that by ramming the person with his vehicle at the high rate of speed may very well have saved his life. The guy was walking down the street with the barrel of the gun to his chin. The high rate of speed may have caught him off guard and he didn't have time to pull the trigger and blow his head off. Instead, he's now in the hospital rather than a morgue.
I think you missed my sarcasm, GB.

Smart police work. There is a deranged perp walking down the street firing a loaded automatic weapon in heavily populated areas. Without putting himself or civilians at risk he took him out with the safest method available..the police cruiser. As grotesque and incomprehensible this may seem to some it probably saved lives.

Okay. Now imagine that the perp wasn't just injured, but was dragged 20 yards and crushed to death.

Don't fire loaded guns that you just stole from a Walmart, after setting a fire at a church, up in the air while walking towards a populated area and yell at police officers "I'm gonna do it"

Authorities said he drove to a Walmart where he stole a .30-30 rifle and ammunition. He fled the store with Walmart employees in pursuit.
So we've reached the point where an unarmed Walmart loss prevention guy is braver than your average police officer?

You just know GTA officer has been daydreaming his entire career for the chance to be "the hero" and take out an "active shooter."

In pretty much every Western nation in the world (and many others, I'm sure), police would have set up a secure perimeter and handled this like they're trained, equipped, and expected to do. Maybe that ends in the suspect dying in a hail of bullets or killing himself (as he threatened to do when police first confronted him). Maybe it ends in a mentally unstable man in custody and getting treatment and punishment for his crimes. Thanks to Leeroy here, I guess we'll never know.

Okay. Now imagine the police had let him go and he went into that office parking lot and killed 30 people, including mothers and children.

Okay. Now imagine they set up a secure perimeter and a trained hostage negotiator was able to get him to put down his weapon and he was taken into custody without incident.

This game is fun. No matter what, we can always find fault with another person's actions.

Your imagination is so violent.

It's called being a realist. I don't live in a fantasy world of unicorns and gumdrops where violent criminals, who are mentally ill and carrying a loaded rifle "do the right thing" because a uniformed officer told them to.

If there's one thing we've learned from 24, it's that the suspects always get through the perimeter.
