Love this one. I really need to go back and watch the Chris Rock show from start to finish before I weight in here. I feel like I'm biased towards Chappelle because I remember his material better.

For me, Chris Rock has a long and impressive body of work. He is a seasoned Comic, with great standups to his credit as well as plenty of great sketch comedy with SNL and his HBO show. Chappelle may not have any where close to the body of work. But i just think he is funnier. If you ask me who has had the better career, or who has the best body of work. Its Chris Rock. But if i can only watch one of them for the rest of my life? Its Chappelle.

Surprised Chappelle has such a large lead. Is Rock's political/paparazzi stuff playing a factor?
I knock Chris Rock down because of his delivery. Rock constantly repeats himself . . . con-stant-ly re-peats him-self.
If you watch the special with Louis Ck, Jerry Seinfeld and Ricky Gervais, Rock says that he has to establish the premise for a lot of his jokes otherwise the joke goes right over the head of the audience. Smart guys know the premise immediately, but to get to the larger audience he needs to flesh out the premise before he gets to the punchline. In answer to the question, Chappelle's greatest moments exceed that of Rock, but Rock is the far better professional comedian.Who would you rather have Emmitt Smith or Bo Jackson?
:goodposting:Although I disagree about who had the better moments, it's about longevity and depth of character.Being a comic like these two is about writing, producing, acting, stand up, and more. Overall Chris Rocj's work show more talent in all of that overall, even if Chappelle has a few better moments.

No, it's about who's funnier.

I only recently got to see some of the Rock shows. I think Chappelle's show holds up better. But it seems like the Rock show inspired plenty of material and tone for Chappelle's show.

Went to see him for the second show in Detroit last Thursday. He bombed. He seemed drunk. Just sat on his stool asking the crowd what they wanted to talk about.

I like his stand up. But this was a decision on his part to get wasted before the second show. It wasn't him having an off night or the crowd made it so he couldn't perform.

I didn't pay a ton for tickets. I'll get my revenge by not paying to see him again and downloading his specials and albums from free sources.

So Chris Rock wins for me. Though probably the best comic currently in my mind is Lewis C.K. At the beginning of each year he tosses out his previous material and writes new stuff.

Have never watched a lot of stand up but Chapelle show is legendary, all time great sketch show. My generation will tell their grandkids about how funny that show was.

Its absurd.

I realize Chappelle has his issues, but to compare them sketch for sketch, movie for movie, etc. its not even close. Chris Rock leads this by a ton.

just compare # of things they've worked on.

Chappele wrote 9 things (1 tv show, 1 movie)

Chris Rock is a credited writer on 24 (2 tv shows, 3 movies)

Rock is credited 52 times as an actor, Chappelle 23.

But the biggest reason that Chappelle is in the lead? Rock started doing movies like "I Think I Love My Wife", "What to Expect When You're Expecting", "Death at a Funeral", "Madagascar", and "Grown Ups"... Chappelle retired.
:goodposting:

Chappelle's Show was pretty good, but it's not even in In Living Color's class when that show had all the legends on it (Carey, Wayans Brothers in their prime, etc).

Chris Rock, otoh, was the best standup comedian ever, in his prime.

Chappelle is winning this b/c of his sketch stuff, but IMO that should not be a factor in this poll. Rock's stand-up is much better than Dave's, imo, and it really isn't close.

Question just asked who you prefer, not strictly confined to stand-up.
