David Carr did not practice today..... (1 Viewer)

With David Carr not practicing today I am wondering who will start this weekend if not Carr.

Matt Moore is someone I know nothing about. Vinny can't be in shape enough to play an entire game can he? I heard a few soundbites today of him talking about hanging out at the house playing with his kids. Is somebody like that ready to play again?

I'd kinda like to see Matt Moore.

You'll find more here.Undrafted QB from Oregon State. Good throw to KColbert on Sunday (deep ball, 43 yards IIRC).

He looked good in preseason for Dallas.

Scout.com

He looked very sharp in the preseason against scrubs, but that can be said of alot of Qbs that never go anywhere. I wished they would have kept him as a back up to Romo - he could actually throw the ball downfield with some zip (unlike Brad Johnson). Brad's experience and holding on kicks kept him around though...(and holding on kicks CANNOT be underestimated for Cowboys fans).

I think Matt Moore knows if he wants to succeed he needs to get the ball to Steve Smith...I would prefer to have Moore in the game over Carr. When he played well in preseason, he always found guys that could make plays. He recognized who his playmakers were...

He's got all the physical tools. He's very athletic. He can move pretty well and he has an extremely strong arm. He's tall enough, but he's thin as a rail and is prone to injury. He's also a mental midget and a quitter.

Where did you hear that from?

If Carr can't go, should we assume Moore would start, or is there a chance Vinny could get the nod? I know he just joined the team this week, but the AP article seemed to indicate it might be a possibility.

From his mouth. I was able to follow his college career very closely.
So do you think he'll fail in the NFL?

If you followed his college career you would notice that he actually had a very solid senior season. I'm not sure where you think he's a quitter but he led OSU back from a very large deficit in his final bowl game, ending with a win.

Please tell me you didn't attend the University of Oregon.

Physical talent has never been a problem for Matt Moore. His issue has always been between the ears.I think he's a quitter because he quit his team when he wasn't handed a starting job. How do you think he ended up at Oregon St.?

No, I didn't, but what would that have to do with anything?

Moore left the UCLA program and eventually transferred to Oregon State then started as a Junior and Senior. He struggled for the first year and a half, but put it together for the second half of his senior year and pulled the team out of a losing record and into a bowl game. They finished 23rd or 22nd in the final national polling. As others have said, he had a good pre season against the 3rd stringers for what that is worth. I doubt that he is ready to starter but if he sits on the bench for a couple of years (old school style and is mentored) he could be. I watched his college career at OS and can't remember him saying he was a quitter. Maybe he said something to that effect about leaving UCLA, but he did hang in there at OS and finished strong when it really was going bad. Maybe he is another Derrick Anderson in the making.

It depends on what you mean by fail.I definitely believe he has the physical tools to be a successful QB in the NFL. But, so have a lot of QB's that haven't panned out. And, it's not as if scouts had Moore pegged to be a star or even an NFL starter one day. He wasn't drafted.

He quit the team.

I think Matt Moore was the guy that Jaws was going berserk over at the draft, saying whomever got him would be getting a steal. If it's whom I'm thinking of he went on and on about his abilities. Not sure what that's worth though without knowing whom else Jaws has went gaga over.

Cool, that's what I wanted to hear. You'd be amazed at how many negative "scouting reports" that have floated on the board about X_StateU players only later to find out the poster was from UofX and "... and besides anybody from StateU is a blithering idiot! Yeee-Haw!". It clouds the judgment of some and certainly their objectivity and am glad this is not the case in this particular instance. "I was able to follow his college career very closely" sounded like the veiled description of the cross-town rival.

I don't dispute he quit UCLA. You did say you heard that from his mouth. Not saying that it didn't happen, I just haven't seen that verify.

Considering what he has done since then, I personally give him a pass. He could have quit when struggling at OSU, he could have quit after not being drafted and he could have quit after being cut by Dallas.

He told his coach, "I quit." He then proceeded to leave. What more verification do you need? Do you think he just stopped showing up to team meetings and workouts?Anyway, like I said, Moore has great physical gifts. He has a fantastic arm and throws a very nice deep ball.
