David Johnson Controversy in Family League (1 Viewer)

In a family & friends league my uncle dropped David Johnson instead of putting him on IR. I got him off waivers even though I have 11th priority. The league thought it was unfair & forced me to drop him. I dropped him and now they want to randomly assign DJ to a team based on a lottery. Is this fair?

So there's 10 people crying because they didn't pay attention well enough to see that he was dropped and they should put in a waiver?  Boo freaking hoo.  Shame on the uncle for not realizing that he could IR him, and shame on everyone else for not noticing he was dropped.  The fact that you got him 11th just makes it even better.  Absolutely you should get to keep him.

Just because it's a friends and family league, people think "well if one person takes it too seriously then they're ruining the fun for everyone".  No, you played within the rules, just because you're all friends doesn't mean people get to make up new rules as they go along.

I don't see how there is any logical situation that would call for DJ to be stripped from your team and then have a lottery to assign him.  Does that happen to any other player?  What is the difference between the way this took place and any other player that gets dropped?  Take the name out of it and nobody would care.  The system should not change because of people that don't pay attention.

I know it's a friends league but as a friend you should understand that the OP didn't do anything wrong or against the rules.  Pretty terrible ruling.  You need the Commish to step in and bring some sanity.

If he's not on a "can't drop" list then he's fair game.

It would be a different story if you traded him the Rams fourth string RB for David Johnson.  Then it would look like collusion.

But if he's not on the list of can't drop and his owner didn't want to keep him, I say fair game.

Thanks guys! My thoughts exactly! I've even said we should just make DJ someone no one can pick up, so I don't get the big push to lottery him off to someone who wasn't smart enough to grab him ahead of me off waivers! I am actually co-commisioner of the league which frustrates me even more but my co-commish is making the big push to put him in the lottery. Ridiculous! Is there anyway to prevent a player from being picked up in a yahoo league?

I am guessing there would be a way to remove players from the player pool but if there isn't then you can just make a league wide announcement that nobody can pick up DJ.  However, what happens if he comes back at some point?  Making him ineligible seems like almost as terrible of a solution as putting him in a lottery.

I would ask everyone to give you a legitimate reason why he should be taken away from you.  You followed the rules and acquired a player nobody else wanted.  Why should he be taken away and then distributed in a lottery.  What logical reason is there to do this?

Great question Gally! The thing is everyone lost their minds when I got him since they aren't as avid as I am and thought he couldn't be picked up on IR. Sounds silly but its true. As a good faith gesture to my uncle, I dropped him back to waivers so my uncle could pick him up. He chose not to, so he's still on waivers and now everyone except me is saying lets have a night out and put him in a lottery. To me, that's insanely unfair! I have 2nd waiver priority at this point and might just grab him again since the waiver 1 guy doesn't pay attention, but I know I'll get beaten up by my mates. I'm happy to make him untouchable but I'm afraid someone will swoop in and grab him when he returns just to piss me off! I was hoping as co-commish I might be able to make him a no go but I guess not annoyingly!

As a Commish you can just give him back to your Uncle to have place him on IR however it sounds like he doesn't want to do that.  So if that is the case, you shouldn't have to drop him and he should be rightfully yours.  You shouldn't have to waste your #2 waiver priority on him either.

I entirely agree! Just wish yahoo had kept him on the don't cut list! Oh well, guess you live and learn! Thanks Gally!
