David Nelson to have a pulse this week? (1 Viewer)

I'd also say that his lack of production over the past couple games is a function of the type of game that was being played.

In the two previous matchups vs. OAK and NE, the Bills were down fast, forcing them to play catch-up, and giving Nelson more targets. The the past two games vs. CIN and PHI, the Bills were up early and/or in a close game which leads to more touches for Fred Jackson and less for Nelson. Aside from Roosevelt in Sunday's game, everyone's targets have dropped since the OAK and NE games.

Basically it looks like if the Bills are going to be up early on an opponent, it's not going to be a good day for Nelson. If the Bills get down early and stage a come-back, his targets and stats should increase correspondingly.

teams are locking down on the Bills receivers playing man to man, with a robber in the middle of the field taking away the short dumps over the middle, in other words, taking away David Nelson's bread and butter. Defenses have realized with all of the injuries to the Bills WR's they don't have much to be afraid of on the outside.Word out of Buffalo is that they might try and use Nelson outside this week... but we shall see, the guy is a WR in name only. He basically runs TE routes.Search my other posts on Nelson if you guys want more details... I've written 2-3 on him.Bills get a good matchup this week against a injured Giants team that plays mostly cover-2, should be good for Nelson

Do folks think Nelson is a good flex play this week in PPR? I'm optimistic but his arrow seems to be pointing downward, even with the injury to Jones.

I re-watched the BUF-PHI game, and Nelson's role was ridiculous. In the first half, Jackson was pounding the ball and Nelson was relegated to running 6 yards from his slot position and "blocking" DRC. Since Cromartie was making no effort to go to the ball carrier, Nelson just essentially stood in his way. The pass plays they called to Jones before the injury had him crossing into the middle from the right wideout position and a screen.

As Sack-Religious notes, if you think BUF will run effectively and get up early, there's probably not a whole lot of opportunity for Nelson. I'm not sure that's going to happen on the road vs. a PO's Giants team

But as jonramz says, the outside is not his familiar position.

So there is a lot of uncertainty here that I am leaning towards steering away from

Im shocked how high Dodds (WR20) and Bloom (WR18) have Nelson this week, in what Wimer/Bryant call a tough passing matchup for Buffalo, NYG has given up the 2nd least passing TDs.

Any ideas?

Im honestly not even considering him over ABrown or DHB (Haden likely out) with how he's produced the last few weeks

Giants give up the 10th most fantasy points to WRs. May have something to do with it.

I'm strongly considering picking up Roosevelt this week and starting him. That WR slot position has been money for Buffalo for two years now.

I'm doing just that. I imagine this will be another week of Fitzpatrick looking for the short pass, and Roosevelt will be there.

Put up or shut up time ... with his bye coming up, will be dumping him like hot garbage if it's another clunker.

However, I think he gives us owners a glimmer of hope this week ... can see 8-10 targets, some RZ looks ... and a 6/70/1 game on the horizon. Think the G-Men can be had through the air, no question. The move to the outside changes his game dynamic, as he is essentially a glorified TE, but I still hold out hope that he can create enough mismatches with his size.

Last chance saloon, podner ... :banned:

Rode him for a couple of weeks. Time to dump him. 6 targets last week and the bye coming up. Bye, Dave. Was nice knowing ya. :bye:

He was at the end of my bench and probably dropped next week for IDP bye fill ins, but luckily I was able to swing DWill/DHB/DNelson for Decker and Pierre Thomas (I have Ingram). Dont know if he was the reason the trade was accepted, but his FF pts are basically the same as DHB right now so Im just happy I was able to swing him in a trade and free up a bench spot in the process.

People that want to know Nelson's value :shrug:I see him as essentially droppable

I dropped him this week. Nelson's been a 6-8 point per game guy in PPR leagues since his huge game in Week 2. Decent WR5 but no real upside that I can see. The fact that he hasn't become more involved since Jones got hurt has been disappointing. He's a nice player and I'm sure he'll have some good games at times the rest of the season but I don't see much upside there. If 6-8 points per week is what you need I think he's worth keeping on your bench as bye/injury filler. If you need some upside, I think he's very droppable.

You may be right; I expect the Bills to fade some in the 2nd half
