day 3: Lilly, Bannister, Wolf, Richmond (1 Viewer)

I placed third in last week's contest (Malaise got 14th). I'm off to a decent start this week, in 3rd.

I need to choose between Parra and Kershaw for today's game. I could also pick up Halladay (or anyone else) but the cap hit would make me replace either Markakis or Pujols with a substantially lesser player.

I am leaning kershaw because of all the Ks, here is the Pitcher scoring system:

Stats Category Description Points

IP Innings Pitched 7.5

W Wins 20

L Losses -6.5

S Saves 15

K Strikeouts 1.85

HA Hit Allowed -3

BB Walks Issued -1.66

ER Earned Run -6

I've gotten some decent opinions here before and I appreciate it.

Parra

The chances for a Parra meltdown are lower against Florida at home are a lot lower than Kershaw @Philly.

Florida has a weaker line up than the defending world champs as well.

I was high on Parra going into the season, he struggled at first, but hasn't allowed more than 2 ER in his last 3 starts, small sample size, but going the right direction.

Brewers have been hot and playing against a guy fresh from the minors. (Koronka)

If it was me, I would take Parra in a heart beat, and their K ratios are not that far apart, I expect Parra's to be higher than Kershaw's by season end.

How about neither? Parra's walking way too many batters and while Florida's lineup has been struggling they have the potential to get hot quickly. I don't like Kershaw in Philly either, iirc he got lit up last year there too. That said, most of the Phillies are in a bit of a funk right now. If he can minimize damage vs. Utley and Werth he could be in for a good game. If I had to choose I'd go Kershaw but I would do myself a favor and not watch the game.

I have a roster spot open and can buy anyone I want. Who would you most like (for today only, regardless of price)?Halladay? v Yankees at homeWeaver LAD at home v BOS(Both of those have opponents that scare me. Negative points are a killer.)Jimenez at home v weakasAstros. but he's had some really bad outings and plays at Coors...Jarrjens at the Mets - young guy v potent offense on the road...Gallaraga @ Slowey - mehedit to add, because of the +20 for a win, I think Parra may be the most reliable producers of those listed... Kershaw more upside. Definitely Halladay deserves strong consideration- even if it means a downgrade from Markakis to Rios...

Witht he home crowd cheering like this is a world series, I ahd to take Halladay.

That meant swapping Rios for Markakis to fit under the cap, but maybe the crowd will inspire him, too.

Most of all it gives me a reason to watch the game all evening. Its a very interesting matchup with the Jays trying to become :e: , former teammate pitching, etc.

 You were considering Parra or Kershaw over Halladay?
Changing pitchers can cost money and take up cap room- so there are variables in the consideration.I had to spend $8 to buy Halladay and had the other two on my roster. Plus, putting Halladay in the lineup meant I had to sub for either Pujols or Markakais in my lineup to make room under the cap.Sunday I went with the two most seemingly stud SPs : Lincecum and Bedard and their poor performance cost me $600.

Can't beat yourself up for making the right move. Although I'm not so sure Bedard was the right move to begin with...

Halladay for huge points....

Now moving to day 3. I have Cueto for one starter, for the other, I am considering: Lilly, Bannister, Wolf, or Richmond. All are easily affordable, altho Lee does hit the cap pretty hard and will require an offensive downgrade elsewhere.

I'm leaning Lilly. I do not really like him too much, be he is at home and he has been delivering pretty consistently lately.

Tomorrow's decision is just as easy as today's.
A good argument can be made for all three. Lilly appears the obvious choice, but what about Bannister. He's been incredible so far. And if you throw out Richmond's last game...

SighBannister was lucky to produce the numbers that he did in 2007, he regressed to the mean last year. If you want to consider starting him off three good and one bad performance while ignoring what he is be my guest.

Scott Richmond's pitching pretty well right now, but is getting absolutely torched by southpaws, which is what the Yankees lineup is full of.

Wolf is a fly ball pitcher in one of baseball's most HR friendly parks.

Again, tomorrow's decision is just as easy as today's.
