Deadspin has leaks of revenue for many MLB teams (1 Viewer)

If what I read on Draysbay was accurate...the Rays would have lost $10M+ in '08 if not for making the playoffs.

If the Rays revenue is the same in '10 that it was in '08, they are losing $30M+ with the current payroll.

meh, that's just the money on the books

The Yankee's ball club lost money

I'm pretty sure they made it up elsewhere.

Interesting analysis

The Pirates would lose money if they won more games.

Tampa Bay's regular-season operating income declined from $22 million in 2007 to about $3 million in 2008—which means it cost the team $18 million to transition from cellar dwellers to World Series participants. As amazing as it seems, even after adding in $11 million in postseason earnings, the Rays were more profitable when they went 66-96 than when they went 97-65.

can anyone explain how that is possible? is it strictly cuz of a higher payroll?

Isn't the revenue sharing money distributed partly based on record?
