DeAngelo Williams ‏@DeAngeloRB Dear upset fantasy owners with the bad language you are a fantasy owner for a reason because you can't play or apparently fantasy coach!
I don't blame him. Guys playing fake football and taking it to twitter is ridiculous. Sort of like a lot of what happens on this board. There are threads bumped every week with guys getting all puffed up about how they were right about this or that...only for the opposition to get puffed up and bump the thread in the next week.So stupid.

Stupid. But Deangelo - and all players for that matter - should just avoid social media. There's no upside to participating in the stupidity. And when you get paid serious dollars, better grow a thick skin if you can't live up to the contract, social media or otherwise.

That entire team is about to implode and Scam Newton is right in the middle of it. The guy is like WR diva type but at QB. If things dont go perfectly for him, he pouts and quits.

Wow. Carolina is going to implode after only 5 games into the 2012 season? What a terrible organization that must be.

Welcome to the Scam bandwagon. He's the biggest problem on the team. Without him, the coaches would run DeAngelo and Stewart all day long but they still think they have an elite QB whne they have a game managere at best. DeAngelo needs to go off on the coaches on this team and demand a trade. Tatally wasted talent. Glad I dumped him.

i'm pretty sure players' salaries would be much lower if it weren't for the popularity FF has brought to the NFL...Williams should probably shut up and stop making me look like an idiot for drafting him.

:lmao: Yes. Pretend football players ultimately run the show! :football:
Actually, I bet there's a lot of truth in this. It's all about TV dollars and no way does NFL TV do as well as it does without FF. I'd watch probably 80% less football, if not more.

Social media is so they can relate with actual fans and community outreach. Not fantasy owners. Fantasy owners need to stop acting stupid, nobody gives a sht about ur team so dont even tweet about it.

 FFers complained about the lockout, the rule changes, and the rent-a-refs but they were always there and they will always be there.

Dear Deangelo, the sooner you realize my favorite NFL team is 2nd to my own fantasy team the more peace you should have. Yes that'sright, you and the other spoiled babyish players are just pawns to me that I can pickup and throw away at my strategical convenience. The NFL experience is more enjoyable to me that way. Guess you'll have to learn to deal with it. :-)

true...and i would never tweet a player about my FF team...however, did he really need to say "you are a fantasy owner for a reason because you can't play "? Seems like he's belittling the tweeter about being a FF player...how does he know the tweeter isn't some 11 year old kid? Whether he likes it or not, FF is a huge reason people consume the NFL the way they do...

Yeah, the NFL has been king before FF as we know it today through now. It added some fans, a small minority. But what it basically did was CAPITALIZE on the popularity of football, more so than grow it by leaps and bounds. I mean, I also play fantasy hockey and it's a very niche fantasy sport, and info is a heck of a lot tougher to come by. Why? Because NHL is a niche sport in the US. FF information and discussion is all over the place. Hell, I find it even when I'm not looking for it. To say the salaries would be markedly lower without FF is without basis. Tons and tons of casual and hardcore FF players don't play any sort of playoff fantasy games, and yet they're still a ratings monster well before the SB. The NFL is the machine. FF helps it, but it's not a major cog. It is for ESPN or Yahoo. But as far as ratings and salaries, I wouldn't go as far to say it makes a major impact.

:goodposting: how many people know, much less care, that Carolina lost yesterday? But everyone knows that he had negative fantasy points. Just the way it is...

I laughed at the can't "apparently fantasy coach" comment.

He's right. If you started d.williams against sea's defense, you should probably be thinking of how to improve for next year's draft.

You're probably right...i guess my point is that Fans are the reason they are paid the way they are...and to rip a fan for how he/she consumes the sport (whether its FF, gambling, panther fan, etc) that pays you millions of dollars seems irresponsible to me...

Fair enough. I don't get the idea that celebrities and athletes on Twitter, and in general, are like guards at Buckingham Palace that they can just say whatever to with no response. It's like a mentality of "we have the right to act ignorant and if you lower yourself to our level, you're being unprofessional." I can't be the only one who has a problem with this, right? I don't think he was too harsh, so good for him. Just my opinion.

@DeAngeloRB So you're saying that people are bad fantasy "coaches" for picking you? Isn't that a dig on yourself??7:51pm - 7 Oct 12

At least we can fantasy GM better. No one plays DeAngelo $43 million in a salary cap league to rush it less than 5 times a game. #overpaid

What's this got to do with anything? Basically 49er fan said salaries would be lower if FF didn't exist. I bet that's true.

It is funny that DeAngelo would bust on fantasy owners upset at his lack of production. There's a sorry few that actually still get disappointed by his lack of production - he should be kind to the few that still believe he's a talented back.

As far as the others in the post that seem to think that fantasy football isn't extremely important to the NFL, you haven't watched a game in a while have you? NFL Redzone, the score alerts, the ticker at the bottom of the screen showing the stat leaders from the games. Also, how many different fantasy football related shows and/or segments during the pre-game? Not to mention all of the information on injury reports (started because of betting) and game-day inactives. All of that is directly related to fantasy football.

Now, I'm not suggesting that fantasy football has any impact on the game itself, but it sure drives how the game is presented by all of the networks. Would there be an NFL network without the growth of fantasy football?

Seriously? Wow. I've loved football since I was a kid and while I paid attention to more games/players when I played FF (I played for 10 year's and got burnt out and quit 5 years ago), I still put in 7-9 hours every Sunday watching - I just dont care as much about what individual players are doing. So FF didnt make me watch more, it just made me watch more closely.

I am sure he was just frustrated, but if not shame on him. Fans fuel the game, and I am sorry that not all of us were lucky enough to be born with the god given talent he was to play football, instead those people are teachers, policemen, firefighters, construction workers and others that are good at we do and just don't make the money he does.

I have to be the complete opposite. Don't get me wrong, I love football. FF has drawn me to websites, TV subscriptions, watching more games etc. However, it is all about me winning a decent amount of money on a hobby. I started watching my home team when I was probably 8 years old. I will continue to watch my team until I am 80 years old. Tonight is a perfect example, once my player hits his points its going to be click on something else for me. I guess, FF has jaded me.

So why are you here if you do not like pretend football? Kinda sounds as idiotic as D. Williams letting the people who are not able to play get to him.Fact is D. Williams sucks and has performed bad for the past couple years and deserves all the smack he gets, if he does not want to hear it, how bout he makes a tackler or two miss.

people are idiots for using bad language and even talking to NFL players -

HOWEVER - why do you think players have social media? to get attention - problem is they only want the positive variety.

DW is the one that signed that FAT contract, and his output is mediocre (based on the contract) at best. If he doesn't like it - stay off twitter. Gotta take the bad with the good.

Since he signed his contract, he has to be earning the most money per yard or carry of anyone that wasn't seriously injured. $43 million - that's like $1 million per yard since he signed.

Deangelo's response was ill-advised and, certainly, he should either avoid social media with "fans" or get thicker skin.

But come on! There's just no reason at all to defend this stupid fan behavior.

I can understand an athlete getting annoyed and making an ill-advised response, but I can't, for the life of me, understand how some idiot ever thinks it's a good idea to message a football player complaining about their stupid fantasy team.

And Deangelo doesn't need to repay the Panthers anything. He was offered a terrible contract and did the smart thing (signed it quickly). He's still a very good player, but he accepted a part-time role (another smart thing) on a team that does everything wrong (from salary cap management to drafting and gameplanning). He's done a lot of smart things, but his production isn't going to be very exciting.

I don't have a twitter account but from what I hear its pretty easy to block people. Probably should just do that from now on, D will. Oh and please run the ball more gooder as I'm stuck with you as my flex.

:goodposting: I don't know how big of a cut the NFL gets from the Sunday ticket, but I know without FF, I wouldn't pay that big monthly bill to get it. Because of FF, I actually didn't take advantage of the lower offer this year because I wanted all the fantasy extras. I've always loved football, but before FF, I watched the Packers and maybe a couple others if they were interesting. Every Thursday, Sunday night, and Monday night there are people in here #####ing about how boring the game is, but they are staying up late because they want to watch their fantasy players.

In Deangelo's defense, he just got the twitter account about two weeks ago...so it's probably his first big brush in with the twitter blowup that NFL players get after a bad game or two. Most players have been on for a while and have already seen all of this before, but it's fairly new to him.

Personally, I wish they would all just stay away from twitter.

You gotta be a real tool to curse at a professional athlete over the internet because of your fantasy team.

What if was fantasy junkie MJD firing one of the naughty tweets?

There's a guy (MJD) who has fun with it; embraces it ... plays it. And he's not the only one in the NFL.

Williams can kiss my hairy ####. Eff him.
