Ricardo lockette, for those who havent been following his story. He lit it up in camp on tuesday. His deep sleeper status could be quickly gone if he does the same in the preseason games though. The niners play tonight.

Also like dennis johnsons potential, resembles a young mjd on a running team. Tate will likely be gone to free agency after this season I believe.
I think the job is between Lockette and Jenkins since they need a deep threat who can open up the field for Boldin.
Marlon Moore

Haven't really heard anyone talking about Michael Ford, but he could have a chance to backup Forte late this year or next year. He put up pretty good numbers at the combine.
Keeping with the Michaels ...Michael Hill... Ryan Mathews is an injury waiting to happen and if you watch Hill's youtube highlights you will find a very impressive set of skills. Cutting, vision, ball protection..snicker, and a wicked stiff arm.
4 carries zero yards yesterday for Michael Hill.

I posted this earlier today in the TEs thread but I found it MORE appropriate for this thread because we are talking about deep dynasty sleepers.

Here is my list at TE for deep dynasty sleepers that I believe may have a shot for at least some fantasy relevance by late 2013 or early 2014 and IMHO each one of these have a shot to become a top 15 TE contributor within 3 yrs.

Obviously that is a really loaded statement but I will do my best to lay out my opinions on these players who may in some cases still be available on your waiver wire in your dynasty leagues. In order for these players to reach any sort of fantasy relevance they need a combination of 3 things.

Talent: Athletic 2 way TEs may see the field quicker because they will allow their teams to use them in a variety of formations. Swing or Motion TEs tend to be a little smaller (in general) and are assumed to be better fitted for helping out in the passing game.

Opportunity: This could factor in quite a few important elements. Depth chart over the next few yrs would be an important factor and is nearly impossible to project beyond the current contracts of the players already on the roster. Offensive scheme can make things better or worse... Chud and Norval Turner in Cleveland for example should give Jordan Cameron a huge boost because of their history with athletic TEs. Viable QB play may be one of the most important factors there is because without one even a player like Jimmy Graham could perform like Ben Troupe.

Trust: Does the coaching staff believe this player is part of their future? Does the QB trust them to execute their assignments consistently and trust them enough to allow them to try and make a play?

There are many other factors as well but with the framework above here are some sleeper TE names to keep in mind for 2014 and beyond. Some of these COULD make a surprising impact for THIS season as well but I don't expect any of them to finish higher than TE 20 for this season.

James Casey/ Zach Ertz PHI (I was really excited to see what Casey could do and I'm still holding him in a few leagues in hopes that they use him in the slot frequently but with the drafting of Ertz and the uncertainty of what Chip Kelly's offense will look like I just don't think I can confidently give any kind of evaluation... I believe this offense is going to spread it around so much that maybe the offense will be productive but any single player in the pass game won't be productive enough to hold on my roster for long)
Is anyone still buying the James Casey deep TE sleeper talk? Is he a hold? After that first preseason game (I know it's tough to take anything away from these games in either direction) where he barely saw a target and didn't play a single snap with the Eagles first team O apparently. The first team O had 21 plays and only 6 required more than 1 TE. I did see him make a nice ST tackle though (which made me think, is he even in the consideration of Kelly?).

Is Celek still the only trusted guy there or are they just not showing too much this early?

Saw where Casey recently said after that game "There is a lot more of this offense that we haven’t unveiled, and that is very exciting for all of us."

-I'm just wondering if they are holding back this much

-If this Offense will just spread it around too much for any TE to be a viable deeper stash TE

-Maybe Casey is just not that good to get on the field as the Swiss Army knife role we're envisioning?

You have the up tempo play calling (potentially more offensive snaps), the WR injuries, Celek getting up in age and not as mobile and Ertz being a rookie it seems like there could be something here, but need to see more involvement quick.

How about Joe Webb? I've had an affinity for QBs turned WR ever since I drafted Bert Emanuel, and Webb has an ideal size-speed combo while be familiar with the playbook.
I guess Joe Webb has some pretty good hands. He just can't run routes very well and that is likely going to take some time. Now imagine if the Vikings had started that process 2 years ago, maybe he would have developed some technique in that area already, but they didn't.

As long as Webb makes the roster (not a certainty at this point but likely I think) he could be a nice weapon on kick returns/trick plays.

I like some of the backup QBs (Mallett, Osweiler, Cousins) as high-upside stashes. At runningback, McGahee is capable of putting up top-24 numbers this season if someone has an injury during training camp or preseason. Jarius Wright and Dexter McCluster are intriguing guys to me in PPR leagues- probably just roster trash, but I'm interested enough to give them a couple months to audition. Tavarres King is a good sleeper out in Denver, since Decker is a UFA and Welker only has two years on his contract. Levine Toilolo doesn't look like anything special, but next season he's probably going to be Atlanta's starting TE by default when Gonzo retires, and Roddy's not getting any younger either. In really, really deep leagues, I could even see wasting a roster spot on Tim Tebow just in case he manages to earn TE eligibility. Keshawn Martin and Ace Sanders should be rostered in all leagues that reward return yards- Sanders is worth rostering even in leagues that don't. As my super-duper-duper deep sleeper special, I actually kind of like Arrelious Benn. He was garbage in Tampa, but he has fantastic pedigree, and he wouldn't be the first receiver who just needed a change of scenery- with Maclin's injury and Riley Cooper's meltdown, there might be opportunity to be had in Philly.

Actually local media is saying he is making BIG strides (no pun intended) as a WR. At one point it looked like he had hands of stone and then his natural talent started to show. Then it looked like he couldn't run a route to save his life, but now they're saying he's looking good.

Now, the roster has Greg Jennings, Cordarelle Patterson and Jarius Wright on a team that will run the ball with that one AP guy a whole lot. Not like there's going to be a ton of opportunity but maybe in a couple years he could be a nifty guy to have rostered.

Right. I take a lot of stuff I read from Vikings camp with a huge grain of salt. Maybe I am believing too much about how good Webbs hands are as a receiver though. I do think that is the key for him to actually see time in the offense. He can still make the team as special teams anyways I think. But if he could play in some of those diamond formations and other plays as a reliable blocker (I don't know) and can catch the ball, Webb is a great athlete, he can win a lot of match ups without great technique. The key will be how much they trust him as a receiver I think as far as getting some snaps on offense.

Webb could be a very exciting player however if they wanted to get fancy by having Webb throw the ball off a reverse or something high risk like that.

With Frazier as the HC.. I would not expect to see a whole lot of that. But I do think they could have some nice plays with Webb as a unique threat in that way.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried by the lack of seeing anything from Casey in the preseason so far but I still have a gut feeling that Kelly isn't showing his hand too much at this pt in the preseason...

I also think that Kelly is the kind of coach who knows what his plan is and he doesn't just make a move like targeting someone like Casey to NOT use him... Also I find it difficult to imagine that Casey would have signed with the Eagles if his ultimate role wouldn't be much more than what he had in Houston... The NFL is becoming more and more of a matchup league an lets be honest Casey should be a matchup nightmare for most LBs and a tough matchup for a lot of safeties and DBs (IMHO)

If Kelly runs no huddle hurry up offenses Casey could be a big part of what he does formation wise... I gotta think he will benefit from a majority of those matchups

I'm not calling for him to be a stud TE but I'm interested to see how all of this plays out!!

Kyle Williams has wheels too
True. He's expected to play week 3 and should get to play a lot against the Vikes, hopefully while Kaep is in the game. He's got the best chance of winning the #2 job at the moment if he shows anything at all.

Now that things are shaking out, the sleepers who I expect to survive on my rosters and possibly contribute as depth or better are...

Blount

Dunbar

Holmes

Hill

Cumberland

L Green

Blount and Dunbar are probably RB3/4s but they were free and RB depth is pretty important. Dunbar could also earn more touches in a Sproles type role over time. And both guys are an injury away from being FF startable.

Holmes demise has been overstated IMO and despite the Jets' QB woes I think either he or Hill should be good for a WR3 type season.

Cumberland is someone I've been watching for a year now and once the Jets decided to let Keller walk and Ryan said he's the starter I got more intrigued. Two TDs on two targets running with the starters this preseason and I'm all aboard.

I've said all along that I thought L Green was more of a big WR than a small TE, and with the problems in SD he's got a big opportunity in front of him now. And like Cumberland his preseason performance has been very good. Best case you end up with a pretty good WR occupying the TE spot on your roster -- Malcom Floyd's #s would have been good for TE6/7 in each of the last couple years.

Some of them might not be sleepers anymore, but they were basically guys who could have been had for almost nothing, or picked up off the WW not too long ago.
