Why would the deer have to be tied up? What if I faked a punch to the gut to get the deer to drop his guard and then clocked him with a right-cross to the chops?

Absolutely not, bucks smash each other in the heads during rutting season and I never heard of one getting "knocked out". Bucks are designed to smash heads, humans are not designed for being smashed in the head that's why humans get knocked out. Very unlikely that a puny human punch could match the momentum and devastation of a charging 250 pounds bucks antlers (basically the equivalent of brass knuckles) to another bucks chops.
Bow hunting only guys. I understand the draw (get it?) of bow hunting. It's a purer form of hunting and requires quite a bit more skill. I would like to do it myself someday.
Would you like your state to only allow hunting deer by bow? Think about your answer.
Have fun! Where ya heading? This heat is a big buzzkill this week. Hopefully you're going out west enough to catch the cold front sweeping through Fri-Sun.
Im in the twin cities and heading toward the Dakotas. Between Montevideo and Alexandria. The highs should be in the 50s. Nice to sit in, not great for hunting I guess.

As much as I'd want to say yes, I can't. Even with the popularity of crossbows now (I'm not a fan), I don't think we'd be able to keep the numbers down enough to keep the herd in check. Gun seasons have a purpose, I just personally don't care for them.
I do think my state should cut back on the number of gun seasons; it's gotten way out of control. I hunt a state park that has an archery only season going right now, but when there are overlapping gun seasons going on in the state we still have to wear orange (stupid). I've hunted one day out of 8 days hunted where I didn't have to wear orange.
I do want the state park to go archery only and have a shooter proficiency test to be allowed in. There are so many stories of slobs making bad shots and not recovering the deer; it makes me sick. This park has been overhunted and would be fine, IMO, going archery only since the terrain would support it (tighter woods).
