DEF/ST play of the week (1 Viewer)

Much like last week, there are DEF/ST available on most waiver wires that have good matchups this week. Here are a few to keep an eye on.

KC Chiefs: Did a decent job vs the Pats, granted they lost their MVP QB early, but still held them to 17 points. They face the Raiders this week. Good matchup.

Car Panthers: Looked solid against the Chargers for much of the game, gave up some passing Tds late. They have the Bears this week. Although the Bears did good vs the Colts, I think the Panthers are a solid option against the Bears offense.

Buff Bills: Scored on specials teams and had a few TO's. Looked very good vs the Seattle offense. Now they go against a Jags team that lose two OL.

NO Saints: Washington looked lost last week...could be a good matchup this week.

There you have it. I really any of these defenses this week. Anyone stand out?

the skins did look lost, but the NO defense looked like swish cheese against the run. Portis should have a big day.

I can't imagine the Bills will be an available waiver wire play anymore after this week. If they are still available, ride them for the whole season. Highly underrated D and one of the best PR/KR tandems in the league.

I was also thinking Tenn vs. Bungles or Ravens vs. Houston.
I like playing D's at home...how about Houston at home vs. the Ravens? Houston is gonna be pissed after getting ran over in PIT.Thats my play of the week
Houston couldn't anyone on the Steelers...I like the Ravens to run all over them. Might be a low scoring affair but might not be a lot of turnovers as the Ravens grind it out.

Picked the Bills with my last pick hoping they would be a good play. Paid off big time. Hope they are for real.

The Titans are available on my WW, but I am sure someone will pick them up this week.

we'll just have to see how this one turns out :hophead:

What's everyone's thoughts on Carolina at home vs the Bears this week?

Granted, Chicago looked better than expected week 1 and Orton doesn't seem like he'll turn the ball over much, but Carolina played pretty well on the road vs a good offense last week.

They're ranked pretty low... is the D really that bad?

AZ hosting MIA seems like a good matchup. They were strong last week.
MIA may not score a lot, but Pennington doesn't really turn the ball over often (and i am not a pennington fan)... and i don't see too many sacks..Giants vs. STL is good, if they're availableKC is a possibility, but i'm not sold..TEN seems solidBUF looked great last week.. hopefully they are real.. i think so

New York Jets @ home vs. a backup QB making his first start since 1999.

The Meadowlands is going to be rocking! I haven't seen Jets' fans this pumped up for a home opener since 1999 when Vinny tore his achilles in the 1st quarter.

There will be sacks, there will be a turnover or two, and the Jets have one of the best special teams units in all of football so there is always a chance Leon Washington will take one back to the house.

I'm benching Minnesota and spot-starting the NYJ.

I'm rolling the dice with Arizona. I read a lot about their offseason additions and they are supposed to have a pretty talented squad. Miami is a great matchup. I looked into Carolina as well. They SHOULD be a good defense this year as long as Peppers plays back to form. I hate relying on one player to make a whole defense though. I didnt see anything else about their defense besides Peppers, Peppers, Peppers. That makes me nervous. Too bad, because I wanted to go with Carolina. I guess we will see over the next few weeks.

Before you start TEN, make sure Haynesworth is playing. I believe the Titans were the worst D in the league when he was out last year. Cincy beat them 35-6.

Buffalo is a good play again with Stroud and co against the second string interior OL for Jacksonville, which should force Garrard to pass more, and we saw what that yielded last week. Terrence McGee should play the part of Cortland Finnegan. Does any team have a better set of return men - McGee, Parrish, McKelvin are all better than most team's #1 option.

I like the Jets against NE as a real sleeper. Cassel was great coming in cold off the bench, but we've seen plenty of backups come back to earth in their first start. Revis is a true ballhawk and I would think the Jets will use him to neutralize Moss, which should force Cassel into bad decisions. You also get Leon Washington's returns, and that's a good thing.

Arizona at home vs MIA looks solid, Travis LaBoy has given them the speed rush they lacked, and Adrian Wilson is back to his old self. This could be a good D to have most of the year if the OL continues to get that kind of push and they control games. Also, Breaston is looking like one of the better return men in the league.

I've seem people dumping the SEA defense on the WW this week after last Sunday's ugly loss at BUF. I think they will be a good play this week at home vs. SF. The 49ers turned the ball over 5 times vs ARI and are likely to suffer INTs and sacks on the road at SEA while still trying to figure out this Martz offense which doesn't stress protecting the QB in the first place.

The execution of the Martz offense actually looked pretty smooth. The one INT by JTO was on a good anticipation play by Adrian Wilson, not a problem with the team's execution. The TOs otherwise were a fumble by the fullback Keasey, two fumbles by JTO on sacks (one was in quasi-garbage time) and Takeo Spikes attempt to field a kickoff.I do think Seattle is a solid play if only on the boost the home crowd will give them and the ferocious pass rush they can create, but SF's O was actually decent in the opener.

That's fine regarding week one, but I don't over-emphasize one game when planning ahead. With defenses, I try to look at Ds facing a road team with a turnover and sack prone offense. I do think SF qualifies, given JTO's overall inexperience as a starter, the team still learning the offense, and the fact that Martz offenses leave QBs unprotected more than other schemes (Warner and Bulger got clobbered a lot too).

i'm going with ravens @ houston over panthers vs bears.

i don't see houston being able to run the ball at all (again) and i'm not afraid of schaub.

In standard scoring, I don't like KC too much. They've got a good, solid defense, but they aren't going to rack up the sacks and as a result of that they won't force too many turnovers. Special teams are marginal, too.

This is good info here. I am starting Buf over Ten because I think the second stringers for Jax get manhandled. Also as Bloom said Cin had a great game vs Ten last year and that's enough to scare me off with or without Haynseworth.

Can anyone tell me who returns punts/kicks for Seattle? Is there special teams/D worth rostering over the likes of CAR,AZI,MIN?

Got the Giants and Buffalo defense and right now I'm leaning towards the Giants. Love Buffalo, but c'mon, the G-men have the Rams this weekend? Could see a pick 6 and several sacks.

Mud

I am sticking with the Bills this week. They were gold for me last week and I think the Jags line is decimated, making it tough for them to run at all against Buff. Might be a few TOs and a low scoring affair.

I heard 4, 3 starters since training camp. 2 in week 1.

I'm in the same position and I've also got the Giants in for this week... for now anyways
Giants will be the #1 defense this week. The Rams are TERRIBLE. They should have been blanked had they not been shamed into a 4th Quarter FG attempt down 35-0.

 I'm riding this bandwagon.. Jets had a bunch of sacks last week against a pretty stellar O-line in Miami. Cassels is going to be feeling the pressure and should be good for an INT, plus a few sacks for good measure

Hmmm. I picked up the Chiefs this week to play them against Oakland. Playing them over G.B. @ Detroit. Think that's a mistake? In addition to sacks and turnovers, we get points for holding scoring down. The baseline is 20, meaning that if KC gets a shutout, they get 20 points (plus sacks & TOs)... if Oakland scores 3 points, KC's defense gets 17 points (plus sacks & TOs)... etc. As you can see, our D's can rack up some huge points if they dominate. I figured Detroit will get their points at home. Can't say the same about the Raiders.

I like KC this week too. But, if Fargas and Co. can run well, there won't be many TO's. The score and total yards will probably be low though. I think this will be a fairly low scoring game with both teams trying to run all game.

Tenn is most likely gone in most leagues....

I've been picking up the Panthers vs Chi-town; should be a low scoring game.

Car isn't going to let forte run all over them like Indy did... thier going to force Orton to beat them.

Look for about 4 sacks / 1 or 2 INTs / 1 FF / at most 17 to 20 pts given up by Panthers D.

Thats probably the safest bet u have on the waiver

It is? Ok perhaps so. But I just picked up Hawks D from waivers and they should cause havoc with Sullivan (sp?). I predict same number of TOs as you but with a TD sprinkled in :excited:

i'm all over Carolina this week. I think they shut down the Bears running game and make Orton try to beat them....which he won't.

I don't get the Carolina ranking this week on the cheat sheets. I picked them up to start them over the Vikings against Indy this week but these rankings have me second guessing myself.

One more with Bills & Giants tandem. I drafted the Bill to be my #1, but liked NY's match up better last week & started them. Cost me 21 points, but thankfully not the win. In spite of that & the Jag's O-line woes, I still have the Giants starting again this week. They looked SOLID against the Skins last week, but they just didn't post a lot of fantasy points with only 1 sack & no turnovers. As an Eagles fan I also watched that game, and the Rams were flat out brutal on O all day. They made a mediocre Eagles D look like the 85 Bears (and a mediocre Eagles O look like the 07 Pats, which doesn't hurt your D either). I've heard all the "trap game" talk, but I don't think I can bench the Giants D with that match up.
