Defense strategy question. (1 Viewer)

I have an unusual question for everybody. I’ll call this my ‘who do I hoard question’.

I have an extra roster spot now that I dropped Vernon Davis (I get Witten back off the bye). My opponent this week has Pitt D on bye this week. Obviously he will have to pick one up from waivers. I pick two waiver spots before him and the guy that picks after me needs a Def also. There only two good Def on the wire are the Eagles and the Cowboys. The guy who picks behind me has already said he will get one of the two. My intention is to grab the other Def and hoard him so my opponent can’t use the Def against me this week. So the question is which def do I grab; Philly at home against Green Bay, or Dallas at Tennessee? My gut reaction is to go with Dallas as Tenn looks horrible. What do you guys think?

Good question.

Correct forum. This is not a WDIS, this is a strategy question of which is perfectly acceptable for the Shark Pool. Who elected you moderator anyway? Why not let the moderators do their job?

This question is more of an ethics question. According to Yahoo rules it violates the sportsmanship rules which are as follows:

All league-related transactions will be executed with the intent of improving the owner's team or its standing within the league.

No owner may drop or "dump" players from their team for any reason other than improving their own team or its standing within the league.

No owner will engage in any action that might be deemed to be collusive (two or more owners agreeing to make moves that benefit one team, but not the other).

No owner will make any roster moves (including waiver claims, trade proposals, etc.) whose sole purpose is to hamper the play of other owners.

No owner will take any action whose purpose is to, in any way, interfere with fair play in a league.

That being said, perhaps you aren't in a Yahoo league and even if you are you may prefer to abide by the spirit of the actual league in which you are playing. If it's ultra competitive then do it. If it violates a rule, make them call you on it kind of like if you're not fouling then you're not trying hard enough in basketball or if you're not holding you're not doing your job in the NFL. Just my $.02

Hoarding players on your bench is a time honored Fantasy football tradition. Come on...how many people this week are going to get Maurice Morris just to make sure the SA owner doesn't get him. I'd say quite a few.

Anyway, If I had the Cowboys D against the awful Tenn Titans I would play them over any other D. Just my thoughts.

If Cleveland is on the wire, there are three good defenses there. The browns play the lowly Raiders.

I agree this sounds player-specific, vs. ethics or strategy question when you finish the post with : "My gut reaction is to go with Dallas as Tenn looks horrible. What do you guys think?"

Regarding the general question of hoarding players, which I agree is strategy/ethics, there is noting wrong with it. If someone takes the risk of not carrying a back up, it is just that - a risk -- it is an attempt to get a 'free" roster spot, which is fine, but submits you to the risk of being short a player..or at least a decent player.

I always try to get my bye week K and Def two weeks out so no one gets me like this. Maybe someone thinking ahead did that with Cleveland. They look attractive this week.

you know this kind of thing happens in real life. A few years ago when the Raiders went to the superbowl, Deion Sanders publicly said that he was thinking about joining their team. It got nixed when he was informed that he would have to clear waivers and Marty Schottenheimer stated he would pick him up as revenge for something that happend between the two of them while they were with the Redskins.

Not trying to play moderator, just trying to help out a new board member. The post began as an ethics exercise and ended as a WDIPU question.

I have the Steelers defence and jumped all over the Browns this week. I'd have loved it a lot more if they were playing in the pound but I think this is definitely the best option.
