Demarco Murray (1 Viewer)

Does anyone think it's worth trading away my first round pick in 2017 for Demarco Murray in a .5 PPR dynasty league? This would be for a championship run this year. Presently my offensive starting line-up is

QB: Russel Wilson (or Phillip Rivers)

RB: Leveon Bell, Thomas Rawls

WR: Larry Fitzgerald, Stefon Diggs, Golden Tate, Michael Thomas (or Tyreek Hill)

TE: Jimmy Graham

My first round next year will be between 1.11 and 1.14 depending on how I place in the playoffs/championship. The question is, do people think Demarco Murray will retain a decent portion of his value next year? Enough to keep him in the mix considering the above line-up. I know he'll help me through the playoffs (though I probably would only need him for the championship game as I have the advantage over the teams I'd play on the way there). Thoughts? I'd need to pull the trigger before I go to bed Saturday night.

Edit: The RB/WR/TE positions only require 1 starting player per position. There are four flex spots between those three positions so Murray could replace anyone in that starting line-up except Jimmy Graham. The two players in parenthesis are alternate flex options, not presently starters (though I wish I'd started Hill this week).

Just to give you a data point, I play in a keeper league (not a true dynasty league, it's a keep 3 league) where keepers cost whatever round they were drafted previously.  Murray would be a 4th round cost next year, and I just traded for him to an owner that was out of the playoffs this year and has other better keeper options (his opinion, not mine).  I gave up my 9th rounder for him straight up last week.  I was willing to go as high as a 5th, but I threw out a 9th as a lowball offer and it got accepted, so I was pleasantly surprised.  With that said, I would be wary of giving up a first or second for him, since for all we know TN might decide to use Henry more, take touches away from Murray, who knows by the time next year rolls around.  He's not as much of a surefire "gonna be the guy" next year as Bell or Elliott, etc. Henry is too talented and was drafted too high for them to completely relegate him to backup duty only.

BUT, with that said, the old fantasy saying "flags fly forever" is very true.  How good of a shot do you have to win the title?  I'm always a proponent of do whatever it takes to win a title if you can, and sort the rest out later.  If Murray would lock up a title for you then give whatever it takes.  In my case, Murray would certainly help but I'm by no means a lock, so I wasn't willing to give up such high picks as you are.

And am I reading you right, Rivers being in ( ) means you can flex him?  Why wouldn't you flex a QB if you could??

It all boils down to is Murray a big enough upgrade in your lineup for the last 4 weeks to warrant giving up a 1st rounder.  It appears that he would be an upgrade over Tate and Diggs and could be a wash with Rawls.  If you think he is that big of an upgrade then go for it.  This is a trade you make to win this year and Murray's next year value shouldn't be a huge factor in the decision.  Does he put you over the top this year?  If the answer is yes then do it.  If the answer is maybe then I probably hold off.

QB isn't a flex option. () just means I could start Wilson or Rivers. Just like it meant I could start Hill instead of one of the other WRs. Man do I wish I'd left Hill in and taken Tate out......

Demarco Murray wouldn't lock the championship for me. He'd probably lock second place for me but I'm likely gonna need some luck to win the championship as the two teams I'm likely to be up against both outscored me all season by an umcomfortable (thought not insurmountable) margin. Basically, I have a 5-9 point per game advantage over all the teams on my bracket in the playoff (5-9 being an average through 13 weeks of play), The teams I am more likely to face in the championship have the same advantage over me.
