Demaryius Thomas (1 Viewer)

Bronx Bomber

Footballguy
I don't really know much about this guy other than he was a 1st round pick and tore his Achilles. Whats the scouting report on him and when will he be back? how do you think they will use him with Lloyd and Decker playing the way they are?

Per rotoworld...Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is out "at least" two more weeks after surgery to repair the broken finger on his left hand. The surgery was on his pinkie finger. Thomas is also coming off a February Achilles' tendon tear, so at least the finger surgery should keep him rested a little longer. The Broncos erred badly in keeping him on the 53-man roster. That was exactly 2 weeks ago. Looks like they're targeting week 7: http://www.rotowire.com/Demaryius-Thomas-googid221173-spnfl.htmAs a dynasty stash, it's not too bad that Decker has emerged. I would rather see him play limited snaps this year, and then push harder next year. Hopefully he shows enough this year to know if he's even worth holding (sort of like Danario did last year).

Potentially Week 7. It's to be seen for sure, but early rumors are that he's "likely" to play.

He's a definite speculative add with upside.

With a giant * of If Healthy. But yea. This guy is a number 1 WR eventually if he stays on the field.

ummm has there EVER been a WR become a WR1 after an achilles tear?just saying
Unfair qualification. While I agree with you that an achilles is a devastating injury, the worst even, it doesnt mean a young player with the proper rehab can't bounce back. The problem I have with the "history" of players with achilles injuries is that it is such a small sample and in many cases the players who suffered such an injury were not game changing players with top skills to begin with.

Is it too much to assume they are confident he can step in and produce right away since they sent Lloyd packing? I added him last week once the trade rumors started up. Hoping he can be a stud given the opportunity but I don't know much about his skillset other than his huge game last year when everyone ran to the waiver wire to pick him up. There's certainly less competition in Denver now. Guess he's a stash and hope for now.

and have him play on my team a whole 2 games a year?
Did you say the same about Frank Gore or Adrian Peterson? They were once labeled as injury prone.

tell me again how those two players are remotely comparable to a hyped WR who gets injured while injured and has how many games under his belt in two seasons?nice comparison :lmao: :hophead:

Would you drop Decker for Thomas? thin benches here and I'm leaning towards plugging in Decker since he's more of a proven commodity.

Decker is listed as starter on Denver depth chart; I'd hold on to him rather than gamble on Thomas

So what's the deal here. I already have in a waiver claim for Bey Bey b/c I think he has the most upside of all of the rift raft left on my wire.

But is he the starting WR1 now across from Decker?

This guy has been made of glass thus far but he certainly has shown glimpses. Who else is gambling on him?

Im gonna drop Denarius Moore for Bey-Bey. The kid is a BEAST. Big caveat though: It's HIGHLY contingent on his comeback from the achilles tendon tear and just flat-out staying healthy; which he has yet to prove.

If you're in a keeper league, get Demaryius. He probably won't help you right away but he's a guy to stash. If you need immediate impact keep Decker. If you have both, keep Demaryius and sell high on Decker.

Would you drop Damian Williams for Bey Bey?Or would you drop Greg Little for Bey Bey?

Definitely ntot Little. As for Williams, it depends on what your team looks like. If Williams rides your bench and you don't need to plug him in regularly as a WR3, Thomas has more swing for the fences upside in my opinion. Williams is only going to be so productive

Interesting piece in Denver Post about Demaryius. One excerpt:

For plenty of folks, the April day in 2010 when the Broncos used the 25th pick in the NFL draft to select Tim Tebow was a watershed moment, the first page of what will become Tebow's story as a professional quarterback.

But Tebow wasn't the first player the Broncos drafted that day.

Three picks before taking Tebow, the Broncos selected a player they had placed higher on their draft board than the Heisman Trophy winner from Florida. Demaryius Thomas, a wide receiver from Georgia Tech, was drafted No. 22 overall.

"I still want to be that guy," Thomas said Monday. "I think I'm ready to be that guy. I've been saying this, but this is the healthiest I've been, right now, since I've been in the league."

Demaryius Thomas still has a plate and three screws in his left hand.

The metal in Thomas' hand won't stop him from playing, but it's a reminder of how banged up this guy has been. He's had a torn Achilles and a fractured hand in addition to foot/ankle woes. At this point, Thomas is simply raw, impressive talent. He'll likely come off the bench behind Eddie Royal in two-wide sets initially.

While we can always surmise that it's "possible" for a player to return to form after this type of injury, to date the data hasn't supported that conclusion, yet, so I think we need to be mindful in reigning in any expectations we have for DT. Every study I've seen on NFL players returning from Achilles injuries has concluded that about a third never play again and the remaining 2/3rds that do return display a significant increase in number of games missed going forward and an equally-significant (50%) drop in "power rating", defined as yards gained and other on-field performance-related data. For a player like Thomas who does not have a track record of elite NFL performance, we're mostly still going on his college career and his measurables, which we have to assume are going to be less than what they were last year, at least at this point in time. Put it this way, it's highly unlikely he's stronger/faster/more flexible now than he was pre-injury.While I'd like to add Thomas and see him go off, I'm thinking we're going to see Royal and the TEs being much more productive than DT for at least the next 4-6 weeks as a best-case scenario. Worst-case he gets injured, again, or comes back showing a shadow of his former talent. Again, we just don't have any data to support anyone returning to glory after this type of injury, yet.

:goodposting: the hype Thomas is getting with the Lloyd trade is almost comical for a guy held together by sticky glue. has metal plate in his hand and is extremely raw. i don't doubt the skill but i HIGHLY doubt the way this kids physically put together and his tendency to rip/tear/break or pull something.

Having watched this kid play... He is in a great situation to have some big games with defenses focusing on Tebow. He's the perfect broken play threat. He's big, physical, quick, and *the key* great instincs on broken plays - he keeps moving and seems to find the open holes when the QB is improvising. Only concern is him getting back into game shape.

He might be the guy to save your fantasy season if you're hurtin on receivers.

Hard to imagine him playing a full compliment of snaps, at least right away. He just tore his achilles and had the surgery in February. Definitely a stash if you have room, but wouldn't cut a proven guy or healthier guy for him. Decker is locked in at one spot, and he's probably going to be Tebow's go-to for a while, I don't think Thomas and Tebow have had any work together to develop chemistry since last summer.

:goodposting: I don't expect much if anything for the rest of this season.

True. His game shape & health are legit concerns. As for chemistry: Tebow doesn't have a "go to guy" yet. Running QBs and good broken play receivers have a different kind of chemistry than pocket passers with timing/route receivers. Watch Steve Smith and Deshawn Jackson... they do a great job of following their QBs and finding a hole on broken plays. Thomas has that.

Latest from Rotoworld is that he is practicing with a wrap on his hand. I'm holding off for now. Decker is healthy, luckily I got him back in a league o had dropped him in.

saw on nfl around the league live some chick who interviewed him said that he would play sunday with his hand wrapped and that he wanted to step up right away and establish that he can fill lloyds shoes... or something to that effect.

Practiced in full today. Very good sign.

The fact that Denver was willing to trade Lloyd and Royal indicates to me that they feel Demaryius is healthy and ready to play. I do believe he can put up some numbers this season. I think he's an excellent high-ceiling, buy-low fantasy gamble who is still on the free agent list in many/most leagues, especially those with 12 or more franchises and/or deep rosters. His size and athletic ability make him an obvious terrific red zone target.

All aboard! Sneaky pickup this week for owners with low waiver priority or spent all their waiver bucks... he won't be cheap in a week or two.

I picked him up (wr6 on my bench) but dont expect much. A Wr coming off that injury with metal plate and screws still in his hand and his hand still in a wrap. not a good situation. A bad fall on that hand etc.

its awfully fast to recover from an achilles. it took over a year for elton brand.

eta, it seems brand came back in a similar time frame

Is it totally crazy to start him vs the phins? Brady did toss for 500 against them. You know Tebow's pro-florida crowd is gonna be cheering for Tebow. You know he's gonna wanna throw a few tds. Thomas is huge and will give the depleted phins secondary fits if he rally is healthier than he was last year.

:blackdot:

Rostered him, not starting until we see what the effect of the "Tebow thing" will be, as well as Bey-Bey's rust.

I'd rather have points on my bench than a zero in my line-up, so I'm proceeding with caution.

Matthew Stafford's own teammate called him a china doll. He seems OK this year
