DeMeco Ryans injuries revealed (1 Viewer)

Am I the only one that's thinking that Ryans may not be a great play tonight against the Broncos? The Donkeys aren't very good for LBs and Ryans is confident that he'll start but remains questionable on the injury report. He had a subpar game last weekend, so maybe this injury is more of an issue than he wants to admit.

Anyone else considering other options this weekend?

I have Karlos Dansby on standby, but yes I'm worried in a big playoff game. My other LBs are Ryans, Boley, and Harris.

I'm in the semi-finals, and I'm extremely worried. I think the short week makes Ryans an even riskier play. I'm going to roll with Patrick Willis instead. Don't want to take the chance of Ryans leaving the game early due to injury.

I too have Ryans tonight. Should I keep him in or should I start Brackett or Keiaho vs OAK instead?

This is a good point that I didn't think of. I think I'm going to go with Dansby instead. Any late news on Ryans status/readiness for tonight will be welcome.

I'm there with you, I am going with witherspoon at the moment. Then ryans will probably play and get a td of course....

From what Ive seen, he is NOT expected to MISS tonights game.

Also, if he's confident he'll start, and its gameday, shouldnt he?

Im wary as well, but I think if he plays he puts up normal DeMeco numbers.

I think what it comes down to is what kind of quality you have on the bench as an alternative to Ryans. My league scoring is 1 pt/tackle, 3 pts/int, 3 pts/sack, and 5 or 7 pts/td.I'm lucky enough to have another stud like Willis sitting on my bench, and when you factor in the short week, I think it's a no brainer for me to sit Ryans and start PW. Why would I want to take on the additional risk with DR?If you don't have another LB1 sitting on your bench, then it probably makes sense to play Ryans, and just hope he doesn't have to leave the game early with injury.

Ryans is ACTIVE.

There's nothing on the message boards, homer media sites -- on either side -- that suggests how healthy he may or may not be. I'm trying to get my radio link back, but haven't been able to yet. I'll post if I hear anything worthwhile.

Thank you Jene

I got nothing. :( <<< Going down with my captain at the helm tonight if that's how it goes. Not benching the #1 overall LB with an average-above average matchup. Here's hoping we're not looking at Antonio Pierce Part Deux. I'd guess that a knee bruise can be played with more easily than an ankle injury...right? :goodposting:

Much appreciated, Doc. Any late word, news, rumors, or hunches will be welcome. I'm very close to putting Ryans back in. He's been too good this year to bench, but last week's performance still scares me.

NFL Network just said: "Ryans is a game-time decision, but expected to play".. for what that's worth. He's my top LB (start 2), but in a "D" (start 3) spot on my roster... my other D options are: Vande Bosch, Kawika Mitchell, Brandon McGowan, or Justin Durant.

I'm with Jene. Gotta go with the studs who got you there if they are active. I try not to outthink myself at this point.

As a gut feeling I'd say look for his normal tackle numbers, but with the injury, he may not blitz as much so I wouldn't expect as many big plays. Nothing to back this up just thinking out loud.

I was worried about Tatupu against Philly a couple weeks back and sit him ... not making the same mistake twice

I want to go wit Ryans..but I also have Harris and Willis. so I am thinking the drop off wont be too bad.

I have the two playoff matchups where I have the same core of LB's (Ryans, Beason, and David Harris). Having to start one I split the difference and went with Harris in one league where I needed the steady production and Ryans in the other which I needed to make the more boom/bust type of play to get the W

Not to run it in, but glad I sat him for Kirk Morrison. I don't think there's anyway he has this poor of a game :boxing:

The Denver gameplan seemed to hinder his chances from what I saw. The injury may have been part of it, but he didn't seem to have as many chances to make plays. Cutler dropped back a lot, which played to the strengths of Mario. He just missed a sack which would've made his stats a bit better. Happens to the best of them.

It's definatley his injury. I thought I noticed it some last week, but wasn't sure, definatley did last night. He's simply not 100% with the knee. There's a reason Greenwood's numbers have been up the past 2 games, he's had some opportunities he prolly would not had if Ryans was healthy.

He'll get 10 days to rest it, maybe it will help. For me, I will more than likely look at other options if I advance.

Should be a nice play this week for those who sat him.

Not good news on Ryans, as the team has disclosed that Ryans is playing with a torn PCL and a sprained ankle. However, it removes all doubt regarding whether he's a trustworthy lineup option. Ryans himself says he isn't moving well. The Chronicle is speculating that the Texans could shut him down for the season.

Houston Chronicle

Ryans injured his right knee against Tampa Bay when he tore his posterior cruciate ligament.

He missed practice last week but started against Denver.

Dayne sprained his ankle three weeks ago and was unable to practice all of last week. He didn't start in the 31-13 victory over the Broncos, but ended up playing a critical role in the Dec. 13 game at Reliant Stadium.

Neither Ryans nor Dayne anticipates being sidelined for the next two games.

"I can't see that," said Ryans, who also has a sprained ankle. "This is what I enjoy doing.

"You'd have to cut my legs off to pull me off the field. I've been so blessed. I can't sit out a game. I enjoy it too much. I've never missed a game (at any level) because of injury. I'll be fine this week.

"I haven't been able to move like I want. But, being the quarterback of the defense, I can't let it slow me down. I've got to be out there."

I guess I'll have to look at the WW or perhaps put Briggs in. Although I hate starting both Urlacher and Briggs..hmm, decisions..decisions.

Wonder if Norton knows about this. He has Ryans projected with his normal stud stats.I am benching him. Can't afford another 3 tackle game out of him.
We get both Norton and Bramel's takes on this issue on tonight's IDP Roundtable.
Norton was still a little conflicted on Ryans. I've benched him in every league I've got another reasonable option. Norton may not drop him as far as I would, but I'd be surprised if he didn't drop him after the mid week injury reports. In general, John likes to keep things status quo with the early projections. They reflect what he believes to be the best matchups more than anything else. As the injury situations and lineup changes come more into focus by mid-late week, the tweaks start. In this case, I think the underlying message is that the matchup is favorable and the Houston LBs will do well. Had Ryans "just" had the knee bruise and ten days to recover, he's a solid play. We didn't learn the full diagnosis and player quotes until Tues afternoon. I'd expect to see Greenwood and Ryans flipped in the rankings soon.

as a texans homer and huge demeco fan it was a great season this year and i hate to bench him in my championship game.

I know what your sayin', but he clearly is not the DeMeco your use to. After watching him play last week, the decision for me is easy, I'm sitting him , however I'm pretty deep at LB. Good Luck!

I'd do the same...it's hard to play on one leg. It's a shame too because Ryans is a beast.

yup out with demeco in with durant.

Dec 20 Ryans (knee) participated in Thursday's practice, the Texans' official site reports.

Recommendation: Ryans, who was named to the Pro Bowl earlier this week, is expected to play this week against Indianapolis.
