Democratic Debates (5 Viewers)

Look, not only did he double down on Medicare for All, he announced that he’s going to end fracking. There goes Pennsylvania.

Bernie. can’t. win.
If you ask any given political scientist or election expert about which candidates are and aren’t electable, they’ll give you the same answer: we don’t know. I think it’s foolish to speak so confidently about something we know so little about.

Bernie has no upper teeth as far as I could tell, he constantly thrusts his underbite to show his defiance of oligarchs.  He hates him some oligarchs.

Bloomberg, just comically bad.  Loved when he forgot he was now a democrat and blamed democrats, like Sanders, for passing some bills.

Warren, did fine but she grabbed only low hanging fruit.  Low hanging fruit is what we call the 78 year old apricots on Bloomberg.

Biden, the bad face lift will not lift him in the polls.

Klobuchar, you are no Mayor Pete.

Mayor Pete, slow, steady, Presidential.

“MSNBC Breaking News- Democrats hit Trump and trade tough shots in debate tonight.”  The only thing they said about Trump is we have to beat Trump.

Amy concerned about the personal attacks tonight “It wasn’t the best night for the Democrats tonight”. Not sure she lasts much longer if this is all about having a group hug during the debates.
She's the most likely to be out before Super Tuesday.  If I'm Bloomberg I may pull a Ross Perot here and just quit before I really start.

Not to mention Bloomberg went right for the jugular with Bernie and called him a communist. I think he did great damage to Bernie tonight.

@MMFlint

Did Elizabeth Warren just end Bloomberg’s campaign? How many NDAs did Bloomberg force women to sign. She kept asking. He wouldn’t answer. Put a fork in him.

If Bloomberg's NDAs are just about some off color jokes, seems a no brainer to release the NDAs on his end
Regardless of what the NDAs are about, he shouldn’t have said it was just about some jokes they didn’t like. 10 years ago that might have been “ok”, but not now.

I like him.

But you guys are right. I don’t know for sure. It’s just my opinion, a negative one and I’d love to be wrong.
Hearten up. While moderates trail Sanders by at least 18 points in California, Bloomberg is running ahead in the South with its Super Tuesday states.

Trump is going to get re-elected.  We may get some entertainment in the meantime though.

Mayor Pete may be the best hope of everyone on that stage but being gay is going to be major baggage in the general.

Sanders is going to get the nom anyway and his ticket is a loser vs Trump
Bingo I don’t disagree with a single word of this.

The key is if they want to stop Bernie they better get multiple candidates above 15% in California.  That poll is quite dangerous for them given the size of the delegate pool.

Yeah. I haven't paid too much attention to the horse race aspect of the primary, but 15% seems to be the threshold.

It was a huge relief when Warren slaughtered Bloomberg on the NDA stuff.  I knew they'd go after him somewhat but she brought the whole Dexter murder kit tonight.  That needed to happen.  Thanks Warren!

Sanders stayed on message and held up pretty well despite some underhanded attacks.  Pete deployed the 'bernie bro' line, the 'support an actual Democrat' line, the 'status quo or revolution' line.  He's clearly punching left- you can say it's about trying to "win" but it's a remarkably different posture than the stuff he was originally campaigning on.  It's like he's an entirely different person now.  Progressives were right to request a refund.  I may have to go back and count but I'm pretty sure that at least 2/3 of the time he said "that's not true" it actually was.

I actually cringed when Sanders started talking about Russian bots dividing the Democratic Party.  Just a really sad line to take, I hope that's just his boomer self talking and not advising by his campaign.  He usually displays exceptional judgment when pivoting back to his bread & butter campaign issues that was just so disappointing to watch.

I really don't get the Klobuchar love at all.  At least not for the sensible midwesterner routine.  I want to see the real one come out, you know she was ready to throw a chair at Buttigieg.

Most of the others were just throwing up hail marys and going for broke.  It almost seems too good to be true for Sanders.  The party can't win without his supporters, and I don't think they'll have the numbers to deny him at the convention without shattering the party itself.  The party is in complete desperation mode, and it doesn't look like there's anything they can do about it.

Was wild when the whole field (except for Sanders) said they'd let "the process" decide- the rigged superdelegate system- over the nomination going to the candidate with the most popular support.  Fun debate, far and away the best one yet.

Didn't watch the debate, but did Bloomberg actually call Sanders a Communist?

Update:  Ok, just watched a video.  That was a fantastic shot at Bernie.  Bloomberg is right.  Sanders is trying to cover it up by calling it the made up term "Democratic Socialism".  He may call it that now to fool the rubes, but if he gets in you watch how Sanders changes his spots.  Sanders and those like him (AOC, Talib, etc...) are a danger to Capitalism and everything America stands for.

Bloomberg just went up a notch in my book on that alone.  Glad someone finally had the balls to call it out to Sander's face.  The real Democrats need to be more vocal on this against Sanders and not be afraid to call a spade a spade.

After reading the rounds this morning I fully admit I am in the minority with this hot take but I think Bloomberg won last night.  If you look past his initial nervousness his answers were more rational and more thought out then the others.  He should have been better prepared for the NDA question but there isnt much he can do about that.  Its out of his hands.

Good God I hate warren and Amy K with a passion.  Both are horrible.  I thought Mayor Pete destroyed amy at every turn.

I was amazed at how unprepared Bloomberg was.  He should have anticipated the NDA and dealt with it quickly bit he looked like he got caught off guard and he stammered and hemmed and hawed.  The line "none were about me except for a joke they didn't like" was cringe-worthy.  He recovered later, especially when calling out Sanders several times, but he came off as a Republican trying to buy into the Democratic party.

Warren had some good moments, especially when attacking Bloomberg, but she came off to me as being shrill, desperate and lacking substance.

Sanders had a strong showing.  His message comes through loud and clear and he has not wavered.  I just don't think you can win a national presidential election in America as a self-described socialist.

Biden didn't hurt himself which is a major accomplishment for him but he seems old, not entirely sure of the facts and living on past accomplishments.   He may still be the best shot to beat Trump though.

Buttigieg:  Again shows he is the one candidate that can keep his cool while under attack and challenge the opposition.  He gives well thought out answers and delivers in a way that seeks unity and compromise.  He comes off as being green though and I think a married gay man is just not going to win.  Sad but I fear it is the truth.   Still I would love to see him in debates with Trump because I think the contrast is striking and obvious to even Trump supporters.

Klobuchar:  Completely lost her cool on several occasions and handled the Mexican president debacle poorly.  As a moderate woman with years of experience she's got some things going for her but she didn't do well last night and I doubt she can survive Super Tuesday.

Bottom line:   I see 4 more years of a Donald Trump presidency.

Biden would have been better served approaching this whole thing with a "been there, done that, can do it again" attitude, while staying calm and collected like Pete. This tough guy that can take on Trump routine is so phony. Stop yelling old man.

without a doubt.  Trump will eviscerate everyone on that stage tonight with maybe, maybe the exception being Pete.

On a side note, this style of debate is so out dated its ridiculous.  Having 30 seconds or whatever to try and answer a important question while others are yelling and raising their hands is just stupid.  They need to do some long form sit down style podcast where they can articulate their points and not try and have some viral soundbite.

Absolutely.  I would have preferred them asking a question and then let each candidate have 90 seconds to respond without interruption.  I was getting pissed at Warren speaking over every one and raising her hand before the questions were even asked.,

Warren was/is the worst

I am pretty sure Joe Rogan has an open invite to all of the candidates if they want to sit down and talk to him.  Obviously Bernie, Yang and Tulsi did it.  Whether it helped or hurt I dont know but its nice to hear just a conversation of what they believe and think.  The constant yelling and trying to pull a "gotcha" is nauseating

They kind of do that with the town hall meetings. Problem is not nearly as many people want to watch those.

If you were a DNC insider/influencer and had one choice, who would you be funneling support to right now?
I'd be waiting until March 4th to see where things stand.  Does Biden rally?  Does Warren capitalize on her strong showing?  Does Bernie come out with 50% of the delegates on Super Tuesday?  Is Bloomberg still breathing?  etc.  Things will be a lot clearer in two weeks.
