Derek Andersen (1 Viewer)

Do you guys think Derek Andersen can be a long term starter in the NFL? I wonder if we have another Brees/Rivers situation shaping up in Cleveland with Andersen and Brady Quinn.

who knows what his future holds, but he does have some great weapons at his disposal.

braylon and the sarge are great and he's got really tall white guy to go to now and then.

He seems to playing well enough to....a) be a respectable starter on your fantasy team, and b) hold off Brady Quinn for the rest of the year.

I didnt believe in him because he couldnt distance himself from Charlie Frye in the preseason, but he has been decreasing mistakes and the number of "WTF?" throws each week, and he clearly has the courage and positive thinking to hang in and make plays. His arm has never been an issue and he's got the ideal size for an NFL QB. He's starting to make a believer out of me.

I think Andersen has some long term value. He probably loses starts later in the season if Cleveland falls out of the playoffs and they want to look at Quinn but he will at some point in his career probably get a shot with another team and he looks OK.

I don't know about your scoring systems but he is the number 3 in our league @ the QB position. H### Yeah he is a solid starter. Shoot, if Carson can sit on his can the whole freshman season, why can't Quinn? I just scooped up D.A. this last week and I'm never looking back.

He has some long term value for someone. I still think that once the playoffs are out of reach for Cleveland you're going to see Quinn in there in some form. Maybe play a series or 2 to start. But they'll want to see what they have in him.

Therein lies the rub. I don't think the playoffs will ever be out of reach for the Browns this year. Their remaining opponents? Rams, Seahawks, Pitt (loss), Ravens (loss), Texans, Cardinals, Jets, Buffalo, Cincinnati, 49ers. I mean there are some DOG BUTT teams left on the Browns schedule. Don't be a bit surprised if the Browns never fall more than a game below .500 all year. I really think the only way Quinn sees the light of day in '07 is if Anderson is injured.

Brees >>>>>>> Anderson. But Anderson is parlaying these games into a nice A.J. Feeley-esque paycheck.
 he'll likely want too much money to come back to Cleveland as a backup, and some team with a terrible line will overpay him and be dissapointed.he's just too inconsistent, even with basic mechanics, that i don't see him as a long term starter. excellent backup though.the offensive line (as well as the two freaks they have at wr and te) should be getting more credit for his sucess than they are.

Off the top of my head I think of teams like Minnesota, Carolina, Baltimore, Kansas City, and potentially Green Bay post-Favre that would be looking to grab Andersen assuming he doesn't want to play inevitable 2nd fiddle to Quinn. He's certainly played well...was the guy everyone thought looked best in pre-season, and going back a year he was making people question if Frye should be in there.

So yes, I'd say Andersen is playing his way into a staring gig or at the very least, a chance to 'win' a starting gig.

When does Anderson walk?

People are beginning to compare this to Brees/Rivers. If Anderson doesn't sign long term understanding he could be the backup for years to come, then the Browns are going to try to get something for him, which would be a different ending to the story. The Browns seem to be one of the few teams that get something for a player they don't want that would likely be let go (see Suggs for a few days, Frye, Big Money Warren, Dilfer, etc).

maybe someone can look it up, but i think he's a RFA at the end of this year, so they'll probably make him an offer that they will get some compensation if someone outbids their offer.

Brees >>>>>>> Anderson.
Really? Bree's last two seasons before Rivers came on board:2003 San Diego Chargers 2,108yds 11td 15int 67.5 rating 2002 San Diego Chargers 3,284yds 17td 16int 76.9 rating Andersons last 2 years:2007 Cleveland Browns 1,496yds 14tds 8int 88.9 rating (so far)2006 Cleveland Browns 793yds 5tds 8int 63.1 ratingI know Brees is what he is, but Anderson is looking better so far this season than Brees did before he "turned it on". Anderson is only 24 years old and has some great weapons at his disposal. Plus he has 3 times the arm strength that Brees does and thats pretty important. And I'm not saying that Anderson is going to turn into the next "stud" QB, but you cannot say Brees >>>>>>> Anderson. At least not yet.

think baltimore is kicking themselves for chancing he'd fall thru waivers back to them 2years ago?

Derek has protype measurables and constantly looks downfield and is cutting down on his mistakes. not bad attributes. he seems to have the same mentality of kerry collins-drew bledsoe with better wheels and he gets rid of the ball before getting sacked in record fashion. his biggest obstacle(which is HUGE) seems to be accuracy or consistentcy on intermediate throws. this is where braylon/winslow jr/joe J seem to really really help him out with there abilities to just about catch anything within 10feet with there size and or athleticism. braylon on more than several occasions has literally done about 75% of the work on the big plays, as derek has just thrown the ball in the vicinity and braylon makes miraculous receptions. winslow doesn't make such the highlight reel catches but he is almost constantly open.

Ding, ding, ding. That's the point. Cleveland's by no means a great team, but you look at what they have left, and it's hard to see them falling out quickly. @St. Louis Seattle@Pittsburgh@BaltimoreHoustonArizona@N.Y. JetsBuffalo@CincinnatiSan Franciscois the remaning schedule. Outside of @Pittsburgh, every one of those games are certainly winnable. As long as they split 2-2 over the next four, Anderson will stay the guy, because things line up right for that team after the next four. If Brady Quinn sees playing time (assuming Anderson doesn't get hurt), it'll be Week 16, or Week 17 tops. The Browns would have to just fall apart to fall out of this race, and as long as you're in the race and Anderson is doing a good job, why worry about it now.
