Derrick Mason. (1 Viewer)

Going into this season, I was picking up Derrick Mason as a "steal" in the 9th or 10th round in a lot of my leagues. It appeared that even with Boldin, he should be in line to have a good season. Through the first two weeks, he has barely put up any catches...the lone saving grace has been a touchdown last week.

Is he worth holding on to, or is he simply not a viable option in Baltimore any longer? Do any of the homers from Baltimore have any insight?

Mason is 3rd on the team in targets behind Boldin & Heap. Baltimore has played two tough defenses so far, and Flacco's numbers have reflected that. Up until this season, Mason's been the #1 WR; now he's #2, and isn't seeing as many looks. While that may benefit him by not having to face the other team's #1 DB, the looks aren't there right now. I have him in my PPR league and plan on keeping him rostered, because I think Flacco's numbers will rise, but won't start him anytime soon unless I become plagued by injury or bye weeks. He should post better numbers than he has so far, as should the rest of the offense, but I don't see him being a full-time starter unless you're in a really deep league.

Revis shadowed Mason all over the field in game 1.

Mason will disapoint some owners this year, but I still expect WR3 numbers going forward.

He was covered by Revis in week 1 and the Bengals have a very good secondary as well.

:goodposting: I'd give him him a few more weeks before throwing in the towel.

I'm currently throwing him in as part of a package deal trade, but no one really seems that interested in adding him. I think his value is just about in the toilet right now, and I don't really see it improving. Even if he has a big game here and there, I just don't see a situation where is isa trustworthy start. Maybe he would be ok as a bye week fill-in.

What's going on is that he is very old and he is no longer the #1 WR on the team. I hope you considered these 2 critical factors before spending a 9th round pick on him.

boldin's targets to this point is 28, which is just about a third more than mason, 19. (Heap has 22). That said, after Boldin's performance last week, maybe defenses choose double Boldin. any extra opps project to get split between heap and mason.

mason is on the WW in my 14 team league, which tells me pretty much what I need to know, but I'm thinking Mason will be the hot pickup sooner than later.

He's done. I mean he might have a game or two in him but the guy's career hit that point that we need to say thanks for the memories. It didn't get much pub but Mark Clayton beat him out in camp and was ahead of him for a good while. Younger Mason was wayyy better than that.

Housh signing raised an eyebrow here as well.

I'd trade him while I can if I had him
