I wouldn't be surprised as I saw him on crutches on sidelines looking pretty immobile.Ward = the next Chrissy Brown. Talented but not built to take the punishment of a featured back.waiting to see this confirmed by another source but the guy on wfan sounded very matter of factly....

CHICAGO -- When it comes to injuries, Derrick Ward just can't seem to catch a break. Well, now he really has one.
The Giants' fourth-year running back suffered a fractured left fibula late in yesterday's 21-16 victory against the Bears. It came on his 24th and final carry of the day, when he picked up the last of his career-high 154 rushing yards.
Ward said the injury wasn't as serious as the one suffered two weeks ago by linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka, who needed surgery to repair a broken fibula.
"It's just a line," said Ward, referring to the way the fracture looked on the X-ray.
Ward said he'll undergo further tests today, including MRI and CT scans. Those exams will determine if he'll be out for the season or if the Giants will be able to keep him on their active roster.
"Maybe I can pull a T.O.," said Ward, referring to wide receiver Terrell Owens, who rehabbed a fractured fibula suffered on Dec. 19, 2004, and returned to catch nine passes for the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX. "But we have a bunch of running backs. Brandon Jacobs will be back this week (from a hamstring injury), Reuben Droughns has proven himself and Ahmad (Bradshaw) has proven himself."
But so has Ward, who has 602 yards on 125 carries this season. And that will make him an attractive free agent for other teams this off-season. So there's a chance he's played his last game with the Giants, who signed him off the Jets' practice squad in 2004.
For now, Ward will focus on getting and staying healthy. That's been an issue for his entire career, as he's battled hamstring, groin, ankle and foot injuries that have limited him to only 16 of a possible 28 games over the past two seasons.
But here's the amazing part: Yesterday, he ran for the most yards by a Giant this season at less than full strength after battling back from a groin injury that kept him out for more than a month.
"I'd say I was only 70 percent," Ward said before grabbing his crutches and hobbling to the bus.
QB Eli Manning has led the Giants to 12 fourth-quarter comebacks that tied a game or took a lead in his 53 NFL starts, including the playoff game against the Eagles last year, when he connected with Plaxico Burress to tie a game the Giants eventually lost. Of those 12 games, the Giants have won seven.
WR David Tyree had 19 receptions for 197 yards and two TDs last season, but remained buried on the depth chart for much of this season. Yesterday, after WR Sinorice Moss appeared to run the wrong route on one play, Tyree was back on the field as the Giants' third receiver.
And Tyree delivered with two catches for 32 yards on the game-winning drive. The bigger of the two receptions was a 24-yard catch-and-run past a sliding Bears CB Trumaine McBride. Manning scrambled to his right and found an open Tyree.
"I was just fortunate enough to be there and when I turned around there was some green grass in front of me," Tyree said.
Perhaps there will be some more playing time ahead of him now.

He'd better get a personal trainer and a personal nutritionist. IIRC he returned from "a knee" from last year (right?) to hurt his groin, ankle, foot, hamstring, and now fibula. What else is there from his waist down? Geesh.
I wonder what all this will cost him in free agency now.
I feel bad for Ward.
He seems like such a nice guy too. I remember him getting cut from the Jets, joining the Giants and some hack nagging him with Qs to get something negative said about the Jets and all he would say is nice things about them like "thank you for the opportunity".
His great attitude and work ethic (besides stats) would have got him a nice contract and made most teams want to sign him. Now it'll be who wants to take on an injury prone guy...grrr

Unless he somehow sees the field and does great, Moss is gone IMO. I can't imagine they have too much more patience in seeing production from him.The Bears secondary didn't cover Tyree either time. I could see once as he's not too too often used as a WR but he's been OK when given a chance and it's the last drive. The 2nd time is just inexcusable. I'd bet there are some angry angry Bears fans this morning.

This is the type of guy who can pull a Priest Holmes (even though Ward was drafted). Similar type player & nobody really knows how good he can be. I like him a lot. Some team might get one heck of a steal (if he can stay healthy). If he ends up in a favorable situation, look out.

Ward has been a great find for the Giants but this team is not going to the Super Bowl. Must have been the drugs making him delusional.

Thanks doctor...If you managed to read the posts in this thread there were already two instances pointed out of players who came back from this injury in the same season. I did, too, once. It all depends on the severity.
