Derrik Johnson or Odell Thruman (1 Viewer)

after seeing thurman in game action this weekend, i moved him ahead of thomas davis as favorite to win DROY... & since it is different question, yes... also to have biggest single impact of a defensive rookie on the IDP landscape this season. if healthy, i'll go out on a limb & suggest that his athleticism relative to other elite LBs i have seen with comparable skill set could allow him to crack into top 10 LBs, maybe even top 5. imo, he will be that good (but realize this a very optimistic call & may not be shared by many others). DJ i see having similar season to pisa tinoisamoa in 2003 rookie season... maybe somewhere in mid-thirties, with upside in the twenties. i don't see him getting 9 FFs with the bolo punch (to be renamed the tomahawk chop... think of the marketing synergy :) ) in the big leagues... but he is an awesome playmaker... like DJ williams, who we wish had stayed at WLB (unless an ian gold owner)... he may make his presence felt more in actual football terms through his freakish coverage & blitz skills for a LB... but as a consequence, his tackle numbers may be muted, diminishing his value in fantasy terms.

I wasn't sure who would make the bigger impact so I played it safe and drafted both in my IDP DYnasty League, passing up Thomas Davis in the process.

Id say Thurman for sure. If DJ were playing a more fantasy-friendly position such as WLB or MLB, I would have to reconsider.

Johnson and Thurman are very close IMO. Because Thurman is a MLB, I would probably give him the fantasy bump but it wouldnt surprise me to see both of these guys in the top 20 at LB this season.

After Thurman's injury, I'd say Thomas. :D
What injury?FF - probably Thurman

NFL - DJ is going to be among the best SLBs in the game, even as a rookie. And he'll help his defense more than Thurman will.

Derrick Johnson might be the better talent physically but Odell Thurman is in an excellent spot and he'd be my pick to be right at the top of the rookie IDP class along with Thomas Jones.Count me as one of the few who didn't scoff when the Seahawks "reached" to take Lofa Tatupu in the 2nd round. I had him ranked significantly higher than any of the web NFL draft sites.
