Deuce says he'll be back in '08 (1 Viewer)

Never say "never". Let's suppose the foo is on the other shoot next year and Reggie Bush gets knocked out due to some sort of injury leaving DM to carry the full (most of) load in Norlens. I will give a guy like him enough credit that he COULD fight back from this and COULD again be a featured back and COULD put up some studly stats. After all, he's not chopped liver, He IS STILL Duece McCallister...and most importantly, stuff happens.

sorry, but he's never been McCallister, its McAllister.

Useful info KH. :excited:When Deuce pushed back his signing bonus I wasn't sure which way to read that.
Contract2008: $3.6 million (+ $1 million roster bonus due 4/15)Sorry; hes not even going to see half of this.
There are good guys in the NFL that will restructure to finish out there career on the team that drafted him. Duece is loved in New Orleans and he is so close to home. If he is cut he will not get close to this with K. Jones and SA on the market. He's going to restructure and play when healthy.

ATC1, what's the word down there on Pierre Thomas' PT this year? Are they thinking of giving him a bigger role even if Deuce is healthy?

I'm sure Deuce will be willing to redo it; but my bet is he won't even be given that chance. My bet is Deuce gets cut before the season. Why bring back Stecker if you have Reggie / Deuce / Thomas

IMO, P. Thomas should get more PT this year. The kid looks very good when he is in the game. They may not give him a full load to make him a fantasy option this year, but he is an interesting prospect in dynasty leagues. If Duece does not have it any more, I think he will still stay on the team another year or two to mentor. He is great for Saints promotions and is really involved in the community. If Duece can not get it done this year, Aarron Stecker re-signed for one more year, and there will be a split much like last year with Thomas starting to get more PT. There is talk on some boards of the Saints possibly taking Mendenhall, which I think is a mistake. There is too many glaring needs on defense. Mendenhall was actually behind P. Thomas at ILL.

Duece is a Sean Payton type of player. If he willing to redo's his contract he will stay in New Orleans. Stecker signed 1 year at one million as another S. Payton player, so cutting Duece and no stecker next year means they are going to be in great need at RB. I'd say the only way Duece gets cut is if Payton is in love with Mendenhall so much to take him in the draft. Which could be a possibility, but once again, I would think if Duece would redo his contract he would, and the Saints would cut Stecker. Duece would not get much action in the FA, but could be a huge benefit to the Saints.

anyone want to sig bet that Deuce is not cut / released from NO before the season starts.... because there is not a doubt in my mind that hes gone.

I don't think you'll find any takers. The NFL is a business, first and foremost, so there are no absolute guarantees. Deuce's injury puts him at risk. The front office is pragmatic enough to cut/release him if he's unable to perform. You can't really be sentimental when it comes to the business side of the game. Yes, Deuce is a fan favorite but then so was Joe Horn. It will come down to whether or not Deuce is effective, pure and simple. Not many people are convinced that Reggie can carry the load. Pierre Thomas looks to have potential. Stecker is versatile and something of an insurance policy. I don't buy the Mendenhall rumors at all.

That was my point to the challenge... people come in here... sounding like they "know." But no one wants to put up.And when the player has too come out and resure thats hes coming back.. thats a major redflag that theres trouble.

This is a message board. I stated what I thought, and where I would lean. This is a bussiness like Saintfool said, so I could see plenty of ways that would make sense to cut Deuce. It is here on the board if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But I'm not going to make a bet with someone that has no input other than, "He won't" or his salary that he will make if he doesn't restructure. Besides he has already agreed not to collect on the bonus you stated on the 15th. He has also not asked to be release yet because of it. Makes me think he would like to stay here.Tell me the name of a player that has not said they will make a come back? He said he on schedule to be ready for training camp that's all I got from that interview, and that's all that can be said right now.

Deuce McAllister said he and the Saints both came away with some protection after he agreed to restructure part of his salary and bonus payments into incentive clauses for the 2008 season.

The Saints are protected from paying their veteran tailback's full salary if he is unable to return to peak form after surgeries on both of his knees last September.

And McAllister has a little more long-term job security. The Saints will now be less likely to cut him, even if he is limited by the injury during training camp.

"I don't think there was ever any doubt of me getting a shot (to come back from the injury)," McAllister said. "I think it was more so working to figure out how we can both be protected in this thing. Because I plan to be here for more than just this year. I've still got a few good years left in me."

McAllister, 29, is signed through the 2012 season. He was scheduled to earn $3.6 million in salaries this season, plus $1.1 million in bonuses.

He didn't go into specific detail about the restructured contract arrangement. But he did acknowledge that the Saints paid him "a portion" of the $1 million roster bonus he was due by April 15. He also said if he plays at his usual level, "then the salary will pretty much be the same."

McAllister said the contract talks never got bitter or contentious.

"In my instance, I know New Orleans has treated me kindly, and I think it goes vice versa," he said. "So I think it was probably in my best interest as well as the teams' best interest that we just try to see if we can get something worked out."

Deuce McAllister took a $2.2 million cut in pay to stay with New Orleans.

He'll make $2.4 million if he's on the Week 1 roster and possibly another $1 million through incentives. McAllister also restructured his contract for the 2009 season. He now has a $2 million roster bonus due next offseason, forcing the Saints to make a decision on him again in 2009.

So I take it that the 1M Roster Bonus got pushed backed around June of July... and his Base is 1.2M. Still seems like a lot for a guy who has torn both Knees in 3 yrs... but its doable. Deuce is doing what ever he can to keep a job.... if he can make it to Training Camp 100%... he'll be in NO for 1 more yr. If he can't get back to full health, the can easily cut him. I say his chances of being on week 1 roster is 50/50.

So now you've gone from 0 % chance of Deuce being on the roster on opening day to 50/50 chance.I love how guys come here saying like 'they know'.

I love the way Deuce and the team talk about each other. I wish other teams and players had so much respect and worked together to iron on contracts. The advisarial shlt gets very old.

please change forcing to allowing. you see this IS a case of the player wanting to stay with the team and the team working with the player. These two sides want to continue their relationship.

Actually I think it's more of a case of the player and the team buying more time to see how he progresses. No need in forcing a decision now when we have 4+ months until the season starts. I'm sure a healthy Deuce is wanted by the Saints. However, if he struggles he's out the door.

Saints have the cap to allow them to wait a bit longer then the start of the season if need be. The great thing about the situation is they retained Stecker and have P. Thomas and Bush. They don't need Duece, but if he comes back healthy he will be well worth the money.
