Developmental Draft (1 Viewer)

In a league I am in, we just held our developmental draft. This is a draft where we draft a college player and keep that player until they make it to the NFL. Of course, the picks/players can be traded like any others. If you have more than one college player, the extras count against your roster limit. These playersmust be drat eligible the next year, meaning seniors, juniors, or redshirt sophomores. I thought some may be interested in seeing this.

Here is the draft:

1. Darren McFadden

2. Steve Slaton

3. Ray Rice

4. Jonathan Stewart

5. Felix Jones

6. Mario Manningham

7. James Davis

8. Jamaal Charles

9. PJ Hill

10. Ryan Torain

11. Mike Hart

12. DeSean Jackson

13. Early Doucet

14. Tashard Choice

The top four looks about right, though I think Rice has a chance to be a better pro than McFadden and Slaton. Stewart could be the second back taken in the NFL draft given his size and athletic ability. Jackson and Doucet were steals here. Jackson will probably be a top 10 NFL pick next year. He should've been the 5th-6th player off the board. Mike Hart = :excited:

Good, Jackson was my pick! :goodposting: I agree that the top 4 were the right picks, although maybe not in the order I would put them.

Thanks for this post. Were there any bigname players that carried over from your last years development draft? Also how do u value you're developmental picks compared to a regular '08 first or '09 first? Worth way more, or about equal?(i recently joined a league with the same format (bb2) so i'm curious as how someone with experience in BB1 values his picks)

Normally, there are some college players carried over, but this time there were none. last year's developmental draft was pretty weak considering that many of the big names were already taken. Everyone was available this time.I can not speak for the league as a whole, but I think most of the owners value the developmental picks as high or higher than a 1st round pick in our rookie draft. I love being able to get a college payer early, but it does greatly dilute the field for our rookie draft. The teams that have high rookie picks can usually get a very good prospect that had been overlooked in the previous college draft. The 1.01 rookie pick last year was Addai. This year it was Brandon Jackson. By the time I picked at 1.12 of our rookie draft, I was not left with much. I chose Jason Hill. You can basically add a round onto each rookie pick when you evaluate them. A 2nd rounder in this league and BB2 is really equal to a 3rd rounder. I would much rather have a developmental pick than a 1st round rookie pick in general.

Very true! This was a tough call for me. It seems that in our past drafts, many took a chance on a RB while passing more of a "sure thing" at QB and WR. There were Rbs I considered, but decided to lock up who I thought was the #1 WR in next year's draft.

I was also part of this draft, took Doucet with the 13th. Being a PPR league, where we can start 4 WRs and 2 RBs, the idea of locking up a safer WR than a gamble at RB made sense. Another contributing factor that led me to this pick was a wasted pick of Darby during last year's draft. I did hate leaving Ian Johnson, Tashard Choice and Allen Patrick out there however... This is a great concept and one of the parts of this league that I love.

Consider Patrick White QB WVU. He doesnt really project as a NFL QB, maybe not even WR though he is a complete stud on the field. Fast as all, great leader and amazing character. I think at this stage of the game he is a better QB prospect than Mike VIck was, though Im not sure anyone considers the Mike Vick experiment a success.

As usual, the value in this draft was in the elite talents who lack the elite national profile. Jonathan Stewart and Ray Rice will probably be top 5 picks in every rookie draft next year, but clearly didn't get the same respect as Slaton and McFadden (two guys who get a lot more love on the boards). And once again, Doucet was a nice value. He'll be a first round pick with a decent season and is probably a better prospect than most of the 2007 WRs.

I agree. If he had home run speed he'd be a top 25 pick next year. As it stands, he has a chance to be a very good NFL back.

Man, whoever got Colt Brennan with that last college pick

got some incredible value.

:)

offdee, if you can only hold 1 college player, why were so many chose? It seems that some owners have more than 1.

Only 14 were chosen, Jeter. Some draft day trades were madeso the picks are a bit jumbled.BTW, I picked Brennan with the 14th pick.I actually thought about Spiller with this pick, but I think Brennan will be a stellar NFL QB.

It's a great league. The one college player stash is a very cool option.

Will do jeter. I thought when I started up this league a couple years ago you were actually one that I sent feelers out to find out if interested in joining (maybe I'm thinking of somebody else).Anyways it is a cool league (Phenomz Dynasty) and definitely a different twist with the 1 college player option....have 14 excellent owners right now so not expecting to be any openings anytime soon, but I'll add you to the list of potential prospects if that time ever comes.Good luck this year!
