I read he is running, but not going to play this weekend, and only a maybe for next weekend. I assume this is to make sure he is near 100% for the opener. If so, whats his role going to be in the Dallas offense this year? Is he WR2? WR3? I think he has abilities to be their #1, even over Austin, but does anyone think that can happen this year? Or, is he more suited for a strong WR2 this year and potential thru the roof in the future?

Drafting Saturday, would like to pick him, but I obviously have some questions.

I read he wants to play, but they will be cautious and hold him out a bit longer. My gut is he will beat out R. Williams for the WR2 spot by the 3rd-4th game of the season. He'll be a nice complement to Austin. Being a rookie, there is always risk, though. If you can, I would draft him as a WR3 or WR4 and look for upside. Depending on your league mates, that may not be possible.

Not touching him in redrafts.

I think it's a slam dunk he starts the year as at best the #3 guy, and promotion depends not on him, but on Williams, and to a lesser extent, how the team is faring. I don't know if Roy has any pride left, but I'm quite certain he has talent. He has actually successfully produced in this league, and was as highly touted a prospect as Bryant not very long ago. He's turned into a head case and a slug, but maybe being pushed will force him to work and produce. I don't know, and I wouldn't want to bet on the outcome one way or another.

I think with Roy and Dez jockeying for position, Romo continues to build ever greater rapport with Austin and Witten, and they become the only targets on Dallas worth owning in any but the deepest imaginable leagues.

I think WR2 is too high for a FF team, but I am afraid to wait too long when WR3s start going. I will eventually need to replace R Moss in my keeper league and am looking for decent plays this year, but studs in 2-3 years. I think he is top 5 as far as future WRs.

thanks.

My opinion? He won't take Austin's spot this season and it will be at least 5-6 games in before he take's Roy's spot as the #2. That being said, he will be a player that you will want in your starting lineup in the middle and the end of the season. It just depends on how much you are willing to pay for that.

Dez is healing up quite well and ahead of schedule. He feels good enough to and wants to hit the practice field "very badly."However the coaches and training staff are holding him out as a precaution because they want him to be absolutely 100% for the opener. It's highly unlikely he'll even see the field for the Miami (final) preseaon game. It would be pointless due to the limited time the first team will even play anyway.Once the season gets underway, he'll see time as the WR3 with Austin in the slot. I strongly anticipate that by the time the Cowboys come out of their bye (Week 4) the expectations in the Cowboy camp will be that he'll be ready to supplant RW for the WR2 spot. If he performs at the level the Cowboys envision him to in September, he'll be starting in October.I don't often say this, but you can mark my words on that. All the more reason they want him 100% for the opener and in no way want to risk a setback. He's going to come out as advertised, I can assure you. This kid is truly "wicked" good, and most defenses won't know how to deal with him. He's the real deal, and will run away with rookie of the year. It won't even be close.

WR Dez Bryant runs routes, might play against Miami: 'I feel great'

12:37 AM CDT on Friday, August 27, 2010

SportsDayDFW.com

Dez Bryant showed some good signs at practice Thursday, running routes for the first time since he suffered a high-ankle sprain last month.

Before practice started, Bryant ran some routes for quarterback Stephen McGee under the watchful eye of wide receivers coach Ray Sherman.

"I'm excited," Bryant told the Cowboys' official site early Thursday. "I am ready for it. I know I can (cut on the ankle)."

But by the end of the session Bryant was jogging through the routes with Sherman going over the proper release techniques and footwork.

Full participation in practice could come as early as next week.

Bryant has been ruled out of this week's game with Houston and it's unlikely he'll play against Miami, even though he will lobby to do so if he's made progress.

"If I do good or great," Bryant said. "There's a possibility I might get a couple snaps in next week against Miami."

This fits the timetable that coach Wade Phillips has been told from the start. The rookie receiver should recover from his high ankle sprain in time to play against Washington to open the regular season on Sept. 12.

"I know for a fact that I'm going to be ready for Washington," Bryant said. "I know for a fact. I feel great, I feel fine. If you've been here, you've seen me run. I've been running; I've been doing a lot of good things. So I'll be ready."

Dez Bryant: I'll be back in action Thursday night

01:27 AM CDT on Monday, August 30, 2010

Todd Archer / Reporter

If Twitter is to be believed, then Dez Bryant will be playing against Miami.

Bryant (@DEZ_88) wrote on Twitter this evening: "Back in action Thursday night!!!!!"

After Saturday's 23-7 loss to Houston, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Bryant would be healthy enough to play in the preseason finale against the Dolphins at Cowboys Stadium and if the starters are to play that would only help Bryant's cause.

The plan was to keep Bryant out of the preseason action as he recovered from a high right ankle sprain suffered earlier in camp. In his first three years, Wade Phillips has not played his starters in the last preseason game, giving the work to backups and future cuts.

Yet with a poor showing against the Texans, Phillips and the coaching staff are wondering if they should give the regulars some more work before the Sept. 12 opener at Washington.

Bryant ran routes before Saturday's game, catching passes from Stephen McGee. He said everything went well in the pre-game workout and that he is not worried about soreness.

"Everybody liked what they've seen and we're just moving forward," Bryant said after Saturday's game.

Bryant has consistently said he would listen to whatever the training staff tells him.

"I'll get a little frustrated but then I'll look at the big picture and that's the Washington Redskins," Bryant said. "That's how I calm myself down."
